Mage And Wolf -
Chapter 212
Chapter 212: Chapter 212
Everything disappears in a flash of blinding light and I can feel my skin melting. We’ve got to be fifty kilometers away, did I miscalculate something? It was only supposed to blow up the Sect Compound.
As my eyes heal I can see the mushroom cloud racing into the upper atmosphere, and everything in front of me is perfectly level. It’s all destroyed, almost to the horizon. Even the trees behind me have been knocked over by the force of the blast. The Dragons look a little rough, so I go feed them a Regeneration pill right away, before giving them to all the other Lycans, except Beta John who is already healed.
"Moon Goddess, what was that? What exactly came next in this brilliant plan of yours, the Sect we were going to investigate no longer exists." John breathes.
"That’s easy, I’ve got the relic piece here, it’ll lead me to the other piece and we can just pick it up out of the rubble. The storage rings should have survived, they did last time." I nod my head and shake the tingles of healing flesh from my arms before walking towards the epicenter of the blast.
The shard is still leading me towards this location, so the relic piece should have survived. Eventually the feeling begins to pull down and I realize it’s below me, in an underground room. I look around for assistancein my search, but everyone else is still standing where they were, just staring at me.
"Found it. Right here, but under my feet somewhere." I call, waving then over. The original form of the rubble is hard to discern and some of the rock is melted, but I find the entry to the basement easily enough. This must have been the vault, some of the defensive barriers are still in effect. Not enough to keep me out, but enough that the room didn’t collapse.
The piece we’re looking for is on a dias in the back of the room, and I pull it into my ring for safekeeping before looking through the rest of the contents. They’ve got some really good stuff in here.
There’s a very injured cultivator in the corner, fumbling for a pill bottle.
"Are you the Sect Master here?" I ask, walking over to him and throwing a Regeneration pill in his mouth.
"You’re a monster. What did we ever do to you to deserve this? Do you know what you’ve done?" he coughs a mouthful of leftover blood out of his lungs.
"Your men attacked us first. Kill the extras and capture the child, those were their orders if I recall."
"A few cultivators for a priceless relic is a small price to pay. Do you even know what it is?" He snaps at me.
"Enlighten me." I smile, seeing his face turn red.
"It’s a recording of every Divine Spell of the Dragon Gods. No greater treasure exists in any Immortal Plane."
He’s right, that is a treasure well worth a few cultivators and their compound. But I should probably phrase it more delicately. He is a bit traumatized at the moment.
"Such knowledge is not for the laymen. Be thankful that the Dark Goddess saw fit to send someone as merciful as myself, and do not come after us." I tell him and head back up the stairs.
There’s a lot more cultivators than I expected up here, and the atmosphere is pretty tense. I wonder what’s got them all riled up with each other? Everyone seems to be mad at everyone.
[What’s going on?] I link Beta John and he turns to look at me in relief.
[They’re all after the relic. We should go before they realize you have it]
"You, girl, was there a flat black disc piece in the basement?" A cultivator asks me and I shake my head.
"Just an empty room and a very injured Sect Master, but he will likely be healed soon, so I should be going." I respond.
"Damn, we were too late. Find the Divine Cultivator." He calls and everyone spreads out.
That’s our cue to flee, and we start heading down the mountain range towards where the shards I currently possess think the last piece is.
"I can’t believe you did that." Kendra says.
"I know, right? I totally thought we were going to have a hard time getting the shard. But it only took a few minutes and I didn’t even need help." I smile. The response seems to have caused a fatal error in her brain, as she simply stopped moving mid step and fell over, having to pick herself up off the ground.
"No more dark humor today, you’re breaking the Dragons." John says, ruffling my hair.
"Sorry. The effect actually wasn’t supposed to be like that, I just wanted to blast a chunk out of the Sect but I miscalculated. You can add that to the notes. Or burn them and pretend you never saw anything, whichever you prefer."
News of the explosion beats us to the next town, or it’s possible they could see it from here. It was a pretty ridiculous size after all. They’re not letting anyone in or out until they know what is going on, so we decide to camp outside in the cool expanding house the Lycans own. The idea is that hiding in plain sight will let us blend in and get news of the aftermath without raising suspicions.
After changing into casual clothes and eating, we decide to go check out the rumors. I’ve got a wide array of disguise and polymorphism pills with me, so it should be safe enough. The Divine senses of Beta John confirm that all six major racial groups are present and undisguised. Shifters, Seraphim, Nephilim, Demons, Dragons and Humans.
In light of this, we’re not going to try to hide our races, and the Priestesses will be staying in the house, as they would be harder to explain if they were found disguised. So the teams will be pairs of the warriors with their faces disguised doing the official job, while John takes me along incognito to get information.
To confuse the cultivators that might have noticed me coming out of the storage room, I will be concealing my cultivation to early Core Formation as well as disguising my face. The change in my species should explain the feeling of Immortality when someone inevitably notices, and being near John’s more powerful aura will also help blur mine.
