Chapter 28: Chapter Twenty-Six
LEO
I step out of the bathroom. There is pouring outside. Weird rain. It comes whenever it wants and goes at its own will too. How lucky. We just returned from John’s. I said I would talk to Ruth but honestly I don’t really think there is any need to inform him. He would help John even if John doesn’t want to. This is the kind of person he is. And this is the reason he always gets into unwanted troubles.
But I think this time he will be fine. John is genuinely a good guy. He doesn’t harbor any bad intentions like Ruth. I mean at least he doesn’t fantasize about my man-whore best friend just like he does. So, I guess it will ultimately turn out good.
My eyes search for a silver haired man, who has a wild smile plastered on his devastating face. I catch the side profile of Erwin sitting at the desk, doing something, probably his school work.
Doesn’t he study a lot?
Last night when I woke up from a nightmare I saw him studying that time too. Other than that he was studying all the time at my office. I approach him from behind.
"Do you need something Leo?" Erwin asks, not lifting his head from the laptop.
"No, I just wanted to see what you are doing." I answer simply.
"I am working on my presentation." He says, seeming too focused on his studies.
So I decide not to disturb him, I spin around on my feet, ready to climb up the bed and turn my switch off for the night. But then Erwin grabs my wrist and yanks me off my feet. I yelp and plop into his lap.
"W-What are you doing?!" I gasp, stunned by his sudden action. But my eyes get fixed on his face.
He is wearing reading glasses. And they suit him so fucking well. This man is always breathtaking and now with glasses he is looking devastating in another way. Both otherworldly in their own way. I feel like my lungs have been robbed of oxygen and my heart is very done with staying inside my chest, so he is pounding against my ribcage with all its might to get out. My butterflies have already broken free from their restrain.
"Is the kitten jealous that I am not sparing some time for him? Hmm?" Erwin taunts.
"What the_" My voice gets lost in its way to my lips as Erwin lowers his head and smooches on my lips.
And as nature’s law I open up my mouth for him to have his way with me. He slides his sinful tongue inside my mouth, slurping my tongue. As our tongue clashes, Erwin slides his one hand under my shirt, massaging my belly.
"I know, you have so many questions, Leo." Erwin abruptly blunts out, "Do you still want to ask them?" He kisses the corner of my lips softly.
I straighten up on his lap, "Yes." I nod. Actually these questions in my head are gnawing at me. It is almost driving me mad.
Erwin riches out and shut his lap top before carrying me to the bed. He leans me against the headrest and then slides between my legs, the back of his head resting against my chest. He takes off his reading glasses and sets them aside on the nightstand beside the bed. Meanwhile my fingers find their way to his long silky silver hair.
After making himself comfortable, he takes a deep breath and then starts with his tale, "My omega father used to be a prostitute. He fell in love with my alpha father. My alpha father promised him that he would marry my omega father. So, my omega father got pregnant with me. But as soon as my alpha father heard about it he abandoned me and my father and ran away." He pauses.
No wonder his omega dad hated his other dad.
"As the token of his love my father couldn’t throw me away." Erwin continues, "So, he decided to raise me all by himself. But since he quit his job, our life has been full of poverty. He could hardly manage the rent for our roof and daily necessity, so if I wanted to study I needed to take care of it all by myself. I studied my whole life by getting scholarships. I didn’t have any other option."
So this is how he got into an expensive university like this. By getting a scholarship.
"But, when I was in the third year of my high school," Erwin goes on with his tale. His story is very sad but the way he is telling me all this, doesn’t feel right. His tone is devoid of any emotion, like he feels nothing when he is telling me all this, "my father was killed."
Okay now, it is a shock. My jaw falls open, I don’t know how to react to this. I open and close my mouth several times but still couldn’t get anything g out of my mouth. Can you blame me? I have never consoled a person in my life.
But Erwin doesn’t stop, "And the murderer was my other father."
