Chapter 27: Chapter Twenty-Five
LEO
After wrapping up some of my important work I take off with Erwin. Destination: Unknown. He said that we are going to see a kid. What kid? I don’t know. But since he said it would be fun, I somehow managed to finish my mountain-like work in five hours. This entire time Erwin sat beside me and did some of his school work.
I sometimes wonder how Erwin got into a college like this. I mean this is a college where all the rich bastards get accepted. And even if Erwin doesn’t say so, I know that before he married me he wasn’t financially stable. This is why he behaves so materialistically. I wonder what his parents like. He never talks about them. And I think this is unfair. At least He knows my parents and meanwhile, I don’t even know their names! It’s unfair!
"We are here." Erwin states as he pulls into a private parking garage.
Erwin insisted on driving himself so I let him choose a car and drive it. And not to my surprise, he chose one of my most expensive cars which were parked in the company garage. Kevin warned me at least a hundred times, saying that he might scratch it or crush it with a truck. Kevin insisted on coming with us and driving the car, worried that I might get into some accident if Erwin drives.
But Erwin made a face. He stomped his feet in the ground and threw a huge tantrum like a little kid. So, I had no choice but to let him drive the car. And honestly speaking his driving skill is no joke. It’s rare to see such driving skill. He drives like a professional. So smoothly, that I didn’t even feel a jerk.
Where did he learn to drive like that? I mean he is not that old, so how does he seem so experienced?
"Okay," I unplug my seat belt, "where are we?" I spin my head around to observe my surroundings as I get out of the car and shut the door.
Just one look around the area tells me that this is one of the most expensive apartment complexes in the city. Only high-profile people can afford to live here, who have enough money to pay the rent. Let alone buying an apartment here.
"This is where I used to live before I married you." Erwin walks around the car and comes to me.
I give him a subtitled look, eyebrows quirked, "You lived here?"
Erwin snorts at my pointed look, "I lived here doesn’t mean it’s mine." He grabs my hand and starts to stalk to the elevator, I presume. "John owns an apartment here. I lived with him"
"You lived with him?" I ask, genuinely curious, "Why?"
"I will tell you when we get home." He grins and leans down to kiss my cheek as we step into the elevator. Thankfully there is no one in the elevator.
I accept the kiss, my cheeks turning slightly pink. Sometimes I hate my white skin tone for this reason. Every time he kisses me it turns so red and makes a huge deal out of it that embarrasses the shit out of me and I flush even harder. And it’s so evident that I can’t even hide it.
"But why are we here?" I again ask, "I mean you said we were going to see some kid. Why are we at John’s?"
"We are going to see John’s little brother." Erwin replies patiently.
This is one of the things I like about him. He always listens to me patiently and answers my every question.
"Why?"
"Well, he seems to be very scared of people," Erwin explains, "so John told me to make a visit. And I thought kids seem to like you a lot so I brought you along. Is that okay?"
"I am already here." I bite back a smile from forming into my face, "why are you asking now?"
"Oh right." He rubs the back of his neck.
This time I can’t help but smile at his stupidity. Erwin grins too. "By the way, what do John’s parents do? They seem to be quite rich to buy their son an expensive apartment like this." I comment.
"They sure are rich but they didn’t buy it for him." Erwin shakes his head, "This apartment was bought with his own money."
"How?" I am bewildered. Not my fault because a college student with no family back up can manage such a thing. Common knowledge.
Erwin sees my inner turmoil and explains further to me, more clearly, "He has a knack for computers and technology so..."
There is no need for him to say anymore. It is clear that John is a hacker or technology developer. I think it’s pretty okay as long as he doesn’t brag into someone’s personal space.
The elevator’s doors swing open revealing a wide hallway. Erwin steps out first and approaches an apartment door. There is a name plate outside the door, entitled John Goodie.
So this is where John lives...
Erwin rings the bell and after a few seconds footfalls can be heard from the otherside of the door and the door swings open.
"John!" Erwin crackles.
"You are here." John rolls his eyes to him but when he turns to me a smile replaces his stern expression, "Leo, pleasure to meet you again!" He greets me properly.
"The pleasure is all mine." I return.
"Please come in." John steps aside from the door frame so that we can enter.
’Hey John, it’s unfair!" Erwin whines, "You treat him so well but you treat me like a pig!"
"If I treated you like a pig then I wouldn’t have lived with you for the past few years." John sneers, "Anyway, let me introduce you to my younger brother." John turns to me, "Steve! Come on out! See, someone is here to visit!" He calls a worry lingering in his face.
Creak. A door at the end of the hall opens a little and a pair of big black eyes peer over us from inside.
"Come over here." John coos gently.
The little figure stiffly opens the door further and runs haphazardly to his big brother. He quickly hides behind John’s back, refusing to greet us. I can tell just by a look that He is a smaller version of John. Just missing the mole under his eye.
"Hey Steve, greet them properly. You are being rude." John admonishes sweetly, afraid to scare the little boy.
I hold out a hand, gesturing to him to not to say anything to him and then get on my knees to level with the little one’s height, "Hey baby, do you know who I am?" I softly call him.
"I am not a baby." Steve peers over from behind his brother.
"Hmm?" I can feel the heat of the other two men’s gaze on the back of my head, "Then what’s your name?"
"S-Steve." He replies stiffly.
"Steve, do you want to come here?" I coax him as I splay my arms out for him. Steve hesitates before coming into my embrace, "Good boy. Do you know who am I?" I praise as I get on my feet with him in my arms.
John seems to be very surprised at this reaction of his brother, "H-How did you?" He blurts out but Erwin signals him to shut up. And he complies.
Steve shakes his head, "No."
"Do you know him?" I point at Erwin beside me who waves at him.
Steve slowly nods, "He came to the church with brother once."
He has a good memory.
’I am his husband." I tell him.
"What is a husband?" Steve tilts his head, curiosity clogging up in his black orbs.
"Hmm...a husband is someone who loves you so much and takes care of you." I explain.
"Like brother?" His eyes light up.
I chuckle, "Kind of but a bit different."
"Oh." He nods like he understands what I said.
"Come here Steve. Let them sit." John takes him from me and sets him down aside. "Please take a seat and sorry for the trouble. Steve seems to like you."
"No it’s okay." I wave.
"He is my husband after all." Erwin says proudly.
John ignores him.

"What’s the deal with him, John?" I ask him as I finish chewing down my food. "He is a bit too stiff and cowardly for his age don’t you think?"
"Well, you see some kids from his age, who are bigger than him, bullied him because of his small body frame so it turned out like this. He even ran away several times from church because of that and this is why he is staying with me now. I don’t know what to do with him. He easily gets scared around people. He seems to like you guys, Leo and Ruth so he talks to you two. Though he knows Erwin, he doesn’t talk to him all that much."
"Is it when Ruth found him?" I raise a brow.
"Yes."
"Hmm, then you can send him to the hospital Ruth works at." I suggest.
"Wait, Ruth is a doctor?" John squeaks.
"Yes, if Steve goes there for therapy with other children, he can see Ruth any time. And Ruth can check on him from time to time. So, he should be fine and won’t be scared. I will talk to Ruth about it." I advise.
"Thank you!" It seems like a huge burden is lifted from John’s shoulder, "It helps a lot."
"Yes, this is a good idea I think." Erwin commends, who is shoving food into his mouth for the sidelines.
I am just afraid Ruth will start another problem.
