Chapter 26: There Was No Body.
KIRHA VILLA
Aria sat on the bed, thinking about tonight’s event. If Tristan hadn’t given her his pendant, then she would have been dead. What was she even thinking going into a dark alley? But then again, she was sure that she had seen Hailey.
Tristan entered the room with a pack of ice and knelt down, placing the ice on her twisted ankle.
He looked up at Aria when she winced in pain and asked, "Does it still hurt?"
Aria nodded softly.
"How long does it take for your injuries to get healed?"
Aria shrugged and replied, "I heal at the same pace as a human."
"That isn’t right." Tristan whispered.
"What?"
"Nothing."
Aria looked at Tristan, who was focused on holding the ice to her foot, and she remembered the sound of his soft sob. She was curious about what made him shed those tears, but it was obvious he didn’t want to talk about it.
"Is Fred okay?" Aria asked, breaking the sudden silence.
"He is fine. He knows you are with me." Tristan said. He dropped the ice pack and stood up.
"What were you doing in a dark alley, Aria? Fred said you had gone to the hospital to visit your grandmother, so how did a feral attack you in an alley?"
"I... I thought I saw my friend Hailey; no, I was sure I saw Hailey."
"So you followed her?" Tristan asked sternly.
Aria softly nodded. "I followed her there, but she was gone, and then that crazy werewolf ambushed me, and started saying crazy things."
"Like what?"
Aria frowned as she said, "He said I was a wolf from the Yalk clan, and he wanted to mark me."
Tristan’s eyes were filled with rage when he heard that. If he had known, he would have pulled out that bastard body parts one by one before ending his life.
"You called him a feral. What’s that?" Aria asked oblivious of Tristan’s rage.
Tristan took in a deep breath to control his anger and said, "They are a group of wolves who are not under any pack. One way to recognize them is by their very dark red eyes, and also, according to the information I got today, it seems they are faster and stronger than a normal werewolf."
"But you kill him so effortlessly," Aria said.
"That’s because I’m not a normal werewolf, sweetheart." Tristan said with a slight smile. He saw the tiredness in her eyes, so he said, "You should get some rest."
"Why was he after me?" Aria suddenly asked.
"I don’t know, but I will find out. In the meantime, stay away from that friend of yours."
Aria stood up from the bed despite the pain and said, "No. I know Hailey had nothing to do with this. Her face was just used to get me there, but it wasn’t her. Hailey would never hurt me."
"How are you so sure about that?"
"I just know it."
"Trust is a dangerous thing to have, particularly in a girl whose father is the beta of the man who has asked you to kill me." Tristan said slowly walking towards her.
"And it was that same girl who had given me another way out of Alpha Milton’s mad plan. Hailey may be from the Shadow Moon pack, but she isn’t a bad person, and I won’t stay away from her."
"Suit yourself." Tristan said and was about to walk out when Aria held his hand.
"Don’t go. If you hadn’t given me your pendant, then I wouldn’t be alive today, and just the thought of that makes my stomach turn. Can you just stay with me until I fall asleep?"
Tristan turned to her and carried her in his arms. He gently laid her on the bed and stroked her hair affectionately as he said, "Go to sleep. I will be right here."
Aria looked at him, and there was a smile. on her face "Did we just have our first fight as a married couple?"
"And why do you look excited about that?"
Tristan asked, confused. Does fighting with him make her happy?
"My grandma once told me that an argument between a couple is a sign of a healthy relationship."
Tristan chuckled and said, "Maybe it is, but I don’t like fighting with you."
"Tristan," Aria called softly.
"Hmmm."
"Are you alright?"
Tristan froze for a moment. He knew the reason why she was asking this question, and so far he had been grateful that she didn’t ask why he was crying.
"Do not worry about me; I’m fine."
Aria nodded. She didn’t want to pry too much, especially when he didn’t want to talk about it.
"Thank you for coming to save me."
"I will always be here to protect you, Aria."
"Always?"
