Chapter 69: Chapter Fifty-Nine

LEO

"Leo!" Tina cries from the other end of the line, "A-Are you free right now?" She sounds very desperate.

"Yes." I lie. I am not free at all. I am currently sitting on a pile of work which are waiting for me to do them. "Where are you? I will be there in a minute. Text me your current location."

"Okay!" She cuts the call.

It’s been a while since Tina actually called me. No, I don’t really remember the first time she called me. Did something happen? And if not then why would she call me? Of course, there is a reason behind the call.

I take my keys from the desk and then wind out of my office and meet with Kevin.

"President, you are going somewhere?" He asks even though he already knows the answer.

"Yes," I answer blandly. "Something came up."

"President." Kevin is at a loss for words as he pleads, "You have been slacking off every so often lately. There is a lot of work to do. Who is supposed to do them?"

"I will do them once I get back," I reply and then exit the company building.

Tina and I were never close. Well, it’s not like we wouldn’t be if we got the chance. I got out of Snow Estate eight years ago after that incident and never got back there. I wasn’t even invited to Tina and Jessie’s wedding. Yes. they didn’t invite me and even if they did I wouldn’t go even if I had to die.

I loathe Jessie. She did things to me that no sister does to her younger brother. So I would rather not give her any blessing at all. But my grandma did. She went to their wedding ceremony even though knowing that it was just for show. Jessie married Tina because of her father’s shares in our company. Everyone knew except Tina herself.

Poor girl though Jessie actually liked her this is why she married her. But it’s nothing like that. Jessie never liked her. She just married Tina for the benefits that would come with the marriage. That’s all. Nothing more. Nothing less.

My grandma knew all that but she still went there and gave them her blessings. She believed that everything would work out between them if they spent some quality time together. But who knew that situation would worsen that drastically?

After marriage, everything was just fine for one or two months then Jessie started to hit Tina. It got worse day by day and my family turned a blind eye to the situation. They pretended that everything was fine. Then when Tina’s bruises got worse they forbade her from going outside. They particularly caged her inside that house.

My grandma found out about it and insisted on helping Tina to get out of that hellhouse. But at that time Tina was way too scared to make any move against her wife and her family so she turned my grandma down. That silly girl still held hope for her and Jessie. She really loved her but in exchange, all she got was, insults and some bruises all over her body that she could hardly hide with clothes.

Then Rita was born to her. And when Tina saw that the harassment over her hadn’t lessened even at the least, she finally understood that she hadn’t married a woman but a fiend in disguise. She understood her mistake but it was too late by then and my grandma was way too sick to help her anymore, so she let go of all her hope and became a living corpse.

I feel bad when I look at those dull eyes that I am sure at some time were full of life and color. So I am gonna do everything I can to bring the light back in those eyes.

I pull in front of a café she texted me the address of. I push through the café door and the bell of the door chimes. A staff greets me with a smiling face but I ignore her and straight go for the seat at the corner of the room where Tina is sitting with Rita on her lap. She appears to be asleep. That is a good thing because I think the conversation we are about to have isn’t appropriate for a kid. Also there is a man with them but as his back is turned to me, I can’t see his face.

"Tina." I approach them and get to see the face of the man who is accompanying them. It’s Leon. My eyes sharpen and my guard is raised instantly. "What are you doing here?" I direct my question to Leon.

"H-He brought me here." Tina stands up for Leon. She looks at least a year older than I saw her last time, a few months ago at the ’reception party’. "I sneaked out of the house behind everyone’s back with Rita and Leon helped me with that."

I arch an eyebrow, not quite understanding exactly what Tina is trying to say, "What do you mean? You sneaked out of the house and he helped you?" I drag out a chair and sit there, my arms folded over my chest and my legs crossed, my expression stern.

"Yes." Leon states without looking at me, "I helped her get out of that house."

"And why did you do that?" My expression isn’t changing even a bit.

"Because I thought it was for the best," Leon answers firmly as if he wants to make me believe his words. "Tina, would you like to elaborate on the details?"

Tina nods and gulps down her nervousness before she starts to talk, "After that party, Jessie stopped doing anything to me for several weeks. It was all fine until...until Jules went away on his world trip. Jessie snatched away my phone and cut the lane line at home and it became worse. At first, she would just hit me if she was in a bad mood but now she hits me every day. I-I..." She trails off, her lips quivering as she clenches her clothes, her knuckles turning white.

"I couldn’t take it anymore and told Leon everything. I begged him to help me out of there. He then bought me a new phone so that, I contact you" She finishes.

Anger starts to consume my vision as I grit my teeth to control it. "She did what to you?" I ask, my voice low as anger pours out from my every word. "So she really didn’t buy my warning even though knowing that I don’t bluff."

"Leo...Leo, please get me out of there." I will die if I stay there." She pleads and my stomach sinks. "I can’t live with that woman anymore! She will kill me! She even tried to hit Rita a few times when she was mad. She will kill her too. Please save me. Please save her. Please..." A tear rolls down her cheek.

Fury flares inside my chest and I clench my fist so hard that my knuckles turn white and my nails dig into my palm. "I will save you. This is what I promised you. And don’t worry I will keep you and Rita safe. Come with me." I get on my feet.

"What are you going to do?" Leon asks, his brows slightly pinched.

"First, we will go and let the doctor examine her body and identify all the marks and bruises on her body. Then second, we will file an official police complaint and then a divorce file." I give Leon a full encounter of my instantly crafted plan.

Leon’s eyes widen slightly, "You can’t file a police complaint, Leo. Jessie is our sister. You can’t just turn her in."

"I said I would if I found any dirt on her again. But she didn’t listen to me." I don’t weaver, "And I don’t bluff. She should have considered my warning when she raised her fist against her wife. But she didn’t. She took me lightly. And I need to show her that I am not a person she can take lightly. I will file a police complaint, Leon. And if you guys act out of the line then I will contact the media too. So don’t get in my way." I turn to Tina, "Let’s go."

Tina nods and starts to follow me out of the café. Rita is in her arms, still fast asleep. "And yes." I look over my shoulder a little, "Thank you for bringing them to me. I will take care of her from now on. You don’t have to worry about them."

"Leo." Leon calls from behind, "Please wait a bit."

I stop and watch Leon catching up with me with a few huge steps and standing before, "I have something to talk about with you. Can we meet again?"

"I don’t think we should." I turn him down, "Eight years have already passed and it’s been a long time since we have actually talked to each other. Our relationship is already strained, Leon. I don’t see any need to fix it. So please stop bothering me and mind your own business."

I stalk out of the café and open the door of my car to let Tina in. "Umm...Leo, are you sure that you don’t want to give Leon another chance?" Tina hesitates as she hops on my car.

"This is not something I would like to discuss with you, Tina." I deny her coldly.

"Oh, okay. I am sorry." Tina purses her lips and quiets down.

The relationship with Leon is something I never want to talk about with others.