Sorry to say but the first one wasn’t anything near the second one. Now I am truly stunned. My eyes widen and I unconsciously tug on Erwin’s hair though he doesn’t complain.
"After murdering my omega father, he killed himself at the crime scene. The police recovered two dead bodies together. One was stabbed in his abdomen and the other cut his vein in his wrist." Erwin takes a heavy breath in.
And now I am truly contemplating which incident among these three is more catastrophic. Which one is more worth stunning over? A husband killed his wife then killed himself. Excuse me, is this some sort of crime documentary? If so, I am not interested. But this is what happened with the man, lying on my lap. I feel very awful for him.
No matter how much of a scum my family members are, at least they are still alive and kicking. They are not dead. At least I have people I hate. But he doesn’t have any of them. He was...alone. All these years, he was alone. Surviving all by himself. I wish...I wish I met him sooner, so that he wouldn’t be as lonely and cold as he was.
"I am sorry." I mumble into his ears, my voice heavy with emotions. Emotions I never thought I was capable of feeling for someone else.
"You don’t have to be sorry." Erwin comforts me as he takes my clenched hand on his own and strokes it gently. "It’s not your fault. It was just an unfortunate accident." Erwin adds extra emphasis on the word ’accident’ but amidst my inner turmoil I miss it.
I nod in reply and he starts with the second part of this story, "After my father died, I had nowhere to turn to, so I started doing some part time jobs. But their pay wasn’t that great since I was still a minor. I was struggling with my rent and living. That is when John offered me to go and live with him. He said I would not have to pay for anything. And since I was in a tight spot, I had no dignity and I accepted his offer almost immediately." He finishes.
"You guys must be close." I comment. And this brings a huge smile on Erwin’s face.
"We indeed are close." He admits, "We have been together for a long and long time, like an old married couple." His grin getting wider and wider. "He is my best friend!"
So he was not alone. John was there for him. Always. John was always there to watch over Erwin. He was there to make sure he was alright. To make sure that he didn’t feel cold. To make sure he wouldn’t give up to the cruel world. And I am sure Erwin was there for John too. He was there to help him rise back on his feet. To make him feel less lonely and cold. They were always together by each other’s side to make sure the other was alright even if he was suffering himself. Just like Ruth and me.
They have a friendship that even heaven can’t shake. I am happy he is lucky enough to find a friend like John. I am happy for him.
"You have a good friend, Erwin." I say warmly, full of emotions in my voice, "You should cherish him. Never let him down."
Erwin’s smile freezes for a bit then with utmost sincerity he nods, "I will. I will never let him down. I promise." He squeaks like he is taking an oath, "I never break my promises." He states.
"Is that so?" I raise my eyebrow, amused. "I never thought you had this kind of quality."
"I have. Trust me, I have." He sits up from my lap and determinedly looks at me like a little puppy.
I sputter out a laugh, "I believe you but Erwin to your disappointment, I am not an honest person." I hum, "I lie to my own accord. I break promises. I am a businessman after all."
Erwin tilts his head and stares at me before saying, "It’s alright even if you lie and break promises. Even if you break them, I will always keep them. I promise, I will."
"Don’t promise what you can’t keep, Erwin." I warn, my tone is challenging.
"If I have already promised then I will keep it." He replies in the same manner as he smirks. Before I can say something, Erwin’s tone suddenly changes as he asks, "Umm, Leo do you think you can spare some time for me from your schedule?" He sounds conflicted and unsure, very unlike his confident and cheerful self.
"Why?" I ask, taking him in carefully.
"Well... there is a prom at our university Thursday night. Everyone is bringing their significant other, so..." Erwin rasps as he fiddles with his fingers.
Significant other...? Wait, did he just address me as his significant other?!
All of a sudden my heart starts to beat resoundingly once again and the butterflies in my stomach find another reason to go berserk.
But none of them surfaces in my face, "It’s okay, I think I can manage." I take his offer.
Erwin’s eyes sparkle as a wide happy smile takes over his face once more. Erwin is overjoyed.
