Chapter 21: Chapter Nineteen

LEO

"Wait, what?" I am quite taken aback at this sudden change of subject, "Where did it come from? Weren’t we just talking about who is using whom?"

"We still are."

"Then where did the ’date’ come from?" I knit my brows.

"Listen Leo, if you want to use something to its full potential then you must know it." Erwin points out, "So, if we want to use each other to our full potential then we must know each other better."

"Just knowing my body isn’t enough?" I cock one of my brows, "Do you have to know me?"

Erwin gives me a disdained look, "Are you serious? You are the one who said I am to live with for my whole life. How am I supposed to live with a stranger for my entire life?"

Makes sense.

"But do we really go on a date?" I ask, still searching for a way to avoid the date.

"Why don’t you like it?" Erwin asks, a bit surprised.

"It’s not that I dislike it..." I trail off, can’t find the right word to describe it.

I have been to so many dates but none of them were any fun. It was some bastard wasting my money and time. And it was all no thanks to my grandma. So, I have given up on that for years now.

"Then it is decided, this weekend we are going on a date!" Erwin announces enthusiastically

I sigh. I can never win over him.

I check in front of the mirror one last time before getting out of my dressing room. I think I am looking quite decent in a white button down silk shirt tucked neatly inside chinos. I have applied a bit of makeup and worn some simple accessories. Perfect look for a date.

When I get out of the dressing room, I am greeted by an extremely tempting view. Erwin is skimming through his phone, wearing a gray polo shirt, black jeans and a black jacket. He is too wearing some simple looking accessories. This man is one word devastating. I can feel the butterflies in my stomach trying to break free from their cage.

Maybe I am staring at him a bit too intensely because he senses my gaze almost immediately and lifts his head to look me in the eyes. Our eyes look. My heart is beating so hard against my chest as if threatening me that it might come out of it any moment.

"Uhm." I clear my throat as I avert my eyes from him. "I am ready."

"I can see that." Erwin gets on his heels, he walks over to me and plants a soft kiss on my cheek, "Let’s go." The corner of his lips twitches upward and forms a soft smile.

The butterflies in my stomach go on a rampage. My face glows pink, my heart beats escalating in a dangerous manner.

Is he trying to rip out my heart?!

Then Erwin starts dragging me outside. "Aren’t we gonna have breakfast?" I ask, letting him pull me wherever he wants.

"Nope we are eating out." He drawls simply.

I just hum in response.

Everyone in the street is peering over our direction and whispering among themselves as we make our way down to the metro.

"Hey look at that couple!" A young girl exclaims to her boyfriend in a low voice so that we don’t hear her talking, "Aren’t they so beautiful?" She is in awe.

"They sure are." Her boyfriend replies in affirm.

As countless whispers rise around us, I can’t take my eyes off the man beside me. Well, he is a bit too captivating to take my eyes off of.

"I know I am handsome, you don’t have to keep staring at me." Erwin smirks, making me flush.

"W-Who is staring at you?" I squeak, looking away from him.

"Do you want to hold hands?" Erwin changes the subject swiftly and even without me saying anything and grabs my hand. He threads our fingers.

His hand is so big...

I stare at our hands for a bit and then unconsciously my lips curve into a small smile. I don’t notice that I am smiling but the man beside me does and his eyes sparkle.

Erwin suddenly halts before the Starbucks, "Erwin let’s grab something to fill our stomach first." He suggests.

I am about to open my mouth to ask him what he wants to eat and buy it for him but he beats me to it, "What do you want? I will go and buy it for you." He grins at me.

My lips quiver as my brain processes the foreign offer. It’s always been me in my every date who bought drinks and food for the other since I am the one who spends all the money. It is the first time someone actually asked me about what I want to eat. It feels...nice. Though I know he will buy it with my money but still... I like it.

Erwin waits for my answer for a few moments then repeats his question, "What do you want for breakfast, Leo?"

"I-I want caffeine." I rasp, "And anything you want to eat will do."

"A caffeine? Early in the morning?" Erwin quirks his eyebrows in amazement, "Are you sure?"

"Well, I can’t handle sweet stuff and other than that caffeine doesn’t work on me, so yes." I reply.

There is another reason behind liking caffeine. It helped me keep awake at night and protected me from those nightmares, which is haunting me for it seems like forever. I still can’t get used to them. They still scared me when they came. But it seems like even the caffeine has given up on me and stopped working. Even so, I can’t give up on drinking it since I have grown a bad habit of it and other drinks don’t suit my taste.

"You can’t eat sweets?!" He is flabbergasted, "Are you real? I mean you don’t like chocolate, cakes and other stuff too?!"

I shake my head.

"How come?" He presses.

"I don’t know either." I shrug, "Guess, my body and mouth don’t like it."

"Okay just wait a little. I will be here in five minutes." His hands slip out of mine as he lets go of my hand and enters the café.

I pull out my phone knowing that he is gonna take at least twenty minutes before getting out of there since it is Saturday and morning hours.

As I predicted, after twenty minutes Erwin walks out of the bustling shop, carrying two paper bags. I tuck my phone back inside my pocket as I reach out and grab one of the bags.

"Sorry, I was a bit late." He apologizes as he hands me the bag.

"I knew you were gonna be late." I shake my head.

Subtitle: It’s no big deal. You don’t have to apologize.

I fish out my caffeine and a bread out of the paper bag, "Bread I don’t_" I start but Erwin butts in.

"It’s sugar free." He explains, "I got myself one too!"

I hesitate a bit before biting down a small portion of the bread. My eyes instantly lighten up, "Hmm, it is actually nice!" I comment as I engross myself in eating it.

Erwin’s grin widens and he starts eating too.

We take the metro to go where Erwin is taking me. After getting off the metro we take a stroll to my unknown destination.

’Where are we going Erwin?" I can’t control my curiosity and ask.

"It is a secret." Erwin puts a figure on his lips.

I pout in disappointment. Erwin chuckles.

After a while of walking silently, Erwin stops abruptly on his track and states, "We are here." He gestures to me to look up and I comply.

The theme park!

"Where are we?" I ask despite seeing those dazzling words above my head, just to make sure I am not mistaken.

"The amusement park." Erwin says to reassure me, "Thought you would like it."

"You know it’s my first time here!" Excitement and anticipation evident in my remark.

"You have never been here before?" Erwin gets another wave of surprise.

I violently shake my head.

It is not like I didn’t come. It is that I couldn’t come. When I was little, my parents never thought of bonding with me or bringing me anywhere. My grandparents were always busy as they were building a whole new company. And when I turned thirteen I was immediately sent away and locked up in one place. After that when I got out I had no desire to enjoy my life, so no I never visited an amusement park.

Though Erwin looks like he wants to ask more about it, he doesn’t press further. He grabs my hand and takes off to the grand entrance, "Then let it be the first time!"

Now I think dates aren’t that bad. Not at least with Erwin.
