Mage And Wolf -
Chapter 210
Chapter 210: Chapter 210
Information about what’s happening to Earth? Forget the relic shards, this is the important stuff. I call for another round of drinks and move over to his table to have a good conversation, joined by the man who had accidental ended up outside Houston. Poor guy, they shot his dog. A giant Demonic dog, and they shot it with a huge robot, but still.
"In the Beast Worlds of the Immortal Planes there is a war going on. The animal gods and the Titan Gods are battling for supremacy. They’ve locked down travel to prevent ambushes but both sides are working on ways around that restriction, often through undiscovered Mortal Realm Worlds the other side might not be guarded against." The man informs me.
"So the wave of Magical Beasts?"
"More than likely an army intended to surprise the Titans at some point." He nods his head, seeing that I understand.
"Too late for that, there’s giants coming out of portals all over the planet too." I sigh.
"The force of opening so many, and sending many powerful beings through must have upset the balance of your world. Is it starting to draw in increasing amounts of energy?" he asks, curious.
"Fast enough that it has collapsed more than one pocket dimension and caused massive Earthquakes in an Intermediate world between Mortal and Immortal Planes in balance." I confirm for him.
"Sounds like they’re intending on converting your world into a war zone. Where else have the portals opened to?"
"A bunch of Mortal cultivation worlds, countless pocket dimensions created within Mortal and Immortal worlds, and at least five different Immortal Plane Dragon Worlds. They said that they were sent, so I think the Dragon Gods are intervening on my planet, not just giving it up to the Titans and the Beasts."
"If it wasn’t such a weak Realm, I’d love to be there. A three way battle between the Great Pantheons? If it doesn’t destroy that Mortal Realm entirely it will be the most epic battle in millenia." A chorus of agreement circles the tavern at this proclamation, though most don’t sound at all eager to go see it firsthand.
"What about the Human Pantheon? Are they stepping in to save the humans?" Another patron asks, emotionally invested in the story.
"Not yet. But then the humans of my world worship so many different ones I’m not sure any of them have noticed that there’s a problem." The man with the Lion pelt on his shoulders gets a twinkle in his eyes at this, maybe he’s intending to inform someone? He feels like an Immortal Realm cultivator to me, but he might know people, since he is capable of getting himself around between Realms. He made it here from Earth after all.
"What brings you out here then? You don’t seem to be running from the trouble at home." He asks.
"The Dragon Council wants us to find a long lost relic, an Onyx disc broken into three large sections, and maybe a few smaller fragments. They called us all personally, so we really couldn’t refuse." Jasmine informs him on our behalf.
Talk in the tavern turns to Dragon relics they’ve heard of or sensed over the years, and everyone in our group is taking notes. Many of them clearly aren’t what we’re looking for, but a few seem promising. One even referred us back to the Rose Glass Sect, which we just came from. To me that’s a promising sign that one of these other leads might be on track and the rest of the relic might be in this Realm.
Plus, I still feel the pull from the relic piece that we do have, pointing me somewhere in the direction of the mountains. The locals say that there are a number of Sects that way, but mostly Demon Cultivators, so we should be careful. Beyond the mountains is a vast desert that few willingly cross. That also sounds like a great hiding place to many of us, so it’s suggested that we try our luck there if the more solid leads don’t work out.
The next morning we compile our notes over breakfast and start heading for the location that the fragment we have is indicating. It’s definitely towards the mountains somewhere, but it’s not easy to guess exactly how far, so all we can do is run. We’re all more than powerful enough to keep up a jogging pace all day though, so that’s how we set out, everyone pretending to be human, just cultivators out for a jog between cities.
We considered just flying low in human form, a convenient perk of Immortal cultivation, but that too would attract attention with such a big group. Also, we’re all abnormally fast, having an advantage over the humans to begin with and having Divine Realm Cultivators with us. Plus, Running through the trees is just plain more fun. Even the Dragons agree.
In only a few hours we were reaching the mountains, where we were informed there were many Sect Compounds, so we slowed, not wanting to miss anything. I had the piece to guide me, but the Dragons can sense the relic too, and that might be more reliable.
"There’s sentries nearby." Beta John whispers a few steps later. I focus on the flow of energy and I can see them, hidden in the trees, but their camouflage abilities are still causing a minor disturbance. Three sentries, all human, all in the Immortal Realm.
"Want me to take care of them?" I ask and he tilts his head in curiosity, the gesture reminding me of a confused dog. Then he nods, so I take a sidestep at the next tree, moving out of sight and activating Shadow Meld. Immortals can see through the skill without much trouble, but it will be enough for me to take them by surprise and paralyze them.
The skill doesn’t even need a strike, just a touch to transfer energy to take effect, and I could poetically do it without even that now that I can see their energy flows. I’ll have to test the theory later.
