Mage And Wolf -
Chapter 209
Chapter 209: Chapter 209
The direction seems to be towards a mountain range, but we don’t want to stumble into something unforseen so we stop at the edge of the city when it starts to get dark in this world. Not that there’s too many things in this world that could take out our group, but it’s best to know what we’re getting into.
"There’s an Inn with a Wolf in the sign, why don’t we rest the evening there?" I suggest.
"For sure, but regular clothes and hide the non human appearance. If we’re going to learn anything, we will need to blend in with the crowd, and I haven’t seen a single non human since we arrived." The usually silent Priestess suggests.
That could prove difficult, as I am not wearing any normal clothes under these Robes. Instead I move to a dead end alley and direct the Lycans to block the exit while I quickly hide my ears and tail before changing into the Shadowed Blade Sect uniform. The more feminine dress version of the Taoist Robes, not the martial artists robes most actually wear, but we’re supposed to be blending in, and a tiny Tomboy might not fit as well.
It only takes a moment, and when I return the Priestesses are in casual dresses and matching cardigans, looking like a pair of spinster sisters or a ladies maids.
"Excellent. Let’s go get rooms and settle into the tavern to meet some new people." John winks, shifting from business to casual now that he’s back in human form. I must say, he was much more handsome when he was in Lycan form. This human face leaves much to be desired, like someone melted him in the sun and left his face slightly deformed.
"I’ve got some high quality regeneration pills if you’d like." I say when he catches me looking and all the Lycans laugh.
"It’s a curse, to ensure he never cheats on his mate. Only female Lycans see his face like that." One of the others points out.
"Oh, I’ve likely got something for that too, but your mate would never forgive you."
"Never forgive me? What about you?" John laughs.
"Everyone loves me, she’d get over it." I stuck my tongue out at him and his pack members can’t contain their amusement anymore.
"She’s got a point. You’d never live it down, but the Omega Princess would be forgiven by dinner time."
"What does that even mean? How can you be an Omega and a Princess at the same time?" our formerly quiet companion asks. I’ve got to force those two to properly introduce themselves eventually. It wasn’t a big deal when I thought this would only take a day, but now it’s getting inconvenient. It doesn’t help that the Lycans just call them Priestess either.
"You see, Lycan Omegas are born that way, they’ve got a special nature to their power and aura that protects them from harm by making it hard to stay mad or hold grudges against them. But she’s become a High Priestess, best friend to the Nephilim Princess, friends with the Mortal Realm Avatars and the Divine Realm Council asked for her by name. She’s definitely above a regular Omega in social standing, so Omega Princess." John explains the logic.
"Best friend might be overstating it. They knew each other for maybe a week." The lead Priestess says.
"But does Princess Amanda have any problem making new best friends, Priestess Jasmine?" a Lycan asks in a taunting tone. Score, I got a name for her. But now she looks mad.
"Who would be friends with that Princess?" The disgruntled Priestess asks. I guess they have some sort of history.
"The three of them were in the same class starting from nursery school, an effort to bring nobles from the various races into contact so they can form relationships with the people they’ll be dealing with in the future. Amanda was Queen Bee of the class, and Jasmine’s dad was the lowest ranking noble whose kids were allowed to attend." The quiet Priestess explains.
That makes sense. Rich kids love to flaunt their status when they’re little. An extension of the hero worship they bestow upon their parents at that age.
"Baby Alphas and the girls with a crush on them like to do the same thing. Establishing the pack hierarchy." I smile back and the closest Lycan laughs.
"I’ll bet you had it bad too. Most Omegas drop out of school early due to the bullying. Inside the pack house they’ve got the ranking Lycans present to keep the pups in line." He says.
"I went to the human school. When I was a kid the Realm was isolated, no cultivators and the humans didn’t know about us, they thought we were a myth. But the Alpha let me try out for pack warrior, and that got pretty rough at times with the other young Lycans." I explain.
"The humans didn’t know non humans exist? You’ve got to tell me that story." Jasmine insists, overhearing the last bit of our conversation.
We check into the hotel quickly, not needing to actually deposit anything in the two large rooms, and head to the tavern for a beverage before continuing the story.
"You see, the Realm I was born in just recently awakened when the portals to other Realms started opening. Before that there was very little energy in the air, call it Qi, Mana, Mortal energy whatever you prefer. But the fact was, that even if a cultivator came to the world by chance they’d be limited to the foundation Realm, and it was almost impossible for anyone living there to cultivate, even if they knew how. We had Mages and witches, but only the strongest could cast spells unaided.
There are Lycans, Werewolves and Vampires too, but because everyone was essentially stuck at Foundation level 1, they didn’t have the power to risk exposing themselves and having the humans begin to hunt them again."
"Didn’t the Dragon Gods do anything about the situation?" Jasmine asks.
"Before the portals opened, nobody had ever seen a Dragonkin and the Dragons had gone extinct or left the Realm thousands of years earlier. We couldn’t contact the Gods, even the Werewolves only had one every few generations who could talk to the Moon Goddess."
Our talk has attracted the attention of a cultivator at the next table. "Do you know of a place called Houston? I went to a Realm only a year or so ago and was met by Huge Robots that killed my Hellhound. It limited me to Foundation Realm and my pet to Tier 1 magical beast level power."
"A city with a warm Climate, right next to an Ocean with lukewarm waters?" I ask.
"Yes, millions of humans there, and they knew nothing. Nothing at all. They tried to lock me up like I was the crazy one." He says, drawing even more attention.
"A portal to the Dragon Realms opened in the city not long after they started appearing. The city is under control of the Dragon Gods now. When I left the planet had changed enough that you could cultivate to peak Condensation, and it’s still gaining energy density, so you might be able to manage Core Formation level power there at this point."
"Your story sounded fantastical, but someone else has been there and can verify so it must be true. Did you get many visitors after the portal opened?" John asks.
"Not just one, they opened everywhere. Tens of thousands of them, leading anywhere and everywhere. The locals are doing their best to keep them closed though, but it can be a losing battle. The entire planet was flooded with magical beasts when the first round of portals opened."
"I may have information for you." says an old man sitting in the corner with a Lion skin over his shoulders.
"About the portals and what’s happening to your world."
