Chapter 68: Chapter Fifty-Eight

"What’s up with that guy?" Erwin grumbles as he plops into the mattress beside me. "Why is he so clingy? I don’t like him a bit!"

I close my book and set it aside. "Nothing can I do about it." I take off my reading glasses and put them on my nightstand beside the bed, "He is a business partner and a very important one."

"I know." Erwin scooches in and lays his head on my lap. "Now tell me what happened between you and your brother eight years ago?"

"Hmm, I will tell you in one condition." I say.

"And the condition is?" Erwin arches his brow.

"Afterward you have to tell me where you go every day and what is going on in your mind." I pinch his nose.

"Okay, if you want to hear so eagerly then I will tell you." Erwin nuzzles with my nose, "First tell me about yours."

I inhale a huge breath and brace myself for my tale, "Eight years ago, I just got out of the boarding school. That time grandma was overseas, so I couldn’t go and live with her. I had to go back to my house to live with my family until my grandma gets back to the city. It was when I was in my heat cycles. At that time I couldn’t control my heat cycles well, so I sometimes locked myself up and waited until I had come down from my heat.

"Leon had a boyfriend back then and he was an alpha too. Their relationship was quite serious at that time. Leon really valued his partner highly. So, he brought his boyfriend home and I happened to be in my heat cycle. I locked myself up in my room but my pheromones were very unstable and strong. So, when that alpha was roaming through the hallway all by himself, he was lured in by my pheromones.

"I was in an unstable state of mind so I let him in and had sex with him. But we got caught in the middle. Leon and Jessie caught us. Jessie told Leon that I forced myself on his boyfriend. But that was not entirely true. Jessie knew that I was in my heat cycle, even so she insisted Leon bring his boyfriend over knowing that he was an alpha. Then she deliberately sent his boyfriend in the direction of my room and made us seduce each other. Jessie framed me.

"She manipulated Leon and the whole family to take action against me. They all insulted me and threw me out of the house. Leon was the one who slapped me and kicked me out of the house."

I exhale a deep breath as I finish, failing to notice that fire in Erwin’s eyes and the flex of his clenched fist. "I am really...speechless at this point." Erwin remarks. "How can they do this to you? You are their child too."

"I know right?" I sniffle, "But it doesn’t matter anymore. Now tell me about the thing you are hiding from me."

"It’s about my job." Erwin sits up, "I submitted a research paper at the college that I used to go to and they said I could join them for internship and after my internship if I want to then permanently work with them. This is the news I got today from them. And all these weeks I have been working on my research paper. I wanted to give you a surprise, so I didn’t tell you about this sooner."

I clamp my hand over my mouth, "Are you serious?" My eyes round in surprise, "And you didn’t tell me about this sooner!"

"I wanted to give you solid news, not anything half assed. So, I didn’t tell you sooner." He grins as he kisses my cheek.

It seems to be his favorite spot to kiss. I mean, my whole body is his favorite. And my right cheek is an additional favorite. I really like it when he kisses my cheek. It doesn’t have any sensuality in it. All it has is affection and sincerity.

"Hmm, I got it." I nod.

Erwin grins, "It’s so easy to tame you, king." He strokes my cheek playfully and I lean to his touch like a little kitten. "There is a reason I call you kitten, kitten."

I don’t answer and just enjoy his touch on me. He is warm and it feels nice. Wait, am I slowly becoming a cat or something? Seems so.

"Oh there is something I want to ask you, Leo." Erwin suddenly changes the subject but his hand still remains on my cheek. "Do you want to come to the haunted house with us?"

I pause and my eyes widen at his words, "W-What did you say?"

"I said, if you wanted to come to the haunted house with us." Erwin repeats himself patiently.

"By us you mean..." I arch an eyebrow.

"I mean, John, Ruth and I." Erwin elaborates.

"Oh." I somehow manage.

I had a really bad haunted house experience when I was a child. Grandma and grandpa got me to go with the other children in the neighborhood to collect treats. And those children dragged me into a haunted house, which had been specially set up for Halloween.

Back then I was just introduced to the thing called ghosts and other entities and still I would crowd away if someone just talked about ghosts and this kind of shit. And when I get to experience fake ghosts in real form. I was scared out of my wits and peed myself. Worse, I got separated from those neighborhood kids. I got lost in that haunted house and started to bawl my eyes out.

Thank God that one of those fake ghosts took pity on me and helped me to get out of there and called my grandma. They then took me home. Believe me I was so scared that I caught a fever the next day and couldn’t get up from the bed for the whole week.

Then there was another incident in my dorm on Halloween when I was sixteen. They somehow got to know that I was scared of ghosts so they tricked me and called me into the common room and locked the door from outside.

There were people waiting for me on the inside too. They turned off the light and scared the living shit out of me. I was so scared that I had a panic attack. Thank God that Ruth noticed that I wasn’t on my bed and went out to search for me. And he found me soon enough. Nor I really believe that I would have peed myself then too. What an embarrassment...

"Do I really need to go?" I ask, unsure of myself.

"Up to you." Erwin pats my head as if I am some kind of child. "I and John go there almost every year and have a lot of fun. This year Ruth insisted on going with us and you are my husband, so of course I want to take you out on a Halloween date too. But you are scared of these kinds of things, so I figured I should ask you about it first. What do you say? Do you want to go out with me on Halloween? It will be scary but enjoyable. And other than that I will be there with you. If you are that scared then I can bind our wrist together, so that we won’t separate from each other." He reassures me.

And I really feel like I can rely on him and go out with him that night and a mischievous plan has just clicked in my over-sharp brain. I will not be the only one who will get scared on Halloween. Erwin will accompany me on that aspect too. I will make sure that he does.

"Okay..." I nod slowly, "I will go out with you on Halloween but you have to promise that you won’t leave my side at any cost and protect me from all those ghosts and ugly creatures."

"They are all fakes, you know." Erwin’s grin widens, "But still I promise I will stay by your side and protect you from all those fake monsters."

I shake my head in acknowledgement, "I know they are fakes but still I can’t help it. You know I even peed myself when I was child and had a panic attack because of them?"

"Well," he arches an eyebrow, "That’s a thing."

"It is."

Now I am just waiting for Halloween. I don’t remember being this excited over Halloween before. It’s going to be a blast.
