Chapter 297: If Fate Allows, We Will Meet Again
With Gu Jianci’s final words, the scene dissolved into glowing particles, and Gu Jianci’s voice turned lighter like a fading wind, "Feng Zhexuan, this is the last time you will have this nightmare. You are free now. We are all free now."
With the fading voice, Feng Zhexuan jolted awake and gasped for breath. His gaze was fixed to the ceiling as he realized that the room was dimly lit and the sky outside already dark.
"Husband, are you alright? Are you having another nightmare?" Yan Yuling’s worried voice broke through his daze.
Turning to her, Feng Zhexuan reached out to touch her pale cheeks. Looking into his wife’s reddened eyes, he said quietly, "Wife, they are gone,"
Yan Yuling’s eyes filled with tears when she heard this. She nodded and said hoarsely, "I know... They said goodbye to me."
Feng Zhexuan hesitated before asking, "Wife, are you okay?"
Tears spilled down her face as Yan Yuling shook her head.
"No, I’m not. It hurts so much here," she said, pressing a hand to her chest.
Pushing himself upright, Feng Zhexuan pulled her into his arms. "Cry," he murmured, patting her back gently, and added, "You will feel better after you let it all out."
Nestled in his embrace, Yan Yuling broke down. Her sobs filled with all the sorrow, anger, and fear she had bottled up. Feng Zhexuan held her close, offering silent support. Words of comfort felt meaningless at this moment. She needed to release her pain, and he would stay by her side.
Outside the ward, Grandpa Feng sighed deeply. Having learned the full story from Wei Zheming, he had even contacted the Gu family personally.
From his investigation, he had discovered that Gu Jianci was the Gu family’s adopted son. Yet, Chairman Gu’s worried and confused tone suggested a deeper, more troubling story. Despite his suspicions, Grandpa Feng chose not to dig further as it wasn’t the Feng family’s concern.
Meanwhile, the police had yet to uncover any leads about Yan Yuling’s kidnapping’s mastermind.
As Grandpa Feng pondered about this matter, Wei Zheming and Xiao Wu walked over while carrying takeout. Seeing him waiting outside, Wei Zheming asked, "Chairman Feng, why are you here?"
Shaking off his thoughts, Grandpa Feng looked at them and replied, "Zheming, join me for a meal. Let’s not disturb them."
Wei Zheming hesitated, his gaze drifting to the closed door and the faint sound of Yan Yuling’s sobs. After considering for a moment, he nodded and said, "Chairman, you are still on a light diet. How about we have the meal at that small restaurant you liked? Their porridge is excellent."
Grandpa Feng agreed and added with a rare smile, "Bring your girlfriend, too."
Both Wei Zheming and Xiao Wu exchanged startled glances at his words but chose not to correct him.
A few months had passed in the blink of an eye. Despite a thorough investigation, the case of Yan Yuling’s kidnapping ended in a deadlock and unresolved. As for Gu Jianci’s situation, the Gu family requested a private discussion with the victim.
At this moment, the Feng, Gu, and Jin families were seated around a round table in a private room. Sipping his tea, Jin Rongsan glanced at the Gu couple, noting their haggard expressions.
After receiving news of Gu Jianci’s death, Chairman Gu suffered a heart attack and nearly lost his life. Due to health concerns, he was forced to retire and hire a CEO to manage the company.
Setting his teacup down, Jin Rongsan said, "Chairman Gu, Madam Gu, if your visit is to discuss your son’s case, there is no need for further discussion. My granddaughter has already given her statement, and we will not press charges against your son."
Hearing this, Madam Gu was stunned for a moment. When she regained her senses, she opened her bag, retrieved a diary, and placed it on the turntable.
"Miss Yan, I found this diary while sorting through my son’s belongings. I know what he did to you was unforgivable, but I hope you can accept this," she said.
Feng Zhexuan turned the turntable, took the diary, and handed it to his wife. "You should accept it," he said gently.
Yan Yuling looked at the diary in a daze. She held it, recalling a time she had seen Gu Jianci writing in this very book. She had thought it was his schedule planner. Back then, she had wanted to see it, but he had refused. It turned out this book wasn’t a schedule planner at all.
Caressing the leather cover, she murmured softly, "Thank you."
Seeing her accept the diary, Madam Gu’s eyes reddened and she said with a trembling voice, "It’s us who should thank you, Miss Yan."
After a moment of silence, Chairman Gu placed a folder on the turntable and said, "President Feng, this is the share transfer agreement. I have decided to sell my shares in Feiwu Corporation to you."
Feng Zhexuan read the document for a moment and nodded, "Chairman Gu, my assistant and the Feng Group’s legal team will contact you to finalize the details."
"Okay," Chairman Gu replied.
When the business discussion concluded, the dishes were served, and they shared a meal. An hour later, the Gu couple stood up and said, "Everyone, thank you for sparing your time to meet us. We need to catch our plane so we won’t stay any longer."
Feng Zhexuan rose from his seat and shook Chairman Gu’s hand, "Chairman Gu, I hope we have the chance to meet again."
Chairman Gu smiled faintly at his words and replied with a hint of regret, "My wife and I plan to travel the world to fulfill our son’s wish to see it. If fate allows, we will meet again."
After the meal, the Gu couple departed for the airport, while the Feng and Jin families remained in the private room.
Jin Zhiwen hesitated before addressing his daughter, "Yuling, about your surname—"
Yan Yuling smiled warmly and said, "Father, I want to take your surname."
