Chapter 269: Phone Call
Chapter 269: Phone Call
Jian Yuan returned to his room and dialed a number. After a moment, the call was picked up, and a young woman’s voice came through, "Code Zero, I have told you before, I have no intention of working with you."
Despite the direct rejection, Jian Yuan didn’t get angry. Instead, he chuckled and replied, "X, I think you have misunderstood. This isn’t a deal, and you don’t have a choice but to work with me."
The young woman laughed, her tone tinged with amusement when she said, "Code Zero, do you think you can threaten me? While you are the second best in the cyber world, I’m no less skilled than you."
Jian Yuan’s voice remained calm as he said, "Well, I know your identity and the people you care about."
The line went silent for a moment before she sighed and said, "Gu Jianci—no, I suppose it’s Xia Jianyuan now."
Hearing his old name, Jian Yuan’s eyes narrowed. His voice turned cold and said, "How did you figure that out?"
The woman chuckled again and said with a hint of a smile on her voice, "You are not the only one who knows things, Code Zero. I know more about you than you know about me. For instance, I know you have been combing through major servers in Huaxia, looking for your sister’s information."
She paused for a moment before adding, "Stop wasting your time. Your sister isn’t in Huaxia anymore."
Jian Yuan’s heart skipped a beat when he heard this. He clenched his fists and asked, "You know where she is?"
"It wasn’t hard to find her location once I knew who she was. Unfortunately, you didn’t know her current identity. But rest assured, she is in a safe place and happy."
"How much do you want for you to sell this information?" he asked.
The woman’s voice turned to a teasing tone when she asked, "Now, now—do you think I lack money?"
"Then what do you want?" Jian Yuan asked again.
"Code Zero, I don’t care what you are planning, but leave my people out of it. I can tell you your sister is safe and happy. As for her current location, I won’t tell you."
Jian Yuan clenched his fists tightly, his silence stretching before he finally said, "I understand. I won’t touch your people. As for the other matter—"
Before he finished his words, she interrupted him, "Code Zero, what you are planning is dangerous, very dangerous. I can tell you your success rate is less than five percent. You are no match for him."
"Instead of throwing your life away seeking revenge, why not start fresh? With your current identity, wealth, and power, what more could you want?" she asked.
Jian Yuan’s voice turned bitter and cold as he said through gritted teeth, "I only want my woman back. I couldn’t care less about wealth, power, or status."
X clicked her tongue, her tone laced with exasperation when she said, "She was never yours to begin with. Why are you so obsessed with her?"
"This isn’t about your brother’s promise to her anymore. Xia Jianyuan, it’s your own obsession. As someone who once worked alongside you, I can only advise you to stop before it’s too late."
There was a hint of worry and uneasiness in her voice, but Jian Yuan was too immersed in his own world to realize the implications of her words.
Knowing it was futile to seek her help, Jian Yuan hung up without another word. He stared out the window, his gaze fixed on the moon, lost in thought.
That night fifteen years ago haunted him for more than a decade. The night he watched his mother murdered by the girl he and his brother loved. The agony and guilt he felt was worse than death. For fifteen years, he had been trapped in his own body, surrounded by unrelenting darkness.
It was all because of Feng Zhexuan!
If she hadn’t met Feng Zhexuan that night, she wouldn’t have killed his mother. If there is no blood debt between them, he won’t feel guilty whenever he wants to be close to the girl they love.
Because of Feng Zhexuan, he lost his mother and his Xiao Ling’er. So, how could he let him live? How could he move on without exacting revenge?
Therefore, in his world, if he lived, Feng Zhexuan must die. Jian Yuan would avenge his mother and reclaim what was rightfully his.
It took a long time to calm the storm inside him. At least now he knew his sister was safe, even if he didn’t know her whereabouts. That was enough. What he was about to do was too dangerous for her to get involved.
With this thought in his mind, he dialed another number, and the call was picked up within seconds.
"Hello, Young Master Gu," came a voice on the other end.
"Doctor James, you have done a good job. I will return your daughter once the matter is resolved. You know what to do next, don’t you?" Jian Yuan said with a faint smile.
"Young Master Gu, I will disappear from public view entirely. As long as my family is safe, I’m willing to do whatever you ask—even if you want me to die, I will do it," James Wright replied resolutely.
A faint glint flickered in Jian Yuan’s eyes when he said with a chuckle, "Doctor James, I don’t want your life. So, you don’t have to die. I only need you to ensure that Chairman Gu and his wife never regain their memories. I want them to believe I’m their biological son forever."
James Wright sighed in relief when he heard this. He had feared the young master would demand something more extreme, like killing them. Altering their memories was a dangerous task that could cause brain damage if rushed, but his daughter’s safety came first.
After a brief pause, James replied, "Young Master Gu, I can guarantee they will never recover their original memories."
