Married To The Blind Alpha -
Chapter 40: No Student Named Layla
Chapter 40: No Student Named Layla
One of the many things Aria has noticed about Tristan is that he doesn’t go out unless it’s necessary, so convincing him to go to a wedding of two people he doesn’t know is definitely going to be hard. Aria thought as she pressed the passcode to the house.
The moment she opened the door, she saw Tristan, holding a bunch of roses.
"Were you waiting for me?" Aria asked in surprise.
"Do you think I will be standing in front of the door with roses in my hand for a ghost?" Tristan asked with a smile. "Of course I was waiting for you. Congratulations on entering your final year." He said as he handed her the flower.
Aria collected the flower and inhaled its scent."Thank you."
Tristan stroked her hair lovingly as he said, "I’m proud of you." He then leaned in to kiss her and slowly smiled as Aria returned his kiss.
Ever since that day he saved her from being trapped by Kia magic, Aria has realized that she indeed has feelings for Tristan, and it made her to remember her grandmother’s words when she told her that she may never have a mate, but she will experience a love stronger than a mate bond. Call her foolish, but she deeply believes that Tristan is that love; he may not be perfect, but to her, he is.
Tristan pulled away for her to catch her breath and said, "I have a surprise for you."
"Really?" Aria excitedly asked.
"Close your eyes."
Aria closed her eyes, and her heart skipped a beat when Tristan clasped her hand with his.
Tristan led her to the kitchen counter and said, "Open your eyes."
Aria opened her eyes to see a cake with a candle on top, and beside it was something else wrapped in a gift wrapper.
Aria gasped in surprise and immediately went to unwrap the gift first, causing a chuckle from Tristan.
She opened the box her gift was kept in and was stunned to see a golden wristwatch, and the best part was the watch had her name engraved on it.
"It’s beautiful."
Tristan smiled as he asked, "Do you like it?"
"I love it, but..."
"But?"
"I haven’t even graduated, and you are already getting me a gift. People usually wait until the graduation before they get the person a gift."
Tristan’s gaze never left her as he wondered how he was going to tell her that he might not see her on her graduation day. The amount of power he used to get her out of that world that Kia had trapped her in is currently causing his health to deteriorate rapidly. Before, he knew his body was not going to last more than two years, but now, he could feel that he might not last for more than a year. This is the reason he wanted to come home before her, because if he doesn’t do this now, then he may never be able to celebrate with her again.
"Why did you go quiet?" Aria asked.
Tristan laughed softly and said, "Because I’m thinking on how to answer your question. The thing is, Aria, you have always worked hard in your studies, and that is why you got a scholarship, and then in order to retain that scholarship, you had to study even more than before, which is no longer necessary because I am more than capable of paying for your fees, but my point is, you deserve to be celebrated, and I mean every word when I say I’m proud of you, and I’m sure your grandmother would have not hesitate to tell you how much she is proud of you as well."
Aria’s eyes were already becoming watery as she said, "Thank you."
Things were truly different from their first life. In their first lifetime, Aitana was an Omega and an orphan who didn’t learn how to read or write. The only thing she was taught was how to do the household chores, but when they met, she had expressed her desire to learn how to read and write, and because of that, he would usually reserve one hour of his day to teach her.
Tristan came out of his thoughts when he felt her soft body in his arms. He smiled and wrapped his hand around hers, and they stayed like that for a while before he asked, "Shall we cut the cake now?"
After lighting up the candle, Tristan clapped as Aria cut the cake.
Aria cut a small portion of the cake and brought it to Tristan’s lips.
Tristan held her wrist as he ate the cake and licked her fingers with a mischievous smile on his face.
Aria felt goosebumps when she felt his tongue on her fingers and immediately removed her hand from his grasp.
"It’s delicious."
Aria glared at him as she asked, "The cake or my fingers?"
"Both." Tristan shamelessly replied.
Since it was obvious that Tristan was currently in a good mood, Aria wondered if she should tell him about Hailey’s wedding.
"Tris..." His phone rang, interrupting her.
Tristan collected his phone that was on the counter and saw that it was Cole calling.
"Give me a minute," Tristan said before walking out of the kitchen.
"Did you find out?" Tristan asked, and immediately he answered the phone.
"The place that Noelle suggested for Alpha Richard to go had a dead girl, who smelled like a wolf, but I don’t think she was a feral."
"I’m sure she isn’t. Find out who that girl is and get back to me."
"Yes, Alpha."
"After you are done with this task, I have another task for you. I need to transfer all my assets to Aria’s name, including my shares in the company."
Cole frowned as he asked, "Why?"
"Just be done with this, and then we’ll talk." Tristan said and ended the call.
"Is everything alright?" A voice asked behind him.
Tristan turned to see Aria looking at him with concern in her eyes, and he wondered if perhaps she heard his conversation with Cole.
He forced a smile on his face and said, "Everything is alright. Let’s go back to eating your cake."
"Hold on. I have something to tell you."
Tristan placed his phone inside his pocket as he said, "Go on."
"Well, I have two things to tell you. The first is, my friend Layla has asked that we go out tonight to celebrate finishing our exams and entering our final level."
Tristan frowns. "Layla? I know about Hailey, but I didn’t know you have a friend named Layla."
"She isn’t exactly my friend. She is my coursemate, and I knew her after she asked for my notes, and also she has the same name as my mother."
"Your mother’s name is Layla?"
Aria nodded. "Although I never once said it, my mother, grandmother, made sure to tell me everything about her."
"Was her hair the same color as yours?"
Aria touched her hair and shook her head. "It wasn’t. Grandma said, I must have gotten my hair color from a great grandparent or from my dad’s side of the family."
"Tell me about your dad." Tristan said, folding his hands.
Huh? Why was their conversation changing direction? She just wanted to get his permission to go out with Layla and then tell him about Hailey’s wedding; she didn’t want to talk about a man that had abandoned her.
Noticing her sudden silence, Tristan asked, "Did I say something wrong?"
"No, it’s just that I can’t tell you about my dad because I don’t know anything about him. My grandmother even refused to tell me his name. She told me that there was no need for me to know the name of a coward who had abandoned me at birth."
"I’m sorry I asked."
Aria smiled bitterly and said, "It’s alright; you didn’t know. Back to our main conversation, can I go out with Layla tonight?"
"If you answer my question truthfully. Is there anything weird about Layla?"
"Everyone is weird in their own way, Tristan."
"I know, but after getting attacked by a feral, I can’t let you go out just like that at night with someone I have never even heard you mention."
Aria sighed and said, "Apart from once dying her hair to my color and sometimes talking bad about Hailey, which I do not like, she doesn’t seem like a bad person. She looks innocent and kind of cute."
"Ok, give me a moment." Tristan said and brought out his phone; he dialed a number, and immediately the call went through. He said, "Garry, hack into the city college system and find out if there is a girl named Layla. She should be in the marketing department and also just entered her final year."
Garry chuckled over the phone excitedly and said, "Give me two minutes."
Aria looked at Tristan in disbelief as she asked, "Are you serious? You called a hacker just to find out if my friend is real?"
"Are you too trusting, Aria? We need to work on that before I leave."
"Leave?" Where was he going, and why did her heart ache at the mention of him leaving?
Tristan realized his mistake and was about to correct it when he pinged in a notification. He immediately opened it when he saw it was a message from Garry. His gaze moved from his phone to Aria as he said.
"There is no student named Layla at your level and department."
