Chapter 282: A Madman ( 2 )
In the vast living room, only his manic laughter echoed, sending chills down the spines of his subordinates. Known as Bishop, the young man was the second-in-command of the largest underground mafia in Europe and Africa.
Despite his refined appearance, he was a madman deep down. He followed the orders of only one person, though no one knew who that was.
After what felt like an eternity, Bishop’s laughter subsided. He fixed his amused gaze on Dr. James, and said, "You are hilarious. As a renowned doctor, you don’t even know which personality is your patient’s core self. How on earth did you achieve your status with such low intelligence and observation skills?"
Dr. James’s already pale face grew even paler when he heard his words. He stared at Bishop with wide eyes as a dawning realization flashed in his gaze. Shaking his head in disbelief, he muttered, "That is impossible. The core personality is clearly Gu—"
"Gu Jianci?" Bishop interjected with a sneer.
Seeing the shock on Dr. James’s face, Bishop smirked and continued, "Gu Jianci was nothing more than a creation of Xia Jianyuan. Even though I’m not a doctor, even I know that Gu Jianci is simply a product of Xia Jianyuan’s defense mechanism—a fragment of him."
"You didn’t just fail to help Jian Yuan with his issues, you even locked him away in his own body for over a decade. Tell me, isn’t it natural for him to hate you?"
As he looked at him, a glint of ruthlessness flashed in Bishop’s eyes as he finished speaking. His demeanor shifted instantly, the earlier killing intent giving way to something far more sinister.
Dr. James trembled under Bishop’s icy, calculated gaze. Clutching his family tightly, he stammered, "W-what do you want to do?"
"If you want to kill me, then do it. But please, spare my wife and daughter. They have done nothing wrong," he pleaded.
Bishop’s smile deepened at his words. His expression was almost serene as he placed a finger to his own lips and said in a low voice, "Shh. Don’t worry, Dr. James. Your daughter’s only crime is being born as your daughter. I will make sure not to let her experience pain too much."
With that, Bishop stood and drew his gun, pointing it at Dr. James’s daughter’s head. His gentle smile belied the malice in his eyes as he said softly, "Sleep well."
The woman’s eyes widened in horror when she saw the gentle smile and pity in his eyes. Before she could say anything, she saw him pull the trigger.
In the next second, the gunshot echoed in the entire villa.
BANG!
"Ahhh!!!"
"Noo!!"
Blood splattered, and the young woman’s body slumped against the sofa. Crimson blood flowed from the bullet wound on her forehead, staining the white sofa red. Her once-bright eyes stared blankly ahead, frozen in terror and disbelief.
Dr. James and his wife wailed in anguish as his wife cradled their daughter’s lifeless body in her arms while shouting, "No!! Amy! Oh God, No–baby, open your eyes–"
Standing before them, Bishop’s gaze was devoid of emotion. The longer he watched their grief, the colder his expression became.
After a moment, he scoffed coldly and said, "Heh, what a warm family."
His tone was laced with faint bitterness but no one noticed it. Then, without hesitation, he aimed the gun at Dr. James’s wife, and said, "You are next."
"No!" Dr. James lunged desperately toward Bishop, trying to grab the gun.
Looking at his desperation, Bishop smiled calmly and pulled the trigger.
BANG!
"Ah!"
Dr. James cried out as he fell to the floor with blood pooling beneath him. His kneecap had been shattered, leaving him to crawl helplessly. A red trail smeared across the floor as he dragged himself toward Bishop.
Watching the pitiful sight, a twisted sense of satisfaction filled Bishop’s heart. At last, he would be able to free himself from the demon that had haunted him for so many years.
BANG!
The sound of another gunshot echoed in the villa.
As soon as he heard the gunshot, Dr. James froze and his body trembled violently. Slowly, he turned his head—only to see his wife slumped lifelessly beside their daughter. Both women bore the same fatal wound to their foreheads with their faces drenched in blood.
"No—no, this has to be a nightmare. This isn’t real—"
As Dr. James muttered in shock, Bishop stepped forward. Each deliberate step shattered the doctor’s fragile grip on reality.
When a pair of polished leather shoes entered his line of sight, dread consumed him. Paralyzed with fear, his body betrayed him, and a foul smell filled the air.
Bishop crouched before him, tilting Dr. James’s chin up with the barrel of his gun, and looked at the man he once vowed to kill.
He had imagined this moment countless times since he was 5 years old. What it would feel like to finally exact his revenge. But now, standing at the precipice of his long-awaited victory, all he felt was emptiness.
After a moment, Bishop felt bored and said coldly, "I won’t kill you. Giving you a quick death is an act of mercy, and you don’t deserve any mercy. I will make sure you live for a very long time. You will spend the rest of your life inside a small, dark room. Only this way can you atone for your sins."
Hearing the chilling words, Dr. James shook his head desperately and begged, "No! P-please, just kill me—"
Sneering at his pleading, Bishop asked him, "James Wright, do you remember the woman you raped 26 years ago?"
Dr. James’ eyes widened in shock when the buried memories flashed in his mind.
Looking at his surprised expression, Bishop let out a soft chuckle and continued, "She was only 20 when you destroyed her life. You took everything from her and discarded her like trash. While you had a warm family and a happy life, she was hunted down like a dog and died from falling off the cliff."
"Who are you?" Dr. James whispered.
Bishop chuckled darkly and repeated, "Me?"
