"Brother, brother, we could take the elevator."

Yoen felt like a kite being pulled through the night sky, drifting along the stairwell.

"The time it takes for you to wait for the elevator, would be enough for it to kill you."

He Ao said calmly.

Yoen’s home was on the 13th floor, fire escapes were rarely used all year round, only a few floors had working stair lights.

He Ao’s speed was extremely fast, pulling Yoen in a flash. In the dimly lit corridors, Yoen could always glimpse the distorted limbs hidden in the shadows.

Sometimes, when turning a corner, he would see a limb suddenly shoot out, almost grabbing him.

He felt it was truly bold of himself not to faint.

Thirteen floors wasn’t a lot, but also wasn’t a few.

Although Yoen felt the brief period seemed as long as ten thousand years, in reality, the minute counts on his bracelet had hardly jumped a few times.

The door to the fire escape was right before them, locked with a rusty iron chain.

The lights on the first floor were working.

Yoen saw the exit getting closer and closer, a tinge of joy at the prospect of escaping to safety rose in his heart.

Then he heard a bang, and the door to the fire escape locked in place was kicked open.

A man with a mechanical body, shining with flowing light from his bald head, slowly walked in.

The gang members upstairs were just ’eyes’, those downstairs were the dangerous ones.

"Kid, heard you killed the manager of a D-class Mechanized Body from the Federal Bureau of Investigation?" The man clenched his fist, his body emitting the sound of mechanical twisting, "Let me see what you’re made of."

He raised his hand, preparing to give He Ao a point-blank laser cannon.

Just as his palm was lifted, a short sword gleaming with cold light pierced through his body.

Then, with a bewildered look in his eyes, He Ao pulled out the sword and brushed past the man, disappearing through the exit.

This sword hadn’t pierced through his energy core, but had damaged his main control board, leaving him temporarily immobile and unable to summon his weapons.

He struggled to move his body relying on a backup control panel, attempting to leave the place, but was instantly caught by the surging bodies behind him.

Countless fleshly limbs tore and pulled at his mechanical body, some hands even reached into the wound that He Ao had just punctured.

Although his Mechanized Body was strong, at this moment all powerful offensive weapons could not be activated, and with the piercing wound left by someone else, he could only be torn by these twisted limbs.

"What kind of monster is this!!!"

He strived to struggle free, but the more he pulled, the tighter he became engulfed by the dense heads.

Low whispers of Echo could be heard echoing throughout the space.

This monster seemed to grow stronger.

One after another, bodies rushed out of the channel, glancing around and chasing after the two shadows that had faded into the night.

"Bro, bro, brother, the monster is chasing after us again."

Yoen, who was being pulled in a mad dash, looked back in horror at the huge Black Shadow.

The monster, unrestricted by the buildings, had finally fully extended its limbs, casting a huge Shadow over the light, like a twisted flower blooming in the night.

Faces twisted, either holding metal shards or chunks of flesh, focusing their wide eyes on Yoen as he watched them.

Yoen only felt that after running a circle with them, the monster had become even more terrifying.

Some heads even stretched their skin to show him a ’smile’, and he could even see the red flesh threads between the smiling teeth.

The street lights on the road they were taking were still operational, albeit not very bright.

Each street light they passed illuminated part of the heads while the rest hid in darkness.

Yoen found that even more frightening.

Fortunately, He Ao was quite fast. Although the monster was biting closely behind them, it never managed to bite Yoen.

However, Yoen’s relief lasted for less than an instant.

While he was watching the monster behind, voices from a loudspeaker came from the direction they were heading,

"Stop, you are surrounded. This is the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Drop your weapons and surrender immediately. If you have been wronged, the Federation court will grant you justice. Now, drop your weapons and put your hands up."

It was only when these persuading voices sounded that Yoen suddenly realized that this brother dragging him to escape was now worth two hundred thousand.

With wolves ahead and tigers behind, Yoen suddenly felt his future was bleak.

If He Ao slowed down even a little, they would be caught by the monster behind, and if He Ao did not stop, the Federal Bureau of Investigation agents in front would certainly shoot. He Ao probably wouldn’t be in trouble, but Yoen would likely be shot dead by the stray bullets.

Choose one of two.

He hadn’t expected to have the right to choose how he’d die.

No,

Yoen suddenly realized that the decision to run or stop wasn’t his to make.

That was when He Ao, holding onto him, suddenly whispered, "Hold tight."

"What?"

Immediately after, he felt as if he could hear the wind.

The wind ripped open his mouth, slapped against his face, turning all his words into

Alurlurlurlur—

The Federal Bureau of Investigation agents outside hadn’t reacted yet when they saw a shadow shoot across the sky, accompanied by strange cries, breaking out of their encirclement and disappearing into the alley.

Before they could recover, an even more massive entity appeared in the light.

"What is that?"

"Monster! It’s the monster!"

