Mage And Wolf -
Chapter 262
Chapter 262: Chapter 262
They get what they need without issues, items to decorate their rooms, blankets and some simple roll up mattresses that everyone is picking. They expand when unrolled and they’re fairly comfortable, certainly much better than ones that have been trampled into the mud.
I drop a half dozen category 3 monster cores into the collection basket with a wink and the attendant smiles, calling the next group forward.
"I’ll see you all at cultivation practice tonight. Don’t be late, I’m going to write up cultivation manuals for you now." I call, waving at them as they head for the family building with their new Guardian.
They’re all fairly similar in aptitude, I’ll only need to make two different books for them, but I should make at least four or five for the pack, so everyone can get closer to optimal for their own aptitude. Lelou can tell in an instant which one they’ll need, so I go track her down.
The Red Dragon is, predictably, found in the daycare with Lala, the two of them surrounded by werewolf puppies. They’re all human in form, they won’t shift until they’re older, but they’ll always be puppies to me. And not just because that’s what they smell like to my sensitive nose.
"Lelou, I’m going to make some cultivation technique books for the pack. I don’t want to check them all and make dozens of different books though, what ones do you think would be best?" The Dragon thinks a while, contemplating my question before answering.
"There’s a bunch of possibilities, but the entire pack has a secondary lightning affinity. If you have a copy of a Lightning technique that would be for the best, then everyone can compliment each other and work together."
I hadn’t considered that. But it’s a good idea, most of the reason that the light cultivators work so well together is that they’re all using the same technique and know each other’s abilities, a trait that they share with a werewolf pack.
I’ve got a basic form of the Divine Lightning Sect’s cultivation technique, suitable for outer court disciples, and Inner Court disciples without a special affinity. I also know their combat style very well, thanks to Elder Po, so it’s perfect for our purposes here.
Making the books is easy, just use a talisman to copy the first one you wrote. But teaching them to actually use it could be more difficult. I’m not a lightning type cultivator, and neither are any of the people I brought with me. So, much of this will rely on their own skills to get started, but the technique is well proven to be effective.
Most of the adult and older children among the pack members are already gathered including the kids I promised personalized methods to. I didn’t forget, I made them variants of the basic Divine Lightning technique. It’s better suited to them, but close enough to what everyone else is doing that it won’t clash with the others.
"This is the cultivation method of a Sect known as the Divine Lightning Sect. It’s well suited to the Pack as a group and will cultivate much faster than the basic technique you’ve all been using. I won’t try to force anyone to switch, but I’ve got books for everyone." I greet the werewolves in the big lounge of the pack house. They’ve spread cushions all over the dark colored hardwood floors, getting comfortable for an evening of cultivation and meditation.
"How much faster?" A young warrior asks, looking at the book in his hands.
"I depends on the person, but the right technique can be a three times or more increase in effectiveness. The Alpha tells me almost everyone was capable of cultivation, which is shocking among a regular population, and the pack bloodline gives you all some shared cultivation affinities."
"Mediating is so boring though." One warrior sighs.
"Never Fear. Do you think I would give werewolves a technique without a combat element? I’ll introduce the new techniques tomorrow at training, mastering the style is part of mastering the cultivation technique."
That’s put them in a much better mood. They’re physical sorts, sitting still all night is hard on them, even if it’s for the very best of causes.
"Will we learn to be badass assassins?" One of the younger girls asks.
"This style is for fighting together as a pack, or alone if you need to. Assassination styles are for cultivators without a pack." I tell her and the others laugh, knowing that I’m from an Assassin Sect.
"More sensible than I thought, Young Miss." Alpha Conway says, looking over his copy of the book.
"I had fears that you’d let your biases and personal style influence what you taught the pack, but it looks like you set all that aside."
"I’d look bad if I didn’t pick the most suited style. I have a reputation to uphold, you know." I joke with the Alpha, who snorts in amusement.
Despite my concerns, the pack is doing well with the Divine Lightning Sect method, I can feel the lightning energy building in the air as they begin absorb to the fundamentals of the new technique. The benefit to cultivating as a pack is that the energy resonates, making it easier for the less talented cultivators to get the hang of things, and increasing the quality of lightning energy everyone is working with.
The down side is the distractions.
At the moment, everyone has different ideas on how it might best work for them, so they’re trying multiple positions, circulation patterns and even mantras to assist them. The most amusing is the girl who wanted to be an assassin, who is curled up on her side with a stuffed animal like she’s sleeping. But it’s working, I can feel from here that she’s doing an excellent job of refining her body and mana veins, having moved past Foundation Realm into the first rank of Fortification using the old technique.
One of the others is going to wake her up so she doesn’t get in trouble with the Alpha until they notice the Lightning crackling in her hair and shake their head at the girl’s strange technique. It’s catching on too. Rubbing a stuffed animal for static electricity to get themselves in the right frame of mind is the preferred method for the younger girls, now that they’ve seen it working.
