Chapter 92: Chapter 92

Winter had been chatting with Patricia Jung over a menial topic. She kept finding one topic after another to keep the conversation going so Sebastian and Lucien would have more time.

She kept glancing over their direction for the first two minutes, but after that, they moved to another spot that she couldn’t observe.

’I hope that’s a good sign. Maybe they are going to talk about business deals,’ Winter thought.

"So, Winter, about that man that comes with you," Patricia mentioned, and Winter was forced to ignore her worry for Sebastian and Lucien in favor of Patricia. She didn’t have much connection with this young heiress, and their business didn’t cross as well.

But it was always good to make friends. Who knew what opportunities lie ahead, right?

"Yes, what about him?" Winter baited Patricia. It was obvious that Patricia was interested, but she must’ve been trying to be careful about it.

"Is he your new husband? I didn’t know you would marry a year after Aiden’s death. It’s so... not you," Patricia mentioned. "I thought you and Aiden are so in love."

Winter smiled bitterly.

It was normal for a stranger like Patricia to question it, especially when Aiden always blatantly claimed that he was happily married. He even dragged Winter around at times, showing these elites the woman who had stolen his heart.

It was a nice gesture and she wished that Sebastian would do that to her as well. Though, it couldn’t be done right now, because nobody in this circle knew about him, at least not yet.

In only two years, Sebastian would become a prominent figure in the elite circle, and Winter would fade in obscurity as he kept on forbidding her to join this kind of gathering.

Winter smiled at Patricia and replied, "Well, you see, after my husband’s death, I have to find a quick replacement as a CEO for my company. I cannot let it fall, and I cannot dwell into sadness because I don’t want my husband’s inheritance to be abandoned."

"So... you married that man only as a replacement?"

Winter nodded without hesitation.

"Wow, I mean, I know Aiden’s death is so sudden and messy, but to think that you wouldn’t end yourself after his death—Oh, s-sorry, my bad, I-I didn’t mean to say it like that," Patricia stammered because she misspoke. Winter didn’t seem angry, but Patricia was still uncomfortable, so she quickly changed the topic. "How old is he?"

"Twenty-seven. He’s closer to your age, Patricia," Winter said.

"Twenty-seven is very young. Um, not to be fussy, but... are you sure he can replace Aiden? Leading a realty company is not easy."

"He’s good at it. He was a CEO in a branch company before marrying me, so he always has that talent in him," Winter said objectively, knowing it was the truth. "Besides, don’t you think he is handsome? I’m sure our heiress here would like to find a talented man who can help her run the company once you take over, right?"

Patricia raised her brow. She wasn’t an idiot that didn’t understand the hint given by Winter. But for her to offer her husband when they just got married was very strange.

"He’s handsome indeed, and I’m sure that most of the guests also think the same," Patricia hummed for a moment before shooting straight to the point. "But why are you offering him to me? Is he a rent boy?"

Winter wanted to chuckle, because that might be the case with Sebastian.

He was her rent boy, the man who married her not because of love, but money.

"He’s not a rent boy. But, well, none of us are actually in love. I’m just planning him a safe way out in case we get a divorce. I think you are a perfect woman for him too. He has all the experience to run a company, he’s handsome, and also closer to your age."

Patricia was amused, but also horrified.

This woman was well-known in the elite circle as the devoted, sweet wife of Aiden Kirk. It was shocking to hear her speaking of such cruel things, as if her new husband meant nothing to her.

’Has she always been this cold?’ Patricia pondered. ’Or maybe her heart dies alongside Aiden, that’s why she lost her humanity?’

Patricia wasn’t interested in Winter’s new husband. He might be handsome, tall, and tanned, which was her type. He could also marry her as he had proven himself as a capable young man.

However...

Patricia saw them when they first entered the venue, and it was crystal clear that Winter’s new husband was very possessive of her.

He looked at everyone—men and women—with the same wary gaze. Whenever one of them leered at Winter, he would glare at them as a warning.

Patricia found him very cute, because his gaze would soften whenever he looked at Winter and he would smile meekly, like an obedient puppy. If he had a tail, he would undoubtedly wag his tail in front of Winter.

’That man is truly in love with Winter. But how could she not realize it?’ Patricia wondered. ’Or maybe she realizes it, she just doesn’t care...’

"Your husband only has his eyes on you. Are you sure you’re not going to regret your choice of offering him up to the women in here?" Patricia asked. "They are all ruthless, you know."

Patricia was right. The women in this circle were just as vicious as the men, so if she fed Sebastian into those female wolves, a handsome young man like him would probably be eaten clean by them in just a month or so.

And for Camilla? She wouldn’t be able to do anything to avenge Sebastian, because she was dealing with powerful people, the top one percent.

Sebastian had no social standing yet, and he was practically hiding behind her for now, at least until he made a name for himself.

She could’ve proposed the idea to the women in this elite circle, but for some reason, she pitied him a bit.
