Chapter 33: Chapter 33

"I told you I don’t feel hungry," Winter continued parroting what Sebastian told her. "Stop nagging me. I’m not in the mood to fight."

Winter was satisfied with Sebastian’s reaction. But she knew his hurt expression was fake.

Everything he did was fake, and she guessed he wouldn’t keep this kind and loving husband charade for too long.

’He will be mad after this.’ she thought. ’Go on, Sebastian Saenz, show me how bad your temper truly is. I want you to scream at me, or you can even hit me if you want, so I can get an uncontested divorce on the grounds of domestic violence,’ Winter had a malicious plan. She didn’t mind getting hit by this bastard if that meant she’d get all of Aiden’s wealth back.

After all, she already went through a literal suicide, so a punch in the face wouldn’t faze her.

Sebastian gulped nervously. He wasn’t an idiot, either. He knew damn well that Winter was just mimicking what he did in the past.

Truthfully, he wanted to try all of Winter’s cooking. He knew she was a good cook, and her homemade food made him water.

He also appreciated what Winter did for him.

He always paid attention to her and sometimes secretly watched over her when she did menial activities, including cooking.

But he deliberately refused to touch anything she made because his mother always told him that Winter was trying to seduce him.

Camilla said that Winter was an old bitch who desperately wanted to sleep with him and that his resolution to ignore Winter would falter the moment he touched any of Winter’s food.

So he tried his best to refrain from eating her food by acting coldly in front of Winter because he knew his mother was right.

The moment he touched the food Winter made with her love, he too would falter and couldn’t hide his feelings.

And now, he was reaping what he had sown.

Sebastian took a deep breath to calm down. He knew what Winter wanted.

She wanted him to snap, get angry, and give her a legal way to separate from him. So he tried to smile despite the uncomfortable feeling in his heart and said, "But you haven’t eaten anything since last night. You must be hungry."

Winter frowned.

Of course, she was hungry. She had only eaten a few cookies last night, but that wasn’t the response that Winter wanted.

’Why isn’t he angry? This isn’t like him. The Sebastian Saenz I know would definitely snap and hopefully slap me hard enough for me to report him to the police,’ Winter thought.

She remembered that moment when Sebastian had said the same thing to her. She could only lower her head, feeling ashamed that she had done such a meaningless task of cooking for her husband, thinking that Sebastian would appreciate it just like Aiden did.

But she continued cooking for him, hoping Sebastian’s heart would eventually soften.

Unfortunately, that wish never came true.

Now that Sebastian wasn’t acting as she expected, Winter no longer had any motivation to bait Sebastian into getting angry. She looked at him with a colder gaze than before and said, "I’m not hungry for that sorry excuse of food you make. I can make something better for myself."

"I can make something—anything that you like. I can follow a recipe from the internet," Sebastian offered, even though he was already offended by Winter’s comment just now.

Winter grew frustrated with Sebastian’s resilience. This man was far more persistent than she had expected, and as her patience wore thin, her words became meaner. She remembered one sentence Sebastian said that had made her cry: "Then maybe you can feed it to the stray dogs outside. Not sure if they will eat it, though."

Sebastian’s smile finally disappeared as he was also on the verge of snapping at his wife, who kept disrespecting him.

"I’m not here to fight with you in the morning, Winter. I just want us to have breakfast together."

"And that will never happen," Winter replied curtly. "You should finish whatever breakfast you have and go to work. I didn’t marry you to be a useless CEO in my company."

Winter walked away from the kitchen, and Sebastian followed her. "Where are you going?"

"To the office. I have a meeting with someone," Winter replied.

"Someone?" Sebastian frowned. He didn’t know what Winter was planning, but he needed to know to protect her in case anyone tried to hurt her, even at the office. "Who is this someone you are talking about?"

"None of your business. It’s my company. I can do whatever I want," Winter said, without sparing a glance at Sebastian.

"You can’t just make an appointment without informing me. I am the CEO! Besides, I can help you. Just tell me what you need, and I’ll get it done," Sebastian said, but his wife took none of his words seriously.

Winter ignored Sebastian, who kept following her. She walked to the front door, put on her heels, and was ready to leave the penthouse.

Sebastian grabbed her wrist to stop her and demanded, "Answer me, Winter. You can’t just ignore me like this."

Winter slowly turned her head towards Sebastian, and with a calm, almost unfeeling voice, she replied, "Isn’t it enough that I let you be the CEO? Why do you need to pester me about everything I’m doing?"

’Obviously, because I am your HUSBAND!’ Sebastian screamed in his heart, but those weren’t the words that came out of his mouth. "You’re not well-versed in the company’s problems. I don’t want you to make a wrong move."

Winter scoffed, knowing that Sebastian was just looking down on her. "Don’t worry, Sebastian Saenz. I may not have any experience handling a CEO’s job, but I’m experienced enough not to make any stupid mistakes. Aiden taught me enough about the office, at least more than you ever will."

"So don’t look at me as if I’m a stupid woman who will suck your dick and beg to be saved. I can handle myself just fine."
