Although the robot still maintained a standing position, its chest had been completely pierced through; it seemed as if it had been destroyed in an instant by some sort of sturdy and sharp weapon.

He Ao examined a few more robots and found almost the same situation—each had their chest pierced in the blink of an eye, instantly killed.

It must have been the same enemy.

The wounds weren’t old; they seemed to have been made at the same time as the pits and potholes melted by lasers on the ground.

He Ao began to reconstruct the battle scene in his mind.

The invaders had burst through the door slit that had been smashed open, and the robots quickly reacted by firing lasers. But they were a step behind; the invaders dodged the initial attack and with incredible speed destroyed them in a short time.

He Ao looked closer and noticed that the robots further back showed more signs of movement, but they had not left their original formations, which meant they were destroyed so swiftly they did not even have time to change formation.

Two pieces of information were clear: the enemy was fast and wielded a weapon capable of easily piercing alloy armor.

He Ao put himself in the invader’s shoes, wondering if, surrounded by these old robots, he could have managed a counter-attack.

There was a chance, but it would be difficult and would require much effort—not something that could be done in such a short span of time.

The enemy’s combat strength had to far exceed his own; facing them head-on, he was likely to be instantly killed.

He Ao rubbed his temples; although he had anticipated it, realizing this fact still gave him a headache.

"What’s wrong?"

Liu Nan asked softly as he saw He Ao staring blankly at the robots.

"These robots were destroyed not long ago," He Ao did not hide the truth, sharing his analysis, "The invader is very strong. The robots were basically destroyed in a very short amount of time; they might still be inside the tower. We need to be careful—if we encounter them, we might all die here."

"Mhm."

Liu Nan shrank his head in and nodded gently.

At that moment, He Ao shifted his gaze from the robots to the wall behind them, where old mechanical armors leaned against the dark walls.

Inside these mechanical suits were complete skeletons, which, untouched by any harm, bore the marks of time on their patchy bones.

He Ao walked over and began to carefully examine the bones.

There were no pierced holes from weapons on the mechanical armors, only a thick layer of dust, which suggested that these suits had been scrapped before the invader entered the tower years ago and their operators had likely died long before.

He Ao closely observed the mottled and decayed marks on the bones, realizing they could have been preserved here for centuries.

They had been sealed in the closed space of the tower, similar to being stored in a hermetically sealed tomb, and thus had been spared from weathering and retained.

He Ao turned to glance back at the destroyed robots then refocused his attention.

There were no obvious wounds on these bones, and the battle marks on the ground were from a few years back with no older battle scars present.

This indicated that at the time of their death, there likely was no fierce battle, and even the surrounding robots may not have participated in any combat.

Some skeletons inside the mechanical armors still wore faded, decayed, and tattered uniforms, resembling military attire—likely the soldiers who guarded the tower.

This must have taken place centuries ago, on a day when humanity on this planet had not yet gone extinct, a time even before the invasion that destroyed those robots.

The tower might have experienced a mysterious and catastrophic ’Advent’ that did not damage the tower’s doors or even trigger a counterattack from the intelligent machines guarding it.

And those soldiers clad in mechanical armors guarding the tower might not even have had the chance to react before they fell into an eternal slumber.

The tower was harboring more and more strangeness.

He Ao took a deep breath and slowly walked towards the depths of the tower.

If something had killed these soldiers hundreds of years ago, it couldn’t have only killed the soldiers; perhaps everyone in the tower perished in that event.

Because if there was even a hint of order left in the tower, they wouldn’t have allowed the bones of these guards to be discarded here so carelessly.

Considering the strict defenses set up at the tower’s entrance, it might be that the disaster which destroyed humanity on this planet had already begun when the tower’s doors shut.

The people inside the tower most likely viewed it as a sanctuary.

But now, it seemed that this sanctuary had failed in its mission.

After entering the tower, there wasn’t a direct path to the center but a circular corridor along the wall.

The outer side of the corridor was the wall, and the inner side had a series of small doors, all firmly locked. He Ao could sense that the thing drawing him in was at the very center of the tower.

Obviously, one couldn’t reach the center of the tower through the corridor.

As he was considering whether to smash open one of the iron doors to continue inside, a slightly ajar iron door appeared in his field of vision.

He approached the door and slowly pushed it open, first to see a spacious basketball court, then a tennis court, a badminton court, and neatly arranged table tennis tables.

It seemed to be a recreational sports area.

He Ao stepped beyond the iron door.

One after another, skeletons lay twisted in random positions on the ground.

These skeletons also showed no sign of struggle or injury.

They must have been the people exercising in the sports facility during that ’invasion’; they hadn’t even had the chance to take any action before sinking into an eternal stillness.

As He Ao had guessed, the ’thing’ that had killed the soldiers at the door couldn’t have only claimed the soldiers.

Initially, He Ao thought the soldiers might have fought back, sustained injuries, just not one affecting the bones.

But now, seeing the sportsperson’s bodies lying haphazardly, He Ao’s thoughts began to change.

If people had even a moment to flee or fight back, they would have shown some kind of clustering or directional tendency, but the skeletons in front of He Ao looked as though they had suddenly fallen while playing or watching, with no one attempting to escape.

This proved that the disaster might have struck instantaneously, with people not even having time to react before dying.

The sports facility had two locked doors leading to the left and right areas, not towards the central part of the tower.

After thinking for a while, He Ao stepped back from the sports area and didn’t try to force open the locked doors on either side.

He decided to look for other doors that might lead directly to the tower’s heart.

He continued forward for about several dozen meters when a new open doorway appeared before him.

Past the doorway was a long corridor, with tightly closed doors, each marked with a number, apparently the dormitories within the tower.

He Ao entered the corridor.

He had a premonition that at the end of this corridor lay the very center of the tower.
