Ji Yunhuan sat alone on the bench in the corridor, a sense of helplessness surged within her.

She initially thought that if she just compromised, was a bit more gentle with Qi Cheng, she could avoid many problems. But she had no idea that many things in this world couldn’t be resolved just by lowering one’s head.

In the evening, she left the hospital, hailed a cab by herself, and went back to her previously rented apartment.

Getting out of the cab, she walked into the dark staircase, using her phone’s light to guide her steps, careful not to trip.

It was quite a struggle to get upstairs. When she looked up, she saw someone sitting by the door.

She was startled, stepped back a pace, nearly falling. She gripped the handrail tightly.

The man sitting by the door heard the noise and raised his head, "Yunhuan?"

"Gu Yubai, are you crazy? What are you doing here?" It was late at night, and he was sitting here all alone.

Upon hearing her voice, Gu Yubai excitedly walked towards her, "Why did you come back? Weren’t you at the Qi Family Residence? You’re going to marry Qi Cheng; I thought you’d never return."

He seemed to have had some alcohol, but not much.

It was probably because of this that recalling their time together made him even more heartbroken.

Ji Yunhuan took two steps back, "Stay right there, don’t come any closer!"

She did not want any physical contact with him.

Gu Yubai, to avoid scaring her off, indeed didn’t move any further.

"You were the one who didn’t want me! Don’t make me look so bad." After her father’s death, he was the only man she had ever been gentle to apart from Chenchen.

She had never been this good to anyone else.

He would never understand how painful it was to see him speak about her like that in front of Ouyang Fei.

Perhaps there wasn’t such deep affection between them, but in her heart, she had long considered him family.

"Let’s go back, okay?" Gu Yubai walked over and hugged her tightly, as if wanting to merge her into his bones, "It was my fault before. I was momentarily confused. Now I realize my mistakes, and I’ll treat you much better if you come back. Don’t stay with Qi Cheng."

Ji Yunhuan couldn’t help but take a deep breath. She tried to push him away, but his strength was terrifying.

"I won’t let go. If I do, I’ll never see you again."

"Do you know what you’re doing now? Aren’t you worried about Gu Family’s future? Can you afford to provoke Qi Cheng?" Even though her relationship with Qi Cheng was beyond salvaging, Ji Yunhuan would never have any intentions with Gu Yubai again.
