Dawn broke.

The magnificent Nord Tower, once bustling with activity, was surrounded by a dense cluster of police cars, with bright yellow police tape cordoning off the streets.

"Jiali, look quickly, the Nord Tower has exploded!"

The red-haired girl stuck her head out of the passenger window, excitedly looking at the building that was encircled by police.

Next to them, a television set in another building was broadcasting news of a Cultist attack on the Sky Plaza of the Nord Tower, resulting in an explosion.

"Don’t stick your head out of the car window," Yi Jiali said somewhat helplessly as she pulled her friend back into the car, "Annie, you’re too old for that."

"Oh," Annie leaned back into the passenger seat, "Jiali, if the Nord Consortium goes bankrupt, does that mean I don’t have to pay off my Nord Bank credit card?"

"What are you thinking," Yi Jiali rolled her eyes, "Debt just gets transferred, it never disappears, unless you file for bankruptcy or default. Even if Nord Bank goes bankrupt, your debt would be directly transferred to the creditors of Nord Bank or to the new bank that emerges from bankruptcy restructuring."

"I was just saying."

Annie clung to the car window, watching the television screen outside the window.

During the wait for the traffic light, Yi Jiali glanced at the news on the screen outside the window.

The once-grand Sky Theater was now reduced to ruins and remnants, and even the thick flooring had been pierced by a powerful force, creating a huge void in the floors below.

The Nord Consortium had spent a fortune to construct this Sky Theater, which they claimed to be a unique aerial wonder within the entire Federation. After its completion, it had become one of Dawn City’s landmark buildings, attracting an endless stream of tourists.

But now, this enormous and majestic theater was entirely claimed by the void, and it seemed that the Nord Consortium’s losses in this incident were not insignificant.

Green light.

Yi Jiali shifted her gaze away and restarted the car.

Back when she and Annie had not yet started their homeless children relief endeavor, they had visited the Nord Consortium.

As a major financial group that started in Dawn City and had businesses spread across the Federation, the Nord Consortium had repeatedly expressed its concern for the charitable efforts in Dawn City at public occasions and had specifically established a charitable department for the purpose.

Upon discovering the issue of homeless children, Yi Jiali and Annie had visited this charitable department, hoping that these wandering children could receive help from the major consortium.

They had spent months collecting data and submitted the complex and detailed proof required by the Nord Consortium, then waited another month to complete all the procedures.

In the end, the Nord Consortium accepted their proposal and established a special foundation, ’Dawn Homeless Children Education Foundation’, to assist the homeless children.

Yi Jiali and Annie were overjoyed upon hearing the news, thinking their efforts had paid off.

But when they returned to the original area a few months later, they found that the children were still living their precarious lives of vagrancy,

The so-called ’Dawn Homeless Children Education Foundation’ had employed a plethora of relatives of the Mayor and family members of municipal officials, who showed off in their luxury sports cars, splashing muddy water on the homeless children with nowhere to hide.

Since then, Yi Jiali and Annie started raising money on their own and organizing the education for the children themselves.

"Jiali, the school will be repaired soon,"

Annie, who had been leaning on the window, suddenly turned around and said softly.

"Yes."

Yi Jiali lifted her head to look at the road ahead, where the morning sun was slowly rising over her head.

——

Selena stood in the center of the ruins, slowly picking up the short sword from the ground.

The winds high above whipped her golden hair around.

Distorted babble echoed in her ears, the strong contamination left by the God of Knowledge still lingered here.

She had thought she wouldn’t have to face this scene again, she had tried hard to prevent all this from happening, but now, she found herself standing in the midst of similar ruins once again.

The last time, the young man with the warm smile had shot himself in front of her; this time, the stranger who was both unfamiliar and familiar pushed her aside.

It was the same punishment from the God of Knowledge, but this time it was clearly much stronger than what Ande experienced.

Yezola, Ande, Roy.

These names flew through Selena’s mind—three special and remarkable individuals she had encountered in the last three months, all seemingly connected to the God of Knowledge.

