Chapter 124: First Day

She looked at herself in the mirror, checking her appearance. It was her first day of work and she wanted to make an impression by dressing properly.

"Are you going to work or on a date?" Andrew teased.

She pouted. "Am I overdressed?"

Andrew chuckled. "I think they will understand. You’re my wife."

She was wearing a sheer white buttoned blouse paired with above the knee length skirt. She decided to wear a black pantyhose for her black pump from Balenciaga.

"Is that a new shoes?" He asked.

"Oh, it came yesterday. Your mom gave it to me." She smiled.

"She’s excited and happy for you."

"You all are. So I have to impress everyone and do good at work."

Andrew walked toward her and took her left hand. She was surprised when he put a ring on her finger.

"What’s this for?"

Andrew took a deep breath. "We haven’t register our marriage so wear this ring for now. Everyone should see that you are already taken."

She chuckled. "Are you worried that I will cheat on you?"

"No!"

"No?"

"W–Well, I already have a trauma"

She glared at him and then slapped his shoulder.

"Hey!"

"I’m just kidding. But I still want you to wear a ring. Look, I got one, too."

She smiled. "You better not take it off."

He nodded in agreement. "Oh! And we made this for you."

Andrew handed her a picture frame and she was surprised to see the photo.

"Brie and I took some photos together so I printed one for you. Make sure to put it on your desk."

She laughed. "You’re so cute."

She was happy. Her heart was full. She could never ask for anything else. At that moment, she had everything.

Andrew dropped her off to her office. He wanted to see where she would be working so he insisted to take her there.

"Text or call me. I’ll pick you up later."

"Are you sure? You’re not busy?"

Andrew smiled. "I will always have time for you and Brie."

She kissed him on the lips and then went inside the building. She was a bit nervous as she walked toward the front desk.

"Hi, I’m a new employee of Carter Media on the seventh floor. My name is—"

"Mrs. Katharina Cross?" The woman asked.

She nodded. "Yes, I am."

The woman seemed excited as she guided her to the elevator.

"I–I’m okay. You should stay in your post." She said because it looked like the woman would take her to Carter Media.

Entering Carter Media made her feel excited, but at the same time, she also had fear in her. She was scared to fail.

She already carry the name of Andrew and she didn’t want to ruin her husband’s reputation, especially the Cross Clan. She must not fail so she promised to work hard and take everything seriously.

"Nina!" Lory called.

She was surprised to see Lory as soon as she entered the office. The other employees all turned their gazes on her.

"Hi! Are you here to welcome me?" She smiled.

"Yes. But I need your help." Lory turned to everyone. "Guys, meeting room."

She wanted to sit at the back but Lory insisted that she stay beside her, and so she did.

"Everyone, this is Katharina Cross, our new assistant editor. She will be part of our creative team." Lory looked at her and nodded.

She stood in front and gave out her sweetest smile.

"Hi, I’m Katharina Sommers actually. I’m still divorced with my ex-husband so my last name as of now, is Sommers. This is my first job so I am hoping you all to guide me and let’s have fun together."

After her introduction, Lory gave them some documents.

"We have been asked to get an exclusive interview with Luke Wilson. This is a final warning from the headquarters."

Her eyes widened. She didn’t expect that her first day at work would be a bit complicated. She gulped when she looked around. Everyone was looking at her.

She slowly turned to Lory. "This will be your first task. We need to get that interview."

She sighed. "Can we have a talk first?"

Lory instructed the others to leave them. Nina noticed the meaningful gazes of her colleagues as they walked out of the meeting room.

"Really, Lory? You’re going to assign that task on my first day?"

"But you’re one of his friends. It’s hard enough to get close to Luke Wilson, what more to get an interview."

"Did you already have an idea about this interview before you asked me to work here?" She asked.

Lory shook her head. "I swear I didn’t know. The order was sent this morning. But I do know they asked because you’re here."

She frowned. "Who’s they?"

Lory was quiet for a moment then took a deep breath.

"Carter Media is owned by my grandfather. We’re just a small company under a big one. My grandfather lent me some money to start a broadcasting company, but he gave me five years to make it big. I know you had your investigation about us. In three years, we only got 5% credibility. I only have two years left to prove myself." Lory sighed.

She was still hesitant, but if she could help the company in any way, she would gladly do it.

"I don’t understand why you wanted an interview. And I am not comfortable with it. I mean, look at them." She said, looking at the people outside.

Their colleagues were obviously eavesdropping.

"Don’t worry about them. They were actually excited that you’re here. So please, I am a nobody. Luke Wilson will never accept an interview from us."

"I am also a nobody if it wasn’t for my husband. So I will have to talk to him about this." She answered.

Lory nodded. Her face was full of hope.

"I am the assistant editor, why would I have to do it, anyway."

Lory chuckled. "It’s just a position. But we basically do everything here because we can’t afford to hire more people."

She didn’t answer. She knew it was a small company, but she didn’t expect that it was already on the edge. And why didn’t they find out about Lory’s grandfather. Andrew didn’t mention about it either so he also had no idea.
