Of course, he hadn’t developed any prophetic abilities, rather a faint light shone at the end of the corridor, appearing particularly glaring within the pitch-black passageway, making him feel certain there was something at the end of it.
He Ao walked quietly along the corridor, trying to pull open some nearby dormitory doors. Some were firmly locked, while others opened with ease.
The dorms were outfitted simply: a bed that now was just a metal frame with bits of shredded, decayed material, a small table, and iron blocks so corroded their shapes were indecipherable, looking like the remains of some household appliances.
Basic small robots were standard in these dorms. Unlike other robots in the ruins that were still active, these seemed to have lost their power, rusting away quietly in their corners.
He Ao tried to pick up one, disassembling the parts and taking out something that looked like a damaged motherboard.
Since attacking the robots in the ruins would provoke an onslaught, the Research Institute apparently hadn’t yet acquired any of the ruins’ technology.
He Ao wasn’t in that field of research and couldn’t distinguish these parts, so he took apart what looked like precision components, wrapped them in cloth, and slung them over his back.
If the Research Institute hadn’t gotten their hands on these things before, then this should fetch a good sum of money.
Rarity begets value.
Liu Nan stood at the doorway, silently watching He Ao.
When He Ao finished collecting his things and walked out, she quietly followed behind him.
The two of them continued without speaking. Several times, Liu Nan quickened her pace to close the gap behind He Ao, but ultimately kept a distance from him.
He Ao seemed unaware. The corridor was not short, but with their strong stride, they soon reached the end.
What came into their sight was a sleek, semi-circular silver hallway, its bright lights casting upon it, forming a stark contrast with the dark corridor.
He Ao stepped into the hallway.
The floor of the hallway was very clean, virtually dust-free, and the air was much fresher than in the corridor, giving the impression it was still in regular operation, not like a facility that had been abandoned for hundreds of years.
Fresh air indicated a ventilation system.
He Ao looked around but didn’t see any obvious ventilation ducts.
It seemed to be a concealed system.
He Ao felt that what was drawing him was inside the wall of the hallway, but the direction was not clear; it was slightly downward, as if the object was not on the ground.
He shook his head, looking to his left and right.
Now facing the inner wall of the hallway, corridors stretched both ways.
Based on the concentric architectural design of the outer circular corridors, the interior architecture of the tower might consist of concentric circles within concentric circles, dividing the space between the circles into various regions.
If it were this style, then this silver hallway on the inside should also be circular, and choosing either direction should make no difference.
He Ao thought for a moment and chose to go right, following his intuition.
The Liu Nan behind him hesitated, giving him a puzzled look, but still, without speaking, she followed him to the right.
The large arc of the hallway suggested a not-so-extensive radius, and by that calculation, the entire hallway shouldn’t be too long.
Yet it still took He Ao quite a while before he could faintly see something resembling a doorway ahead.
He Ao felt he might have chosen the wrong direction, having nearly circled the entire hallway before reaching this door.
If he had chosen the left side at the start, he might have arrived there much sooner.
He Ao rubbed his forehead, casting aside these thoughts, and walked up to the silver door ahead.
The door wasn’t very large, about one and a half meters wide and two meters tall.
He Ao looked for a moment but found no seam in the middle of the door, unlike the outer doors. It wasn’t a double door, but rather, made of a single piece of silver metal.
Five large characters were inscribed on the door, "Central ***."
He Ao recognized only the first two characters and did not know the rest.
But even the first two words indicated the significance of the area beyond the door.
This must be the core control area of the entire tower.
He Ao lightly knocked on the metal door.
What came back was a series of muffled ’thuds.’
This proved that the door was extremely thick; if it were a normal door, the sound should have been a more hollow ’thump.’
Violence would likely not be enough to destroy this door.
He Ao withdrew his hand.
As expected.
He shifted his gaze to the side, where next to the metal door, there was a silver metal control platform protruding from the wall, with a small screen on it, currently in sleep mode.
Beneath the platform lay a skeleton, sprawled on the ground.
He Ao stepped forward, examining the skeleton closely.
The skeleton lay on its side, one arm stretched out, the other in front of its head, and its legs slightly bent.
He Ao roughly simulated the position.
Standing in front of the protruding platform, he hovered his hand over the screen and then imagined his body suddenly losing strength, toppling to one side. The posture when lying on the ground should be similar to that of the skeleton.
That is to say, when this skeleton was alive, it must have been operating the screen on this platform.
Why was he operating this screen?
He Ao pondered for a moment, then placed his finger on the screen.
The entire screen lit up instantly, displaying the outline of a blue palm.
Around the palm were flickering blue dots, like stars, possibly part of the background.
Near the top of the screen, above those flickering dots, there were five flashing large characters, the first being ’Please’ and the fourth ’hand.’
It seemed to be asking the operator to place their hand on it.
He Ao thought for a moment but did not immediately place his hand on it.
Unbeknownst to him, Liu Nan had walked up behind him.
Absorbed in his thoughts, He Ao started randomly pressing on the screen.
These intelligent devices for controlling doors usually allow some settings to be made from the main interface, but He Ao searched and couldn’t find any options for settings, which were probably hidden.
In such cases, pressing randomly could sometimes yield surprises.
Just as He Ao touched a small light dot beneath the palm image on the screen, the whole screen flickered. The previously flickering dots gradually disappeared, turning into flowing glows.
At the same time, small icons appeared around the edges of the screen.
These icons were different from the style used in Central Earth, but He Ao was very familiar with them.
Although there were some changes in details, overall, these icons were similar to the UI icons used in the Copy World.
Some icons were complicated, and He Ao was unclear about their purpose; other icons were almost no different from those in the Copy World.
For example, the rotating gear in the upper right corner, which signified ’Settings.’
He Ao reached out and pressed the settings icon.
A simple menu appeared before him, with a line of characters larger than the others at the very front of the menu. He Ao couldn’t understand the overall meaning of this string of characters but followed the entries line by line downward.
He didn’t recognize most of these characters and could only guess.
It felt like a high school student with poor foreign language skills attempting a reading comprehension exercise.
Soon, He Ao’s gaze settled on the last line. This entry had just two simple characters, which, by chance, had appeared in a book he had once read, "Restoration of Partial Texts from the Original Federation’s Regions."
The reason these two characters were included in that book was that they formed a very important phrase.

He Ao opened the entry.
