Mage And Wolf -
Chapter 271
Chapter 271: Chapter 271
Alpha Conway is remarkably accepting when I return through the gate Elder Song has opened to propose bringing him a bunch of new neighbors.
I had honestly expected reticence and an attempt to get them settled as far as possible away while still being close enough to help, but both him and the pack seem almost eager to have them and it’s more than just a safety in numbers thing. They’ve even suggested adding buildings to the compound for the refugees.
Lelou should be bringing them here now, at least the ones that wanted to come, with intentions to erect another condo complex for them. Just the basics will do, according to Alpha Conway, who thinks that doing the finishing work like flooring and painting will help them build an attachment to their new home.
"What’s the deal Conway? You seem really enthusiastic about this?" I ask him and he gives me a ’not so loud’ gesture.
"We’re short on manpower to keep the area secure. We’ve got lots of room in the walls, even to grow essential crops if we run short on monster cores, but with just my pack, the best I can do is defend this one spot. If we can make a proper walled city, like our own miniature Arcana, we can start spreading out and driving the monsters away instead of constantly being on guard against attacks. But that needs people. People that you’ve got. Or will have. So I will take all that I can, as long as you vet them first so we don’t get saddled with a bunch of Cultists or criminals."
So the Alpha has big dreams does he? I’ll have to help make them happen. There’s bound to be more concentration camps on that planet we can liberate.
Lelou and the cultivators are arriving now, the new arrivals looking wide eyed at the pack compound, some impressed, some worried it’s just a new prison.
"Welcome everyone. Lelou here will be starting to build you an apartment building in just a few minutes, so I would like to know if we have any mage type cultivators in the crowd? Earth would be the best, but any cultivation strength and specialization is going to be useful."
A few hands go up and three men with a small child come forward. They all look to be related, so they’re likely using the same family inherited cultivation technique.
"None of us specialize in Earth Magic, but we can all use it to some degree. Our girl specializes in water magic if you need drinking water." Their leader explains.
"With hundreds of new arrivals? The pack will need everything. The water cisterns are mostly full now, so that’s not a rush, but Lelou and Alpha Conway, who will be your host here, have building plans for the others to help with. The Alpha is a mayor of sorts, for those who don’t understand how werewolf packs work."
"What do the rest of us do in the meantime? Even with spells it will take a while to put up a shelter, right?" The White Dragon Priestess asks quietly.
"You can rest, meet the pack, if some of them are feeling the need to burn energy, there are a few hunting packs going out. More meat and monster cores are always in demand." I shrug, not sure what they can really do for a few hours before they’ve even had time to settle in.
Going hunting seems popular though. It’s a good way to get to know the area, as well as the werewolves on the hunting teams. The scouts have sighted a few packs of Category 2 monsters for food, and a handful of Category 4 monsters that need eliminating.
There are Core Formation martial cultivators, all mystic type from what I can tell, among the refugees and they’re more than up for the challenge after having been locked up and deprived of their hard earned cultivation powers for so long.
Not only will it remove the threat, but they’ll get the cores and get in good with the new neighbors. Essential if they want to start forming a new Sect.
Hui’Jin offers to show them the way, since their leader is a Dragonkin, who presumably follows the Dragon Gods, and she is at the age where she wants to impress her peers. She’s much stronger than any boy her age, but they don’t know that yet and she intends to remedy the situation.
I wonder which one she’s got her eye on? One of the young Dragonkin? Maybe a Beastkin boy? Who knows, it might be one of the girls. I’ve never actually talked to her about such things.
The schematic for the building, which turns out to be an identical copy of the family building that they’re going to build double length to give them extra space for the next batch of arrivals, has the cultivators do have seen the details in a state of shock and awe.
I often forget, most cultivation worlds are basically medieval in societal progress. But we’ve got electricity, running water, central heat and more that they would never have expected. This might actually be a big quality of life improvement for some.
Lelou and two Mages have started the structure of the building, while the last is poring over schematics with an intense look on his face meeting about Alchemy. Finally, a topic I know.
"Do you need to make something? I heard your mumbles about alchemy, and I’ve got a decent selection of the essentials through Grade 3 Pills." I say, moving to his side, only to realize he’s looking at the plans for the wood stoves, thinking they’re a form of cauldron heater. He’s not entirely wrong, but they won’t get hot enough for higher grade pills.
"They’re for cooking on, not alchemy. Most users will feed them wood to stoke the fire, but an alchemy flame will do as well."
"I see. I wish the cooks had survived the attack on the Sect, they’d love this place. But the Red Dragon wants one of these for every unit and I specialize in metal based spells." He says, turning the plans to help make sense of them.
"Do you want to look at one? They’re a standard pattern, there’s dozens of them around already?" I suggest and he nods happily, rolling up the design.
"Lead the way High Priestess. The better I understand, the more of them I can get ready for the morning meals."
