Chapter 291 Who is the Fish?

Chapter 291: Chapter 291 Who is the Fish?

In the early morning, Yayuka crawled out of bed with dark circles under her eyes. Although ever since she awakened her stand power, she seemed not to fear the cold anymore, she still struggled in the covers for a long time, only finally getting up when the second alarm went off.

Of course, the reason she could afford to be so lazy was mainly because today was Saturday.

"So why did you set two alarms if it’s Saturday?"

An inorganic voice suddenly sounded in her ear, making Yayuka jump. She then remembered she had a stand now and replied in a slightly forceful tone, "Aren’t you my stand? Shouldn’t you know that?"

"Of course I know you plan to go shopping with Rinko, but according to human habits, it should be common sense to start a conversation with a question that everyone knows and has no hidden meaning."

Feng Xue maintained a mechanically textured voice, giving an ice-cold feeling of a machine attempting to learn human thought processes. Yayuka found this especially unappealing and waved her hand forcefully, saying, "More importantly, did any other Kaidan appear last night?"

"No," Feng Xue shook his head and replied decisively. Yayuka did not doubt this and casually grabbed a biscuit from the bedside, stuffing it into her mouth.

As nutrients entered her body, Feng Xue began to run the cultivation technique without hesitation, driving inner qi to convert nutrients into embryonic buds of the Poisonous Insect Body. Although this behavior kept Yayuka constantly in a state of hunger, it was not entirely without benefit to her.

What Feng Xue was doing was equivalent to Yayuka passively enduring the constant internal energy consumption of a Martial Arts Grandmaster to temper her physique. That was why she didn’t find lifting things weighing tens of pounds heavy at all.

If this situation continued, it wouldn’t take long before Yayuka could become a weak girl with dual A in strength and speed relying solely on her physical body.

Though Yayuka had accepted that Feng Xue was her stand, due to some habits and psychological issues, she still couldn’t completely let go, always summoning Feng Xue and making him wait outside whenever she used the restroom or changed clothes.

...

After about half an hour of fussing, Yayuka, dressed in casual clothes, walked out of her home. As the door closed behind her, she immediately felt a twinge of regret because before her was a Kaidan wearing a large trench coat, donning a pale white bone mask, reeking of strong blood odor, and carrying a bloodstained broadsword on its back.

Although this guy looked more like a human than the Kaidan she had seen before, Yayuka could clearly feel that this guy was on a completely different level from those before.

"Not good, not good, not good... this guy is super dangerous!"

Seeing the opponent approaching, Yayuka immediately tried to look away, but her head was fixated again by the power of her stand.

"Don’t avert your gaze, and don’t use your awkward, perfunctory excuses. This guy is different from the others. Don’t think you can brush it off. Keep walking forward, do not stop, I will help you control your expression."

The inorganic voice floated in her heart. Yayuka didn’t know whether it was her stand’s power at work or if the voice indeed calmed her down, but she could clearly feel her originally violently beating heart starting to stabilize, and her breathing frequency gradually returning to normal, stepping forward as usual, indifferent to the bloody smell swirling around her nostrils.

That Kaidan, at least two meters tall, brushed past her, but at that instant, an overwhelming killing intent burst forth.

Yayuka didn’t know why she recognized it as killing intent, but undoubtedly, the kind of terror that seemed capable of ending her dozens of times in a moment almost suffocated her.

Yet, nothing happened. Her heart, her breath, everything seemed disconnected from her spirit, and even though she wanted to faint, her body continued stepping leisurely, even idly kicking a decently shaped pebble on the ground.

"Not her."

A soft murmur came from the masked Kaidan, and soon the pungent blood odor receded. What Yayuka didn’t know was that during the brief encounter, her "stand" had planted a seed on the Kaidan.

"It actually succeeded!" Feng Xue was quite astonished. In fact, he was ready to be discovered, but it was fortunate it didn’t happen.

"I wonder what kind of Kaidan that guy is..." Watching that roaring Kaidan Fire, Feng Xue thought this guy must at least be a captain in the Hundred Tales if not an officer.

As he pondered, Feng Xue suddenly heard Yayuka’s somewhat intense inner voice——

"Is it gone?"

"Hmm, it’s no longer in sight," Feng Xue sensed the Kaidan that had slipped into Yayuka’s house but did not tell her about it.

"Phew, saved. What was that earlier? It felt super dangerous!" Yayuka exhaled a long breath, leaning numbly against a wall, taking a few deep breaths before calming down. Feng Xue didn’t intend to respond but reminded instead:

"Don’t make such obvious movements. No one knows if another Kaidan will pop out at the next corner. It’s evident this area is getting special attention from Kaidan. It’s always better to be cautious."

"I-I understand."

Yayuka rubbed her eyes, wiping away a few tears, then pulled out her phone, uttering "Ah, no, I’m going to be late" before quickening her pace towards the commercial street.

Yayuka soon met up with Rinko and began a relatively pleasant shopping venture, while Feng Xue used the seeds sown the previous night to assess the current situation.

"The range covers roughly the entire East Tianzhu Town, focusing on residential buildings and apartments. Although the commercial street also has coverage, the density is much lower. Additionally, there have been several searches of Yayuka and her home, with monitors specifically assigned. Is it because they’ve already discovered that door?"

Tossing a seed toward a passing Kaidan, Feng Xue pondered. Today’s number of high-level Kaidan on the street was evidently more than yesterday. This might be because low-level Kaidan were shirking duty, but Feng Xue preferred another theory—

Their lockdown on the descent rules was about to fail.

Although the reason for this failure was unknown—whether it’s due to energy depletion or the conditions themselves, or due to something within Hundred Tales clashing with it—what was certain was that they wouldn’t maintain this state for long.

Nonetheless, Feng Xue didn’t plan to release its true form immediately. In the end, he found the current state quite suitable for gathering information. Aside from the limitations on movement and combat power being dependent on the host, there essentially were no drawbacks.

More importantly, he was curious why those Kaidan hadn’t captured Yayuka directly.

After all, that door, open yet inaccessible (because the other side was the Babylon Tower villa, prohibited without permission), was quite conspicuous to Kaidan; with enough effort, it shouldn’t be hard to discover he came from there.

Currently, the surveillance of Yayuka’s home by the Hundred Tales obviously noted this point.

Yet, they hadn’t detained Yayuka for questioning.

Did they think he left immediately upon exiting?

Or did they believe he wasn’t the type to care about ordinary people?

Or... were they simply baiting?

"Interesting..."
