Chapter 28: Chapter 28

Sebastian made himself comfortable in his new bed. The bed wasn’t as comfortable as he was accustomed to, so he planned to replace it with a better one tomorrow.

As he began to drift off to sleep, his phone suddenly rang, and he frowned upon seeing the Caller’s ID.

Sebastian sighed and picked it up.

"What is it, Mom?"

"It took you eight seconds to pick up my call. Do you not love your mother anymore?" Camilla’s voice came through the line abruptly.

Sebastian rolled his eyes.

It was the same old shit whenever they spoke on the phone. She always insisted he pick up the call within five seconds, or she’d complain.

"Why are you calling me so late, Mom?" Sebastian cut to the chase.

"I want to know if you’ve spoken to that stupid woman about the penthouse. I want to live in that penthouse as soon as possible," Camilla said. "If she refuses to give it to you, then just tell her that she should have filial piety to her mother-in-law."

"I’ve decided to take the penthouse, Mom," Sebastian reported. Though he sounded casual, he was actually serious, knowing his answer would affect Winter’s future. "I went to check the penthouse after work and realized it’s very convenient because it’s close to the office. I also like how it has a great view from the balcony."

"You—"Camilla was momentarily speechless. Of course, she couldn’t get mad at her son, especially when he gave a logical answer. "But your mother wants that penthouse..."

"Winter already told me that you can get the mansion instead, with all the workers included," Sebastian said.

Camilla still preferred that penthouse because it seemed cool to live in a luxurious Manhattan penthouse like what she saw on TV.

She got rich because of her business as a loan shark, but the penthouse was unnecessarily expensive, and she didn’t want to poke a hole in her wallet. Renting a penthouse was a humiliation for a rich lady like her.

So she thought she could’ve just kicked Winter out of that penthouse and had it for herself.

But now that her son had taken fancy of it, she’d sound childish if she demanded it from her son instead.

As for the mansion, it looked amazing, of course. However, it was far from downtown New York, and she only wanted a mansion to show her family and friends that she owned one.

’Should I just take the mansion instead?’ Camilla was debating for a while. ’Maybe I should just live with my son in the penthouse?’

Camilla initially thought it was a good idea until she realized she’d be too embarrassed to bring her boyfriends into the penthouse while her son was around.

She was still a very civilized and educated lady, after all.

"Ugh, I don’t like that mansion..."

"You’re the one who picked it, Mom."

"I know, but it’s only for your wedding," Camilla sighed. "Alright, I am a good mother, so I won’t press you further. I’ll take that mansion instead."

Sebastian felt relieved. It was difficult to trick his mother, but at least he could secure Winter’s penthouse and preserve all her memories with Aiden.

"But are you sure you don’t want to kick her out?" Camilla asked.

"Why should I kick her out? She is my wife."

"Well, she’s your ’wife’. But you know she’s not your real wife. You can divorce her later, after you seize all of her assets, and then marry a real woman who’s young, virgin, and also smart."

Sebastian’s lips tightened. He refrained from telling his mother that Winter would be his one and only.

Even if everything was irreparable and Winter demanded a divorce, he’d rather stay single for the rest of his life.

But if he said that, his mother would target Winter in a violent way.

"I don’t want to kick her out. She’s not a bother to me," Sebastian said. "She’s very nice to me, Mom."

"Nice? Hah! A greedy, stupid bitch like her can’t be considered nice. She acquired all of her wealth through marriage to a rich man. But she has no real talent. She simply used her pussy to be rich," Camilla sneered. "She doesn’t deserve any of it."

"And what about me? Do you think I deserve it?"

"Of course! You’re smart, capable, handsome. After Aiden’s death, you have the right to own everything! Because you’re..." Camilla paused briefly before swiftly changing the subject. "If you want to stay with her, then fine. But I suggest you live in a separate bedroom. I don’t want her trying to manipulate you into having your child out of desperation."

’Oh, I would kill to have a chance to fuck my wife right now,’ Sebastian sighed. "We’re living in a separate bedroom right now, Mom."

"Oh, good! That means you live in the master bedroom, right? Do you like the view from your room?"

Sebastian looked around the small guest bedroom, then peered out the window to see rows of skyscrapers.

He remembered the master bedroom had a view of the Manhattan Bridge.

"Well, the view from my room is amazing," Sebastian said. "And the bedroom itself is spacious enough for me."

"That’s fantastic! Oh, you should tell her to clean the toilet or do your laundry. She’s a stupid woman, but I’m sure she can do that kind of lowly stuff," Camilla giggled, relishing the thought of Winter getting dragged down until she knew her place.

Sebastian got annoyed at his mother. He had been patient enough to listen to her bullshit, but it drained the joy out of him whenever his mother talked shit about his wife.

"I’m tired, Mom. If you have nothing else to say, then I’ll hang up," Sebastian said. "You can move into the mansion tomorrow. I’ll handle the rest."

"Aww, my son is tired. Go and rest in YOUR penthouse then. Good night~."

Beep.

Sebastian massaged his temples as he got a headache thinking about his mother. He didn’t remember his mother having so much control over him in his past life.

Now that he snapped out of his stupidity, he realized how twisted she was and how he had normalized what his mother said about Winter to the point of hating her for no reason.