"It’s an exotic beast! An exotic beast invasion!"

"Shoot! Shoot!"

The agents snapped out of a brief panic and immediately fired at the massive Black Shadow.

Some experienced agents climbed onto the vehicles, pulled out miniature laser cannons, and aimed at the Black Shadow.

With every flash of brilliance, the creature that seemed poised to charge into the crowd halted in its tracks.

Twisted limbs fell to the ground and instantly turned into decayed white bones, emitting a rotten stench.

"Ahhh!!!"

A scream that sounded like human agony suddenly exploded in everyone’s ears, dragging them into a world of whispers drenched in blood.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation agents fell into a brief disorientation and panic.

Seizing the moment’s chaos, the creature no longer attacked but instead retreated violently, sprinting into the night.

The creature wasn’t foolish; it knew when to retreat when faced with strength.

The reason it had been pursuing He Ao was that He Ao appeared not to be particularly strong, maintaining a distance just within its reach.

As the creature escaped into the shadows, the agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation quickly regained their composure.

"What kind of creature was that just now?"

"It looks like an exotic beast?"

"How could an exotic beast have the appearance of a human?"

"Where’s Nell? Weren’t we here to capture Nell? Where is he?"

······

While the Federal Bureau of Investigation was in disarray, He Ao had already pulled Yoen around the corner, returning to that street, and rushed deeper into the thoroughfare.

"Bro, bro, why are we coming back here? That creature hasn’t gone yet; aren’t we just delivering ourselves to it like takeout?"

Yoen was out of breath, finally able to rest and leaning against the wall, feeling as though he was about to ascend to Heaven.

He Ao crouched down, glanced at the small pool of blood tinged with red on the ground, slowly stood up,

"It should be here."

"Aren’t you afraid?"

Yoen gasped for air, looking at his friend. He suddenly realized that his friend had always been calm, as if he didn’t know fear.

Could it be that this guy wasn’t a nighthunter assassin but a daemon hunter?

"’The guy who’s a factory apprentice by day and a gigolo king by night is actually the last daemon hunter in the world’?"

Ew, why does it have to be a gigolo.

Yoen looked up at He Ao.

At that moment, He Ao’s gaze was sharp, his stature straight. He pressed one hand on the hilt of the short sword sheathed on his left, observing the depths of the night, his deep pupils weaving madness and solitude together.

Though Nell’s appearance could only be considered above average, under the allure of his mysterious aura and coupled with his tailored overcoat, he seemed much more impressive, and even Yoen found him incredibly handsome.

It must be because this guy looked so much like a gigolo, not that he had a fondness for gigolo-themed stories.

"Here it comes."

He Ao tightened his grip on the short sword on his left, reversed his grip, and swept it across the sky.

A cold brilliance flashed by.

A massive Black Shadow leaped out of the night, colliding precisely with the cold glare. Its body tensed, then split in two and fell to the ground.

Bright red blood sprayed out, covering He Ao’s cheeks.

He Ao retracted his short sword and walked over to the halved carcass. He had already identified the monster’s weakness; during the chase and fight, he noticed the creature would instinctively protect the connection point between its upper and lower halves, as if this spot was very important.

Yoen didn’t want to get close, but his curiosity got the better of him, and he stumbled over.

Just as he arrived, a severe stench of decay struck him, causing him to lean on He Ao and start retching.

Then he sneaked a glance at He Ao beside him and saw that He Ao’s gaze remained calm, without so much as a furrow in his brow.

He looked down again at the bifurcated corpse.

This was the very creature that had been hunting them.

The creature had most of its tentacles severed by the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s attack, but now He Ao had split its entire body in two.

The upper half of the monster lay on the ground, rotting rapidly and giving off a foul smell.

However, the lower half maintained some sort of fleshy state, as if it wasn’t completely dead yet.

He Ao split the creature’s lower body open, and an old doorbell appeared inside the monster’s body. The doorbell was the simplest model, unadorned with any other patterns, only somewhat antiquated.

This creature seemed to have appeared even before the one at Eisen’s home, killed more people, and consequently, was stronger, even stashing a Divine Being’s item directly inside its body.

He Ao split the doorbell with his sword, black-red blood flowed out, and streaks of red brilliance were absorbed by the double swords.

The red light emanating from the doorbell was much more than what the broken nightlight had released.

In the darkness, the whispers in He Ao’s ears grew louder and his connection with that eternally slumbering forbidden entity deepened further.

Sheathing his swords, He Ao looked towards the shadows from which the spider had emerged, which seemed to lead into a dim, pitch-black alley.

"Let’s take a look inside."

He stepped forward, moving ahead.

Yoen couldn’t shake the feeling that the dark night might be concealing other creatures.

He wanted to puff out his chest and say, "I’ll stay here, you go on ahead."

But after glancing at the putrid corpse on the ground, he followed He Ao with trembling steps.
