Mage And Wolf
Chapter 213

Chapter 213: Chapter 213

Walking through the gathering of cultivators outside the city is much more fun than I thought it would be. I changed my hair to a mousey brown and disguised my face to look a little less distinctive, just a generic face in the crowd, and conveniently much more like the illusion John is wearing.

The similar faces have caused no ends of misunderstandings though. The Lycans and Dragons know our species by scent, and looking at the faces assume I’m his daughter given our difference in apparent cultivation. Which in turn makes them think he took a pure blooded Greater Demon as his mate.

It seems that’s a taboo of sorts, a naughty little secret polite society doesn’t mention. The Seraphim who notice me look disgusted, but the demons who do give John appreciative looks. All in all, it’s a struggle for me not to laugh.

A younger Demon woman, appearing to be in her early twenties motions for my attention while John is chatting with a group of human cultivators about the "Divine Retribution" leveled against the area, debating what might have caused it.

"Is it true what they say about Lycan men?" she asks when I get near.

"I don’t get out much, what rumors did everyone else say about them?" I ask back, now intensely curious about what the demons think of Lycans.

"Big red rocket with a knot the size of your fist?" she asks gleefully, eyeballing Beta John.

"If they’re shifted to Lycan form, maybe. But that one’s taken." I tell her and she latches her arm around mine.

"Then onwards! You’re a Lycan, you can be my wing woman." She declares and the Lycans around us hide their laughter. With her the looks we get aren’t as strange as when I was with John.

"Hey sweet thing." a voice comes from behind us and we both turn to find a group of Lycan men in their late teens. The youth smiles at us then sniffs the air.

"Sorry, didn’t realize you were taken." He says, but I put a hand on his shoulder.

"Now that’s alright, I’m just helping my friend here with a study. She wants to know if a Lycan Alpha’s son can live up to the hype." I tell him and he puffs up his chest in pride.

"The Silver Springs pack are the strongest warriors in this Immortal world." He brags.

"But are the battlefield the only place they can perform?" my new friend asks, licking her lips and looking between him and his second in command. The guys howl at the challenge and their leaders walk her away, each holding one of her hands.

"Well, they’ll be a while. Have you guys heard much about what everyone was looking for in the rubble?" I probe and they nod, eager to show off to the Lycan girl willing to help them hook up.

"It’s supposed to be an ancient Dragon War relic. Everyone is saying it’s in pieces and the Sect was destroyed when they resisted turning it over to a cultivator who wanted to steal it from under the Divine Council’s nose. Those are their guards over there, see. There’s a few more and two Dragon Priestesses with them. I bet they would pay a fortune if you found it, intact Divine treasures even."

That’s a good rumor to build on. "I heard they gave a Sect a few days from here a Divine Statue just for information that led them here. But someone beat them to the Sect and they’re secretly pissed at whoever it was." I tell them in a low voice.

We chat and snack from the goodies I’ve got in my storage for another hour, other youths coming and going from the group before we agree the others just aren’t coming back and decide to split up.

I return to the adult conversations, everyone wants to chat with the extremely strong Beta John, like we’re at a networking event. It’s a wellspring of information and all in good spirits until an Irate Alpha comes charging at us with two youths in tow. The second in command of the Lycan boys earlier, and my new Demonic friend Sibyl.

"Look what your daughter caused! He yells, pulling her collar to the side, revealing a fresh mating mark. Now that’s efficient work, he decided she was his forever in just half a day.

"You’re a disgrace to Lycans everywhere, my Beta’s son is ruined, what should we tell his arranged mate?" The Alpha rants while Sibyl, standing just out of his sight now, holds up her hands almost shoulder with apart and then makes a fist, causing her mate to blush and me to laugh.

"Tell her she wasn’t woman enough for a ranked Lycan and enjoy the benefits of a generation of half Demon children. They’re plenty strong as warriors. If you don’t believe me, I can demonstrate." I tell him, drawing his attention.

"What do you know about anything girl?" he snaps, adding the force of his Alpha authority in an attempt to make me bow. It just flows over me and I can see the shock on everyone’s face.

"Down Boy." I Command, using a mental domination technique that comes with being as a High Priestess and I can see his knees shake momentarily before he growls.

"If you don’t trust your son made the right call for his best friend, let me show you just how strong a half Lycan can be." I say with a smile and Beta John hides his face in his hands. The crowd is backing up to give us room and the two young lovers look horrified, even after I give them the thumbs up.

"An Alpha’s daughter thinks she can hold her own against the Alpha of the Silver Springs Pack? Fine then, let me show you what it means to be Alpha." John is giving me the cut it out gesture, but the crowd is five high, the immortals floating above us to watch the spectacle. It’s a bit late to back out now without causing more trouble.

We both shift for battle, the Alpha growing to nearly 250cm tall, with vicious fangs and long claws. I get cute ears and a happily wagging tail.
