Chapter 77: Blank Pages

Tristan woke up groaning softly. He smiled when he saw Aria sleeping in his arms; however, his smile quickly changed to a frown when he sensed magic in the air again.

When he first came home last night, he had perceived it, but Aria was not a witch, so where was the magic coming from?

Tristan got up from the bed and wore his trousers. He slowly left the room, making sure not to wake Aria.

Getting to the living room, the smell of magic became stronger, and Tristan found himself going to the kitchen.

He began opening all the cabinets in the kitchen, and as he attempted to open the last one, he realized that it was locked.

"Aperire," Tristan whispered, and this time the locked cabin opened.

"Tristan?" Aria softly called out. She had woken up when she heard a noise coming from the kitchen, and even though she felt sleepy, she still came downstairs to check; however, her sleepiness disappeared the moment she saw Tristan standing in the same spot she had kept the book.

There was a calm but unreadable expression on Tristan’s face as he collected the book. Why was this here? How did it even get here?

Aria’s eyes widened as she saw that nothing was happening to Tristan even after holding the book. Could it be that Tristan was the book master?

Tristan turned to Aria with the book in his hand. His gaze lingered on Aria for a few seconds before he said, "You look guilty."

"What?"

Tristan looked at the book and whispered, "Why do you even have this?"

Aria frowned when she heard that and asked, "You know what this book is, right?"

"It is a book that doesn’t concern you and one you should never have come across." Tristan, said with a frown.

"What does that mean?"

Tristan ignored her and walked out of the kitchen with the book in his hand.

Aria followed him, and when he entered his study, she entered as well. Her eyes widened as Tristan threw the book in the fireplace of his study.

"What are you doing!" Aria screamed and immediately rushed to the hearth, but Tristan held her back.

"What is wrong with you! Why are you overreacting over a book you know nothing about?" Tristan shouted.

Aria angrily pushed him away and shouted, "I was the one who found it at my grandmother’s house; you had no right to burn it. Why did you even do that!"

"Aria! Do you even know what that book is? The power that emits from it is capable of tainting even the purest soul. You should never have even touched it."

"You seem to know a lot about the book, but yet you refused to tell me anything."

"There is nothing to tell Aria. The book is gone, and it’s best you forget it ever existed."

Aria looked at him angrily, and the worst part is that she didn’t know why she was so angry. It was as if something was fueling her anger.

Tristan sighed and walked to her, cupping her face, but before he could say anything, Aria slapped his hand away and left.

After Aria left, Tristan walked towards the hearth and crouched down.

He watched the fire in silence for a few seconds before stretching forth his hand into the fire to retrieve the book.

There was not even a single scratch on the book, nor were there any burnt marks.

Tristan already knew that fire was not going to do any danger to it; after all, no one has tried ways of getting rid of this book more than him.

He opened the book, and just like before, the pages were blank, hiding its content for only his master’s eyes to see.

Even though he was the one that wrote the book, Tristan couldn’t remember a single thing that was written on it.

Five hundred years ago, when he defeated the Cadian, he had also drained the beast of his blood, unintentionally absorbing his dark powers. It was under the influence of this power that he had written a book, not knowing that he had brought a catastrophe into the world.

He has heard people looking for it, but he could never understand why, because even if they found the book, they would never be able to use it. He found it funny that supernatural creatures are looking for a book because of the fact that it had once wiped out an entire village, years ago.

If only they knew what truly happened, then they would realize that they were all wasting their time. With each lifetime, he had heard different stories about the book, but only he knows the true story of the book in his hands.

The book was like a child that hates disturbance when sleeping, and that is why when a witch tried to force it open, it killed her.

So far only he could open the book, and for Aria to have brought it here, it means she was immune to the book curse.

Could it be it was because he had reincarnated her with the same powers he had used to write the book?

And also, how did this book get to Aria’s grandmother? Because he could remember that before dying in his previous life, he had locked the book inside a dark cave, so how did it end up in Aria’s grandmother’s house?

If the book only related to the magic it was created with, then is there really someone else that will be able to read its content?

In that moment, Kia’s words echoed in Tristan’s mind: "The child of the white wolf would destroy the world." And the fact that he had just slept with Aria without any protection didn’t help the uneasiness he was feeling at the moment.

Tristan didn’t care about the destruction of the world; his concern was how Aria would manage if he left her with a child.

Her being on the pill wasn’t enough assurance for him; the best way to ensure Aria never gets pregnant with his child is through magic.
