Chapter 125: A Favor
Chapter 125: A Favor
Nina sighed while looking at her phone. She went to the rooftop to call Andrew, but she was standing there for an hour and still couldn’t decide to dial his number.
She wanted to take the job Lory gave her, but she wasn’t sure if Luke would agree with the interview. It was just a few months ago when she reappeared in front of her friends after betraying them, and she couldn’t tell if they trust her completely.
And she didn’t want Andrew to know about the company’s status.
She sighed again and bit her lip. She had to try or she would regret it. She thought to herself.
"Maybe I should try calling Alora, and not Luke." She whispered.
She sighed again and finally decided to make a call.
"Hello? H–Hi! It’s me, Nina. I have a favor to ask." She started.
It was quiet on the other line until she heard a sigh.
"Is this about Luke?" Alora asked.
"Yeah. I just got a job and my boss wanted an interview with Luke. I know you both hate the media, but it’s my job." She said.
There was another silence again. She felt a little nervous talking to Alora on the phone, and she became anxious when she’s so quiet.
"Are you asking me as a friend or as part of that company?"
She took a deep breath before giving an answer. "Well, both. I think. If I’m not your friend, I won’t ask you."
"Then, I’ll talk to Luke."
"Do you think he’ll agree?"
"Maybe. If I tell him to."
"Will you?"
She heard Alora sigh. "Fine. But this comes with a price."
She frowned. Alora would never ask something in return.
"This is new. What is it?"
She heard Alora sigh on the other line, making her more confused. Alora was suffering from multiple personality disorder and having this mental problem affected her from expressing emotions.
"Alora, you’re making me nervous. You never ask for a favor. Especially from me." She said.
"It’s not about me or you, or Andrew and Luke. It’s about the kids."
"The kids? Is it our kids or is this about Alira and Caden?"
"About Lucas and Brie."
She was surprised. It never came to her mind that they had to talk about her daughter and Lucas. Did anything happen? She thought to herself.
"What about Brie?"
"Well, Brie keeps on calling Lucas and she also visits the park often. I’m wondering if you know about it."
She didn’t answer for a moment. She was trying to remember if Brie asked her about coming to the park. But she couldn’t recall anything. Did Brie sneak out again? She wondered.
"I’m sorry, Alora. I was too busy lately so I can’t remember if Brie told me about calling Lucas or going to the park. Don’t worry I will talk to Brie—"
"That’s not what I mean. I’m glad that it’s Brie. I want my kids to be friends with my best friend’s kid. You’re one of the people closest to me so it’ll be great if Lucas and Brie will one day marry."
She was shocked from Alora’s words. She was happy and honored that her friend liked Brie. But marriage? That was a bit early for them to decide their kids future.
"Alora, I understand what you meant. But I don’t think it’s for us to decide. They’re too young. Brie just turned five. I know you’re family believed in arrange marriage, but I’m sorry, it’s not for me." She politely declined.
She heard Alora chuckle. "I don’t know how to react with your words. I don’t even feel if I was offended or mad so you don’t need to apologize. I totally understand. I’m not asking for your daughter’s hand. As you said, they are still young. What I’m asking is for Brie to be with Lucas always. You know that he will be the heir to Wilson Group and I need some people that he can trust. I think Brie will be a great help to him in the future."
"Oh, I see. I think I overreact." She laughed. "But thank you. I will talk to Brie about. I’m not sure if he will understand, but I will try to explain it to her."
"Your daughter is smart. She will." Alora commented.
Before ending the call, Alora promised she would ask Luke about the interview. She assured her that he would agree with it.
After work, she was picked up by Andrew so they could go together to Brie’s school.
"Mommy! How’s first day of work?" Brie asked cheerfully.
"I had a great time. How about your day, baby?"
"Not too good." The little girl pouted.
"Oh, why? What happened?" She asked worried.
"Mommy, I told Lucas that I will marry him someday. But he turned me down."
She was taken aback. She didn’t expect those words from a five-year old kid, especially coming from her daughter.
But Andrew burst out laughing. They were seated at the back of the car on the way home.
"Stop it!" She glared at him.
Andrew tried his best to not make a sound and turned his face to the car’s window.
She held Brie’s hands and smiled at her.
"Brie, where did that come from? I mean, marry Lucas? Why did you suddenly ask him to marry you? You’re only five."
Brie shook her head. "Mommy, I like Lucas a lot."
"But you also like Alira, right? It’s the same. You like to be close to them because they are your friends. While growing up, you will meet a lot of people. You will meet the right man when you are a grown up woman."
She looked at Brie directly into her eyes to see if there were any confusion on her face. But she didn’t see any.
"Mommy, are you only allowed to like someone when you are older? Am I not free to like Lucas?"
"No, baby. You can like him and Alira."
"Mommy, they are both my friends. And I like them both. But I don’t want to marry Alira. I want Lucas. Isn’t it a different like?"
