Chapter 386: Cyclone Kick Begins!
Chapter 386
"Do you understand that now?" Yami asked as Grey stood up, a wide smile brimming across his face. He glanced at his hands, clenching and unclenching them slowly as if savoring the new sensation.
"I not only understood," Grey said, his voice brimming with excitement, "I’ve already done it—and I’m still swirling it around."
He clenched his fists again, this time feeling the smooth, controlled flow of Ki moving through his limbs like an energized river.
A few minutes earlier, Yami had decided to teach Grey how to swirl Ki around his body—not just in one location, but across multiple regions at once.
It was a technique that allowed for versatile movement and enhanced combat abilities. Instead of focusing his Ki into one spot, Grey was now capable of directing it into several parts simultaneously.
Not only could he punch harder now, but he could also run faster, and his body had become more resilient against impact.
To test this out, Grey took a light stance, grounding his feet into the earth. He then launched a punch forward with a swift motion.
A sudden bang echoed through the air as wind rippled outward in a burst, stirring up dust a few meters away. A satisfied smirk crept onto his face.
"You really are talented," Yami said with a hint of pride, his eyes scanning Grey from head to toe. "A concept that took me over a week to master—you’ve done it in just a day. That’s pure dedication... and willpower."
Grey smiled sheepishly, scratching the back of his head.
"Well, it’s because I’ve got the best teacher," he said with sincerity. "If it wasn’t for you, I would’ve struggled a lot more. So..."
He bowed slightly with a grin of appreciation.
"Thank you, Master Yami."
"Kek, kek, kek! Oh hell yeah!" Yami burst out laughing, holding his stomach in pain. Tears rolled from his eyes as he struggled to catch his breath. "He’s suddenly become respectful!"
"Hey! I can be respectful if I want to!" Grey clicked his tongue in mild annoyance as he straightened up.
"Well, it’s good to know you possess a few functioning brain cells," Yami teased, chuckling again.
Grey rolled his eyes. "So, what’s next on today’s training list?"
Yami turned around and tilted his head back, glancing up at the sky. A soft breeze ruffled his hair as he assessed the time.
"Alright, we’ve still got a bit more time. You said you wanted to learn the Cyclone Kick, right?"
Grey’s eyes lit up, and a wide grin stretched across his face. "It’s about time!"
"I was told by Millie that you executed the Triple Threat Technique pretty well during your alleyway fight. How true is that?" Yami asked, turning back to face him with a serious look.
"I did it once. I managed to sense the feeling, and I’m confident I can do it again," Grey said with a nod of determination.
"Good. Before I teach you the Cyclone Kick, I need to see you perform the Triple Threat Technique again. I’ll come at you—half speed, half strength. Your goal is to execute the move," Yami said, lowering into a combat stance.
"Wait! You’re going to attack me? I don’t even know how strong you are!" Grey’s eyes widened slightly in panic. "What if I can’t dodge in time?!"
"Are you ready?" Yami asked again, his knees bent, muscles taut, and his eyes fixed on Grey like a predator stalking its prey.
"Hell no!" Grey shouted back, his voice a mix of anxiety and disbelief.
"Good! Here I come!" Yami roared as he bolted straight for Grey, using only half of his speed and strength.
"Damn it!" Grey exclaimed as he suddenly saw Yami’s fist heading straight for his face. Out of instinct, he leapt backward, narrowly avoiding the punch.
The force behind the swing created a small gust of wind that brushed across Grey’s face.
"Again!" Yami called out, dashing for Grey, who had barely regained his stance. He was about to strike when, in a flash, Grey pivoted sharply to the side and then—
Bang!
Grey surged forward at blistering speed, Ki swirling violently around his fists as he launched a punch with all his might. Another loud bang echoed as he charged straight for Yami.
"Tsk! Too slow!" Yami commented coolly, observing Grey’s movements with sharp eyes. Just at the right moment, he crouched and leapt into the air.
Grey’s punch met nothing but air. With no resistance to release his force upon, he lost his footing and nearly fell flat on his face.
Luckily, he managed to steady himself just as Yami landed softly behind him. With a swift, calculated move, Yami used his foot to lightly tap Grey on the back, sending him crashing face-first into the ground.
"Tsk, tsk, tsk," Yami clicked his tongue and shook his head in disappointment as Grey stood back up, anger flashing in his eyes. He dusted himself off furiously.
"What was that for?" Grey asked with a slight frown.
"I was right," Yami said, sighing with a half shrug. "You are indeed talented, but your techniques are way off."
"Way off? What do you mean way off? I did it the same way I did back at the alleyway," Grey retorted, raising an eyebrow.
"And the reason it worked? Let me guess—your attacker was caught off guard. Judging by your earlier expression, he must have underestimated you and didn’t take you seriously. That’s why your skill worked."
Yami’s tone shifted to a calm but serious one. "But against someone as skilled as me? I assure you—it won’t."
"Why do you say so? What’s wrong with what I did?" Grey asked, a slight frown lingering on his face.
"Your timing," Yami answered bluntly. "You have the strength, the speed, and the agility—but your timing is off."
"How so?" Grey asked, his brow raised.
"See, everything about martial arts relies on perfect timing. You need to be sharp in your observations. Watch your opponent closely—every muscle twitch, every glance, every little habit. Nothing should escape your notice.
Study and read your opponent like an open book. Pay attention to how they react to your attacks. And when the moment is right, you strike."
Yami raised his fist as he spoke, emphasizing each point.
"Study your opponent like an open book. Got it," Grey nodded in understanding.
"No, you don’t," Yami sighed and shook his head slightly. "When Vanessa demonstrated the Cyclone Kick, were you prepared to counter her?"
"No. It was sudden," Grey admitted, recalling the brief spar between him and Vanessa.
"Exactly my point. She struck when you least expected it, when you weren’t prepared or even sure of what she intended. That’s what we call timing," Yami explained.
"So... what now?" Grey asked, lifting a brow.
"I’m going to teach you the Cyclone Kick now," Yami said with a smirk, stepping forward until he stood directly in front of Grey. "Let’s begin."
