Chapter 318: Chapter 236: Mu Lin being put to use quickly (one more update) _1
This is Mo Yinfan’s office, currently in the midst of a "steel" triangle situation.
Mo Yinfan, busy as always, went right back to focusing on his work after chatting with Mu Lin.
As for Mo Qian, Mu Lin saw her standing surreptitiously in a corner of the room, hiding her presence, playing the part of a dedicated bodyguard.
In Mo Qian’s eyes, Mu Lin, the bodyguard, was wholly unqualified.
Why?
The coffee table was filled with fruits, snacks, and milk; Mo Qian thought that Mu Lin was not really here to be a bodyguard, but to sightsee.
Mu Lin stressed she never said she came here to act as a bodyguard, she was just here to complete her mission, it didn’t matter what roles she played.
Mu Lin knew that Mo Qian thoroughly disliked her because of the complications involving the aphrodisiac. Mu Lin wondered if anyone would believe her if she said it wasn’t intentional.
The answer was: Believe a fart!
"If you continue to gaze at me with such ’affection’, I might think you’ve fallen for me." Holding a warm cup of milk and taking a light sip, Mu Lin languidly stated. Her voice was soft, but she was sure Mo Qian could hear clearly.
"You’re delusional." Mo Qian coldly retorted, in four unequivocal words.
Mu Lin chuckled, "You’re angry out of embarrassment". She retorted back just as curtly with her own four words.
Did he think he could outsmart her in a debate?
Of course, she wouldn’t mind exchanging digs with him to kill time in this monotonous and dull environment; that would be a rather interesting experience.
Unfortunately, Mo Qian reverted to his previous silence after a brief snort, retreating back into the shadows.
Time passed quietly, and soon it was half-past ten in the morning. At this moment, the office door slowly opened once more.
Mo Yinfan’s work and rest hours were fixed: from nine in the morning till ten at night, with an hour and a half break at noon. Mu Lin didn’t understand what could possibly keep him so busy. But because of this, every day at ten-thirty, the assistant would conscientiously bring in a cup of coffee, as Mo Yinfan needed it to get through the next ninety minutes.
Even just the aroma of the coffee was enough to rejuvenate one’s spirit momentarily.
"Such a heavenly aroma." Taking a deep breath, Mu Lin appeared contentedly satisfied, earning a derisive stare from Mo Qian, "All you know is how to eat."
"Isn’t that exactly why we are alive, to eat? Or can you abstain from food?" Mu Lin stood up and slowly walked towards Mo Yinfan.
After the assistant set down the coffee and left, although she was curious about the beautiful woman in the room, she knew better than to act upon her curiosity. Not even a hint of guesswork was allowed.
It was the rule that allowed her to stay within the closest proximity.
However, it seems the assistant might have figured out a thing or two.
Sitting down in front of Mo Yinfan, Mu Lin leaned back slightly and said, "I have a question."
"Ask away." Mo Yinfan paused his work to listen to Mu Lin.
"Before I came here, Jing Chen mentioned that even when you guys are eating, you have to guard against poisoning. I just wonder how do you go about doing that? Do you have food tasters like in ancient times?" Mu Lin first thought of Mo Qian, who was always nearby.
"This is how we do it." And with that, a small white mouse literally appeared in front of Mu Lin.
"Poor little mouse," Mu Lin sighed suddenly, "wonder why humans always like to experiment on white mice and not black ones?"
Mo Qian: How would he know?
Ignoring Mu Lin, Mo Qian took out a spoon from somewhere, lightly extending it towards the coffee. Unfortunately, the spoon was promptly snatched away by Mu Lin before he could make contact.
"It’s silver." Mu Lin grinned, they had a plan B.
"What are you doing?" Mo Qian asked, frowning at Mu Lin.
"Don’t you know? Some poisons cannot be detected even by silver." Casually toying with the spoon in her hand, Mu Lin spoke nonchalantly.
"We don’t need your reminder for that." Mo Qian replied, "We have got it covered". If the spoon turned black, then the mouse didn’t have to try the food or drink. If the spoon didn’t change color, they would wait to see the mouse’s reaction after it finished eating.
