Mage And Wolf -
Chapter 246
Chapter 246: Chapter 246
"I believe I will get some divine assistance to answer your first question today, Silver Avatar. But after that, you’re on your own." I say and he smiles.
"The Gods are fickle at best, so I will have to make this one count. I have many questions for High Priest Karl about Arcane magic, but the most pressing one I am stuck on while trying to ascend has to do with the nature of the Celestial Body and how it interacts with the fundamental laws of the universe. Divine energy cultivated and Divine energy transferred are fundamentally identical, but only one can Merge with the Celestial body to solidify it and permanently enhance its power. What I don’t understand is why? Why can Celestial and divine energy gathered by me but not cultivated by me not be used to merge with my Celestial Body?"
The answer flows into my brain, the Primordial nature of this divine truth giving me a headache as my mind struggles to comprehend it. The only thing I can think to do is grab the Silver Avatar and share every bit of that knowledge with him, because there is absolutely zero chance that I can explain this in words. No wonder he was having troubles with it.
I also now know why he only gets one question. Not to limit him, but to limit me. A great deal of knowledge from the Gods is stored within the relic in the shrine, and I’m not exactly ready for a full dose of every divine truth an ancient academic might have wondered the answer to.
"That is, oh, yes, I see now. Thank you Nomad, and thank the Gods for this revelation." The Avatar says, beginning to cultivate to absorb this new revelation exactly where he sits.
The Blue Avatar looks at him with a grin. "I told him nobody could explain that in words, you had to understand it to understand it. Hopefully I get as lucky. What I am studying is the essential nature of all matter, the positive and negative energy don’t seem to add up, there is an inert mass that makes up much of the cosmos." She begins and I grin.
"No need for a divine revelation for that one. I believe Karl has a nuclear physics textbook with him somewhere. Earth’s science learned a number of essential truths without the aid of magic." I brag, looking to Karl to see if he’s got the necessary books with him. It seems he either does, or knows how to get them, because he’s already begun setting a creation circle.
Once the circle is done, he frowns in concentration and book after book appears, stacking up on the floor until they’re over a meter high.
"That should cover every question you’ve got in relation to nuclear physics and related fields of study. I also included a copy of the Nuclear Fission spell that I am certain you’ve heard of by now. That should help you relate the science to the possible practical magical applications." This seems to be much better than a direct knowledge transfer to the Blue Avatar, the Ancient Dragon looks like a little kid on Christmas staring at all the books.
The others seem to require a bit more time to formulate their questions, possibly under the assumption that since the Silver got only one question, so will everyone else. That works well for me, they’re bound to have a lot of questions that I’ll have to look to the relic for answers to.
"I’ve got a question about reincarnation. Sometimes when a body is healed and reunited with its soul, the spell is successful, but the Merger isn’t complete. The revived one will be damaged in some way, catatonic, insane, berserk. What went wrong?" The White Avatar asks.
Reincarnation is their field of practice as healers but the Black Dragons domain, so the true nature of it often eludes them.
"The nature of a soul changes as it prepares to enter the underworld. If you bring it back after it has started to change but hasn’t yet moved on, you’ll get an incomplete Merger with the body, from minor damage to mindless undead, depending how far along in the process they were. In short, the solution is to change their essence back to that of the living before reviving them. In those cases, a Black Priest would be your best bet, but a necromancer might also suffice." I explain but he still looks a bit lost.
"Karl, can I get a memory transfer scroll? I need to show him what I mean, and killing someone in the hotel room is just too messy."
The Avatars that are still paying attention chuckle at my rejected idea, but the Blue Avatar brings out a scroll before Karl has a chance. "Use this one, I’ve got a whole bunch I use for teaching acolytes a single focused bit of information. It’s enhanced to help comprehension."
Focusing on the memory of souls entering the underworld and how they change, I activate the scroll and pass the knowledge to the White Avatar. The Black Avatar looks just as intrigued, so I include him in the spell as well, seeing his eyes light up as the knowledge fills in the gaps of what he already knows.
"That’s not what I expected, the change is entirely different than a simple transformation that you could reverse, it’s more like they’ve been healed in a way that no longer needs a body, so you need to injure the soul to return it to the previous state so you can heal it and merge it with its body." His speech trails off at the end and he starts making notes on how to change some spell he’s been using. Muttering things about efficiency and repeatability.
The only other Avatar with the look of a pressing question is the Red Dragon.
"During the first war between the followers of the Dragon Gods and the Demons, there was a spell that merged sections of two different Realms within the same Plane together to create an isolated pocket dimension to make war in, where none could escape or enter after the casting. Can you find out how to cast it?"
That doesn’t seem at all cultivation related, but I suppose there really wasn’t a restriction, I just assumed they’d want knowledge that would help them reach Divinity faster. The answer is in the records, but seeing the memory of it being cast, I don’t think mere immortals could do that, no matter how close to Divinity they are.
The blue Avatar passes me another scroll and I share the knowledge, making the Red Dragon frown. "Maybe a group casting in a large force might make it possible for immortals? The legends tell of the Avatars doing it, as Immortal Realm Cultivators in the Mortal Planes."
That I don’t know anything about, but the Red Dragon looks like they intend to try.
