Chapter 122: Visiting Cross Airlines
"Nina Cross? Oh my! In the flesh!" A young man exclaimed.
Lory laughed. "Stop, Brice! Go and interview that guy."
The young man called Brice saluted and then turned his back on them.
"I’m sorry about Brice. He read all about you. Well, I think everyone knows you."
She smiled. "Yeah. I think so."
"So, are you interested?" Lory asked directly.
Nina frowned. "Why?"
"What do you mean why?"
"Everyone rejected my application because they just see me as the wife who ran away from her husband and then four years later, came back with a kid." She said with annoyance.
Lory chuckled. "Let’s just say I can relate with what you’re going through right now. And look around, only a few people are interested in us."
Nina looked at the other booths. A lot of job hunters were lined up and were hoping to get the job from big companies. Carter Media had just started a few years back and based on the little information she got, they struggled before being acknowledged by the Media and Broadcasting Association.
The company was not on her list. Because she was never interested in the news and social media, especially since they sometimes ruin someone’s reputation.
She sighed. "I don’t have any experience, but I’ll do my best to help the company grow."
Lory’s face lit up. "Thank you! We really need a hand right now, so when can you start?"
Nina chuckled. "I can start tomorrow. Here are all my documents. I know maybe you know everything about me but for legalities and stuff, I’ll give them to you."
After the job fair, she went to Cross Airlines to visit Andrew. She felt the gazes from the employees as she stepped inside the building.
"Is Mr. Andrew Cross in his office?" She asked the front desk officer.
The woman looked at her and she saw a disdainful look on her face.
"He is. But our boss is busy. If you don’t have an appointment, we can’t let you in."
Nina frowned. "I don’t think I need an appointment."
She heard the woman chuckle. "Who are you? His wife?"
Before she could answer, a woman wearing a white body-hugging dress approached the receptionist.
"Is Andrew here?"
"Oh yes, Miss Heather! Our boss is waiting for you in his office." The receptionist excitedly said.
Nina looked at the woman from head to toe. She admitted that the woman was pretty and sexy. Her dress emphasized her small waist and curvy hips.
"What?"
Nina was surprised when the woman glanced at her. She shook her head and didn’t say a word. The woman called Heather rolled her eyes at Nina and turned her back to walk away.
"Miss! Can you step out of the building before I call security?"
She had enough of the disrespectful response from the receptionist. She took out her phone and dialed Andrew’s number.
"I’m at the lobby and your receptionist just asked me to leave or else she would call your security. Get your ass down here or I swear you will sleep outside the house."
She made sure that the receptionist heard everything she said.
"Oh my! Miss, I’m going to call security now!"
Nina didn’t talk back. Before the woman could call the security, her eyes bawled when she saw Andrew running toward Nina.
"I didn’t know you were going to visit." He said.
"Do I need to ask for an appointment if I want to see my husband?" She annoyingly asked.
Andrew glared at the woman from the front desk. "No, baby. I’m sorry for her bad treatment."
He glared at the woman. "Are you going to make my wife leave? And you dare call security?"
"Wife? I–I’m sorry, sir. I–I didn’t know she’s your wife."
Nina crossed her arms. "Even if I am not his wife, you shouldn’t treat people like dirt based on their appearance. You shouldn’t be working as a receptionist because people would think badly of the company if they talked to you."
She turned to Andrew. "Are you going to let this slide?"
Andrew shook his head. He called HR and after a few minutes, the HR manager came rushing.
"You decide." He said.
Nina nodded. "Transfer her to any department. I just don’t want to see her face."
The woman panicked and quickly begged Nina.
"Miss, I’m sorry. Please forgive me. Give me another chance."
Nina looked at the woman. She pitied her, but she was so tired of being stepped on and let everything slide.
"This is a lesson for you. Do not judge people by the way they dress. Your attitude toward me was unacceptable. Be thankful that I didn’t fire you." She answered.
Andrew took her hand as they walked toward the elevator. Nina turned to the woman again and smiled.
"By the way, I am Katarina Cross. So it’s not Miss, it’s Mrs. Cross."
The woman was left dumbfounded, dropping herself on the floor.
"So how’s your job hunting?" Andrew asked.
Nina crossed her arms. "Who’s Heather?"
Andrew was surprised. "Heather? Who’s Heather?"
She laughed when she realized that Andrew had no idea who she was talking about. She told Andrew about the woman earlier and still, he couldn’t remember who it was.
"I don’t know that woman. Maybe I know her only by her face, a client. But enough of that, how’s your day?"
They were walking in the hallway of the 75th floor, toward Andrew’s office. She could still feel the gazes of the people as they passed by them.
"Don’t mind them. Visit me often so everyone can get to know my wife." Andrew commented.
Andrew pulled her inside his office and hugged her tight.
"Are you okay?" She asked.
"Yeah. There was a minor problem earlier and I was exhausted. I need to recharge." He whispered.
Nina smiled and then hugged him back.
"Me too. That’s the reason I’m here. I want to see you."
"Did you get the job?"
She nodded. "Yes. But not the one I wanted."
