Chapter 26: Chapter 26

Winter was a little surprised that Sebastian was far more agreeable than usual. She was ready to argue with him if he didn’t want to give up the master bedroom.

In her previous life, she hadn’t dared to fight back when intimidated by Camilla and Sebastian. So, she had to give up the master bedroom and sleep in the much smaller guest bedroom.

Winter didn’t know what had gotten into Sebastian today, but she didn’t want to miss the chance to lay out more of the house rules she had in mind.

"Second, I don’t want you to invite any other woman into this penthouse. This place is mine, so if you want to fuck another woman, do it in a hotel," Winter said casually, as if what she said just now was perfectly normal.

Sebastian almost dropped the wine bottle in his hand when Winter said that. He stared at Winter, dumbfounded.

"What did you say just now?"

"I said, if you want to fuck another woman, go and do it in a hotel, not in this penthouse," Winter repeated her sentence without a pause. "What’s with your face? Shouldn’t you be happy that I’m allowing you to cheat? I’m sure you already have many women’s numbers saved on your phone."

"You—!" Sebastian was hurt. He got up from the sofa and walked towards Winter, standing menacingly in front of her. "Why do you think so lowly of me? We are married, and I only want to have sex with you, and only you. There’s no other woman between us."

Sebastian looked so sincere, as if he had never planned to cheat on her.

But Winter had seen enough. He also said many sweet things to her before, and she knew they were all lies, including this one.

’You will cheat on me, Sebastian Saenz. Even if you haven’t done it yet for now,’ Winter said in her heart. ’So, stop being a hypocrite.’

"I don’t have time to listen to your bullshit. You will cheat sooner or later."

Winter’s words sounded more like a mandate than a prediction, as if she was absolutely certain that he would eventually have an affair with another woman.

Sebastian clenched his fists in frustration.

He had a lot he wanted to tell Winter about his affair in his previous life. He wanted to defend himself, but he couldn’t risk revealing too much.

"Is this your way of cheating on me instead? Do you have another man?" Sebastian accused. "Since you accused me first without any evidence, it’s usually a sign of insecurity, that you might be the one who did it."

"And what makes you think I want to fuck another man?" Winter rolled her eyes.

"Because you obviously resent me for no reason, and maybe this is just your way of telling me that there’s another bastard in our marriage," Sebastian said.

Winter poked Sebastian’s chest with her index as she replied, "The only bastard in our marriage is you. I don’t plan to remarry after we get a divorce. I don’t even plan to date. You men are trash."

Sebastian wasn’t sure if he should feel relieved knowing Winter wouldn’t cheat. Her words indirectly implicated him as the main perpetrator of her twisted perspective about men.

"Okay, the third and the last house rule is..." Winter paused for a moment. She sidestepped Sebastian and strode towards the table full of trivial items and framed pictures of her and Aiden. Leaning on the table, she said, "I forbid you to change anything in this penthouse, including all my memorabilia with Aiden. These are my treasures. I’ll kick you out the moment you touch anything."

Sebastian gave a self-deprecating smile; he knew he had no place in Winter’s heart. He wanted to replace Aiden completely.

After all, Winter’s future would be with him, not with that dead man.

But Sebastian also knew how much Winter loved her first husband, especially when he treated her like crap in her previous life.

It was logical for Winter to choose Aiden over him, but he still couldn’t help but get bitter about it.

After calming himself down, he turned around and shrugged. "I’d prefer to have our pictures everywhere, but I know that’s not happening. So don’t worry, I won’t change anything."

...

’Has the alcohol seeped into his brain?’ That was the first question that popped into Winter’s mind. Sebastian was too agreeable to her liking, making her wonder if he was planning something dangerous. ’I have to watch my back. I can’t trust him yet... if ever.’

"You’re smarter than you look, I give you that," Winter said, and that backhanded compliment made Sebastian snort.

"Isn’t that why you married me in the first place? Because I’m handsome?"

"Oh, trust me, there are a lot of handsome men out there. I married you because you have the talent to maintain Aiden’s company," Winter said before she walked to the kitchen.

Sebastian followed her from behind and saw her putting cookies in a basket she had brought from outside into a jar.

"Did you go on a picnic?" Sebastian asked casually, trying to probe for more information. He still felt jealous at the thought of Winter finding another man to replace him. "So, who’s the bastard lucky enough to get cookies from you?"

"Can you not say stupid stuff for one second?" Winter rolled her eyes. "My sister baked these cookies for me. I went to my mother’s house to clear up a few misunderstandings between us."

"Your mom?" Sebastian frowned, trying to recall Winter’s parents, but no matter how hard he tried, he couldn’t remember Winter’s mom’s face or even her name.

’Wait, do I know any of her family members or friends?’ Sebastian pondered. ’I only know that she was married to Aiden, and that’s it.’

Sebastian was hit hard by the realization that he knew nothing about Winter, even after two years of marriage.

He didn’t even know his mother-in-law.

Winter saw Sebastian’s confused face and sneered, "What? Do you not remember your mother-in-law?"
