Chapter 123: My Worth
Chapter 123: My Worth
Andrew frowned. "What kind of job?"
Nina sighed deeply. "Well, I always hated the media, but guess what? I was hired by them. Carter Media."
Andrew sat on the swivel chair and pulled Nina to sit on his lap.
"Why did you accept it? Are you going to be happy doing what you hate?" He asked while playing the tip of her hair.
She pouted. "No one accepted my application except them. Those on my list rejected me. They just see me as the ex-wife of my soon-to-be husband. A girl who left her husband and came back with a kid."
Andrew chuckled.
"Are you making fun of me? It’s not funny! I’m serious." She ranted.
"Hey. I know it’s not a joke, but you said ex-wife of your soon-to-be husband. That’s funny. You’re still my wife. So regardless of what they say, there’s only one Mrs.Cross."
She smiled at Andrew’s statement. The feeling of annoyance vanished because of her husband. She gave him a kiss on the lips to show her gratitude.
"I love you." She whispered.
"Feel better?" He asked.
She nodded. "Can I ask you a favor?"
"Anything for you, my love."
"Can you buy me some clothes I can use for work?"
"Of course! This is your first job so I want you to enjoy it. But first, I’ll get the information about Carter Media."
While Andrew was calling Luke, she went outside to ask his secretary for coffee.
"Hi, can you bring two coffee to Mr.Cross’ office?"
The girl nodded. "Yes, madam."
Nina frowned. "Oh, don’t call me madam. Nina is fine."
"N–No, madam. You are our boss’ wife so I don’t think calling you by your first name is okay." The girl said nervously.
"I’m glad to hear someone call me his wife. The receptionist was a bit harsh." Nina chuckled.
She watched the girl walk toward the pantry so she followed. A lot of the employees were stealing glances at her and she could hear some whispers from them.
"Don’t mind them. We were all surprised to see Mr.Cross bring his wife into his office."
Her curiosity and confusion grew from the actions and words of Andrew’s employees.
"Am I bothering your busy day?" She asked.
The girl waves her hands. "No, madam. Our boss is very strict and serious with his work. We knew about you for a long time, but Mr.Cross never mentioned you to anyone until recently."
"Is that a problem?"
"No, no! Mr.Cross became lively. He always smiles and greets us every morning. His dark aura vanished and it was like he’s surrounded by light."
Nina laughed. "So, you mean he was a terror boss before?"
The girl bit her lip but eventually nodded.
"Don’t worry, I won’t tell him."
"Thank you, madam."
"Can I ask if you know a woman named Heather?"
The girl nodded. "Yes. Heather Green. She’s the secretary of Cross Realty Corporation."
She went back to Andrew’s office and saw him looking at his computer.
"Heather Green. Secretary of Cross Realty. You said you don’t know her." She said while giving Andeww his coffee.
"I really don’t know her name. Besides, Cross Realty is being managed by my sister. That Heather doesn’t work here."
"Then why is she here? I saw her earlier and she asked for you."
"She did?" Andrew frowned.
He took his phone and dialed a number.
"Why is your secretary here?"
He turned the speaker on so Nina could hear Seira’s answer.
"Heather? I asked her to pick up the documents you signed yesterday. Is there a problem?"
"Nothing. Nina misunderstood—"
"Hey!" Nina yelled.
Seira laughed on the other line.
"You’re jealous of Heather? Don’t be. That woman likes younger men. She’s into college students and not men who wear suits."
She blushed. "I’m not jealous, Seira. Your brother was just so full of himself."
"Don’t get jealous of just any woman. My twin brother is crazy in love with you."
"Enough. You talk like I’m not even here. Bye, Seira."
Andrew crossed his arms after the call.
"I find your jealousy cute and amusing. But I’m faithful to you, especially to Brie." He said.
Nina smiled and then sat on his lap.
"I know. I trust you. But not the women." She commented.
Andrew wrapped his arm around her waist while she planted small kisses on his lips.
"So, what do you think of Carter Media?" She asked.
"They seemed okay. We didn’t see anything unusual. But they’ve been wanting to get an interview with you."
She frowned. "Me?"
Andrew nodded. "The media wanted to get an exclusive interview. It’s your choice if you want to. Carter Media is not an exemption. You’re a hot topic now so it’s only natural for a broadcasting company to be interested in you."
She sighed. "Do you think that’s the reason she hired me?"
Andrew chuckled. "Yes and no. Yes because of the obvious reason. No, because they are understaffed. It’s a small company and they only gained 5% credibility in the past 2 years. They’re barely holding on. Did they tell you about the salary?"
She nodded. "It’s $1000 a month."
"See? The minimum wage for a starter like you in that field is $5000. Your salary is too low. Do you really want to work with them? Do you think that rate is fair?" Andrew asked.
She had no idea about the salary. For her, it was enough. She didn’t know if she even deserved to get a rate of $1000. At the ramen shop they earned too little, but it was enough to support her family. And they were happy. For them, surviving the struggles of life every day was enough.
She smiled at Andrew. "I think that’s fine. This is my first job and I still have no idea what my worth is. So I want to find out my capabilities so I can answer your questions."
Andrew smiled back. "Fine. I won’t stop you. I trust you and I know you can do this. But what if they ask you for an interview?"