"Always." Tristan replied, and even though he knew he had just told a lie, he would still ensure she is always protected when he’s gone. He leaned in to kiss her, and this time she didn’t struggle. She returned his kiss, and soon after, she felt his hand slowly raising her gown and resting on her thigh, softly caressing it as their kiss became more passionate.
Aria moaned softly when she felt his hands caressing her intimate part, but she did nothing to stop it; instead, she wished he wouldn’t stop, and he didn’t.
Hearing her moans as he pleasured her with both his mouth and fingers brought Tristan to a high he has long forgotten. As always, his Aitana moans were the best. Tristan thought as he continued to devour her lips with his mouth, while his fingers were busy doing another job. He pulled away to watch her face as she trembled in his hands, and he couldn’t resist capturing her lips with his again.
Aria was surprised by both the pleasure she had felt and the way she reacted; she immediately became embarrassed and wanted to look away, but Tristan brought her face to his. "Did you like it?"
Why was he asking her that? Despite her thoughts, his intense gaze on her made her nod, and seeing his smile after she nodded somehow made her happy as well.
Tristan affectionately kissed her forehead and whispered, "Go to sleep now."
Aria closed her eyes, and the tiredness of the day hit her at once, and it didn’t take long before she fell asleep.
After seeing she has fallen asleep, Tristan switched off the light and left the room.
He called Cole, and when the call went through, he said, "I received your message. What do you mean you didn’t find a body? I killed him myself, took his heart from his body, so how come his body has suddenly disappeared?"
"I went to the location you sent me, and there was no body. I didn’t even find a single drop of blood. The area was completely cleaned. The way Aria got attacked today seemed planned, but she said that visiting her grandmother was a last-minute situation, so how did they know that she would be going to see her grandma?"
"They didn’t. Whoever had done this must have known that Aria would one day come to visit her grandmother, so they just took this chance to attack her. The Feral who had attacked her had mentioned that she was from the Yalk clan and wanted to mark her."
"Mark her?" Cole asked in disbelief.
"Since they are trying to use Aria’s grandmother to get to her, then there must be something they want from her. Cole, can you do me a favor?"
"Yes, Alpha."
"Find out if Aria and her grandmother are the only survivors of the Yalk Clan, and if they are, find out how the rest died."
"I will get to it immediately." Cole said, and Tristan ended the call.
He went back to the room and gently lay beside her. His eyes slowly went back to their dull brown before closing it to sleep.
Who knew if it was because of what had happened to her tonight, but when Aria closed her eyes to sleep, she found herself in a dark cave, lit by candles, and once again she saw the same girl who looked exactly like her tied to a table as a woman wearing a cloak began chanting a spell.
"Please don’t do this. I won’t be able to live without my wolf." Aitana cried as she struggled to break free from the chains that had been used to tie her down.
Why was she here? Aria thought. She suddenly found it difficult to breathe as the woman kept chanting.
"Devin will never forgive you!" Aitana shouted, and the woman stopped her spell.
"Forgive?" The woman coldly asked. "You think I need the forgiveness of a monster? Now that he has marked you, your bond would only grow stronger, but once your wolf is gone, your link with his wolf, Zolan, would also be gone, and your bond will be weakened."
Zolan? Isn’t that the name of Tristan Wolf?
Aria thought to herself as she remembered the day Tristan told her about his wolf.
A crazy laugh jolted her out of her thoughts, and she saw that this laugh was coming from Aitana.
"You wish to blame him for your sins? If you weren’t so hungry for power when you were pregnant with him, then Devin would have been no different from a normal Alpha wolf. And you wish to weaken our bond by taking away my wolf? I’m sorry to disappoint you, but even if you take away my life, our fate will forever be intertwined. Not even death can separate Devin and me."
The woman’s eyes flashed with anger, and Aitana found herself screaming in pain as she felt the connection with her wolf slowly weakening until it was gone.
"No!" Aria shouted. Tears fell from her eyes as she looked at an unconscious Aitana, and her hand went to her chest, wondering why it hurts so much.
