Little Wife's Diary: My Husband is My Boss! -
Chapter 270: Quarrel
Chapter 270: Quarrel
"Good," Jian Yuan said with satisfaction before hanging up.
He stared at his reflection in the window and muttered, "Jianci, ah, Jianci... you loved your adoptive parents so much. I wonder how you will feel when you see them sent to an asylum by their beloved son."
A chuckle escaped his lips when he imagined their expression when that happened before he turned toward his study. There was still so much to do before his return to Huaxia.
"Ah, I’m so busy and you still can sleep peacefully. But, it’s alright. Jianci, you should sleep more and leave everything to me," he said with mock helplessness.
Back in Huaxia, Du Leilei stared at her phone for a long time after the call was hung up and let out a long sigh. If possible, she didn’t want to push Jian Yuan into a corner. After all, they had grown up in the same orphanage. Once, he had been her good friend.
She had said what needed to be said. Now, everything depended on Jian Yuan’s actions and her boss’s decision. She could only hope that no matter what happened, her boss would leave her friend a path to survival.
As she let out another heavy sigh, the door suddenly swung open. A young man walked in, a teasing smile on his face when he said, "Du Leilei, if you keep sighing like that, your hair will turn white before you hit thirty."
Recognizing the familiar voice, Du Leilei glared at him and asked, "Lei Junfeng, what are you doing here? Aren’t you supposed to be going home?"
"Who said I’m going home?" he asked her back while casually plopping down beside her.
"Sister Liu told me you need to return home and sort things out with your parents," Du Leilei replied.
"Well, I’m an adult. I don’t need my parents’ approval to join the entertainment industry," he said nonchalantly.
Before she could process what he meant, he continued, "Du Leilei, I have signed a contract with Global Entertainment to become an actor. From now on, you will be my personal assistant."
The moment she heard this, Du Leilei’s eyes widened in disbelief. She pointed at his nose and asked with disbelief, "You? An actor? Do you even have the talent to act?"
Lei Junfeng chuckled, clearly amused by her words. He flicked at her slender finger pointing at his nose and said nonchalantly, "I think my acting is passable."
After all, he thought to himself, no one has discovered my true identity after all these years. That should be proof enough of my acting skills.
Du Leilei shook her head and muttered, "This world has gone crazy."
Before she could say more, the door opened again, and Liu Yuxi entered, followed by a group of professionals. She gestured for them to get to work and pulled Du Leilei aside.
While the makeup artist, stylist, and hairstylist began discussing their plans for Lei Junfeng’s makeover, Liu Yuxi handed Du Leilei a folder.
"Xiao Du, this is your new contract," she said.
"Xiayan is retiring from the entertainment industry, so your contract as her assistant will be ending. If you agree to stay with Global Entertainment, you can sign this and continue working as Junfeng’s personal assistant," she explained.
Du Leilei didn’t take the folder. Instead, she asked, "Sister Liu, if I don’t sign this contract, will I still be eligible for compensation? The original agreement stated I would receive triple my yearly salary if the actress I worked with couldn’t continue her career."
Liu Yuxi lowered the folder and nodded. After a moment, she said, "You are entitled to compensation. However, if you accept it, you will no longer be able to work with Global Entertainment. That payment also serves as severance."
Before Liu Yuxi could say more, Lei Junfeng strode over, snatched the folder, and pushed it into Du Leilei’s arms.
"Du Leilei, what are you even talking about? Just sign the contract and stop spouting nonsense!" he said with a deep frown.
Du Leilei stared at the contract in her hands while her thoughts churned. Her job as Xing Xiayan’s assistant had been assigned by her boss. Now that the mission was over, there was no reason for her to remain with the company.
Money wasn’t an issue for her at all. With one mission her boss assigned her, the rewards were more than several decades of an assistant’s salary. She really had no reason to stay. She also needs to return to New York because someone is waiting for her.
After a long silence, she returned the folder to Liu Yuxi and said, "Sister Liu, I will take the compensation."
As soon as the words left her mouth, Lei Junfeng grabbed her arm. His tone was sharp, as if he was very angry at her, "Du Leilei, are you insane? Do you know how hard it is to find a job these days? You are throwing away a golden opportunity!"
Wincing at the tight grip on her arm, Du Leilei tried to pull away. After a while, she still couldn’t free herself from him and finally snapped, "Lei Junfeng, are you sick? What does it matter to you if I have a job or not? Who are you to control me?"
Her patience had worn thin. She didn’t want to deal with this ridiculous young master anymore. If he wanted to play at being an actor, so be it. Why drag her into it? She still had to return to New York and report to Cyber Vision’s headquarters!
Stunned by her outburst, Lei Junfeng stared at her in disbelief. Realizing she was serious about leaving, he slowly let her go. Then, after a moment, he laughed bitterly.
"I thought I was helping you. But clearly, you don’t need my help at all," he said coldly.
His glare was as sharp as a cold knife when he shouted, "If you want to leave, then leave! I won’t care about you anymore!"
With that, he stormed out, slamming the door so hard it rattled on its hinges.
