Mated To The Cruel Prince -
Chapter 278: Broken Alliance
Chapter 278: Broken Alliance
"Good morning..." Islinda hardly greeted after she stepped into the kitchen before three pairs of eyes shot in her direction causing her to stop short.
It was not uncommon for the Fae to stare, however, the ravenous curiosity in their eyes made Islinda shudder. Their scrutinizing eyes roved over their body as if peeling the clothing on her body and seeing beyond what was considered proper.
Islinda did not even realize when she crossed her arms against her chest, feeling self-conscious. She was still in that scanty nightgown and did not need to guess what the Faerie was looking for. Evidence of Aldric bedding her so they could confirm their gossip about the both of them.
It seems whether in the human realm or not, certain people do not mind their business. Islinda was just about to drop a cheeky comment when she felt movement behind her and turned slightly to see Rosalind come up beside her. Just the Fae she was looking for.
Rosalind ignored her and entered the kitchen with her arms on her waist, watching the three Fae servants who had momentarily halted their activities.
"None of you told me something was interesting to watch?" She queried them, standing akimbo.
"What?" One of them blurted out while the other two guilty dropped their gaze to the floor.
"If you had time to stare at people, you should have finished your assigned duties by now." Rosalind scolded them.
But one of them was bold enough to retort, "We didn’t even stare at her that much."
Rosalind scoffed, finding the Fae courageous to talk back to her. However, the smile on her face suddenly thinned and she turned deadly serious, "Get out."
Even Islinda’s head whipped up at that mighty command, looking at Rosalind in surprise. She knew Aurelia was the head of staff in the castle and did not really know Rosalind’s position on the hierarchy. Or was Rosalind taking advantage of the fact she was Aldric’s lover? She was on a power trip because she had Aldric.
"I said get out," She repeated the order when the Faeries looked hesitant to make a move.
Another said, "But Aurelia said -"
"Get out now!" Rosalind snapped at the Faerie who nearly jumped out of their skin but had received the message loud and clear.
All three of the Fae in one file dashed off, leaving Islinda and Rosalind all alone in the spacious kitchen.
"Now we can talk comfortably," Rosalind said, ensuring the door was locked properly and no Fae was lurking in the hallway.
"Wait a minute," It then hit Islinda, "You chased them on purpose so we could talk?"
"I did not buy us time, only to waste it on useless questions," Rosalind grabbed Islinda’s hand, grumbling as she pulled her along. Islinda did not protest either. She followed her obediently like a sheep, curious to see what she was up to.
They pulled her into the kitchen’s balcony and there checked if they had been followed one more time before facing her.
She gave her a long look, and Islinda stared back, "What?"
Rosalind snorted, "You seem like you hated my very existence when the idea to pull Aldric back to the palace failed. Now, you seem to be enjoying the fruit of my hard work." Her eyes roved down her body with the same burning inquisitivity the other Faerie had.
Islinda felt a little excited by what she perceived as jealousy coming from Rosalind. The Fae had been the one to suggest the idea and now, she felt insecure. What a joke. To be honest, she was tempted to rub the whole thing in Rosalind’s face.
Instead, Islinda straightened up, trying to match her height since the Fae was slightly taller than her. Her gracious build was a common trait of the Fae.
She accused her, "You would have let me die there, wouldn’t you?"
"Who knows? That seems like an effective way of getting rid of you without any hassle, don’t you think so?" Rosalind artfully evaded her question.
"But you didn’t die, did you?" Rosalind reached out and tugged her strap, saying under her breath, "Thanks to me, you enjoyed a passionate night with Aldric. Tell me how was it? It was amazing, right? After being pressed beneath him and spending the night in blissful pleasure, you suddenly don’t want to leave right?" She tried to elicit a response from her.
Islinda swat her hand on her face, "Save that jealousy for someone else. However, I’m not trying to explain myself to you, but to be on the safe side in case you let yourself get carried away with emotions. But I did not sleep with Aldric."
"You lie." Rosalind doubted her words.
"Nor am I entitled to give you the details of our night together. Whether you believe me or not, I don’t care, but I wouldn’t be sacrificing my body all to escape a deceitful Fae. I would do it because I want to. Or as a last resort. Not because you want me to. Do you get me? "
Rosalind frowned at her," I’m the one helping you and should have respect - "
"I’m the one doing you the favor here, Rosalind In case you haven’t noticed. Just as a little motivation and reward for our partnership, I’ll have you know that Aldric has offered me your position," Islinda announced and did not miss the way the blood drained from the Fae’s position.
"Y-you lie," She choked out.
Islinda gave a wry laugh, "For a Fae who Is unable to lie, you sure believe others are the worst. But don’t worry, I have no intent to take your spot. I did not come to this place to be someone’s courtesan. This is nothing but a reminder of what you stand to lose if you don’t successfully help me leave here alive, or in the worst scenario, our alliance is broken. "
While Rosalind was still trying to digest her words, Islinda closed the space between them. She said," So tell me, smart Fae, are you ready to hear about my alterations to our plan or you can kiss this alliance goodbye?"