Were they some kind of rebels against the God of Knowledge? Or did they belong to some special organization?

She was dazed as she watched the fiery morning sun slowly rise.

Could there really be such organizations filled with romantic, heroic figures?

They were using their own lives to illuminate the dark, silent night.

Buzz—

A strange communication request came through.

Selena hesitated for a moment, then chose to accept.

"Hello."

A tall and handsome man appeared in Selena’s field of vision.

"Hello, Mr. Kristos, is there something I can do for you?"

Selena nodded lightly.

Mr. Kristos had suffered some injuries during the divine punishment and was now being treated in a private hospital. He was wearing a patient’s uniform, with the pristine hospital walls behind him.

Selena didn’t like politicians; in her eyes, politicians were synonymous with liars. However, Mr. Kristos’s performance facing danger the previous night had gone beyond her expectations, temporarily extracting him from the group of deceivers, but she still held no good feelings towards politicians.

"It’s like this, Miss Selena, I would like to apply for a Dawn Medal for Roy," he said, looking at Selena without any superfluous words, getting straight to the point, "It may need the help of the Federal Bureau of Investigation."

The Dawn Medal is the highest honor granted by the Dawn City government, awarded to any citizen of Dawn City or of the Federation who has made exceptional contributions to the defense of the city. The awarding of this medal requires a proposal by the city government, to be reviewed by the city council, and both the recipient and their immediate family are entitled to various privileges such as tax exemptions.

This medal is also recognized by the federal government. Medal recipients upon death can be buried in Dumel National Cemetery with hero honors. Although the vast majority of the medal’s recipients are directly interred in Dumel National Cemetery, it’s almost impossible to receive this medal while alive.

"Can you persuade the city government?"

Selena was somewhat doubtful; she merely disliked politicians but was not ignorant of them or of politics. At the very least, she knew that Mr. Kristos and the mayor were archenemies.

"I can’t," Mr. Kristos shook his head, then he paused, "But those thousands of Dawn City citizens who survived because of Roy can, though I need the help of the Federal Bureau of Investigation."

Selena looked at the shortsword in her hands and nodded lightly, "Okay."

If she remembered correctly, this sword belonged to that silver-haired old gentleman.

----

Mr. Kristos laid down his bracelet, looking through the panoramic window screen of the hospital ward at the slowly rising morning sun outside.

Click—

The door was slowly pushed open.

A silver-haired man with a high ponytail and a broad-shouldered, burly man with a pompadour walked into the ward.

The silver-haired man looked at Mr. Kristos and smiled, "You called us here; have you made your decision?"

"I will become the Mayor of Dawn City," Mr. Kristos said calmly, looking straight at the two men before him, "and then change this city."

"That’s quite bold, but I like it."

The silver-haired man leaned against the wall, a smile on his face.

"What if you fail?"

The tall man took out a cigar, clipped off both ends, placed it in his mouth, and struck a match to light it slowly.

"If I fail, then I fail. At least," Mr. Kristos laughed, looking at the morning sun outside the window,

"We were here."

----

"Oh my dear miss, why so melancholy," Byrne said with a grin from the kitchen’s serving hatch, looking at Naomi, "perhaps you need some comfort from a man."

"Get lost."

Naomi rolled her eyes, took the plate, and for some reason felt somewhat restless.

Just as she delivered the plate to the customer, a man in a suit walked into the diner, "Excuse me, is Miss Naomi here?"

"She’s not," Naomi straightened up without turning around and casually asked, "What is it?"

"Ah?"

The lawyer was taken aback.

A silver-haired little girl came out from behind him, glanced at Naomi’s back, and said quietly, "That’s Naomi, tell her the news."

The man in the suit paused, then quickly understood, "Miss Naomi, I am not here to collect debts, I am Roy’s lawyer."

"What happened to Roy?"

Naomi was startled, turning around.

"According to Mr. Roy’s will," the lawyer took out a document, "all of his property, including this diner and the apartment behind the shop, as well as all stocks and savings he owned, these assets will be compiled as initial capital to establish a charity foundation. All income generated by this foundation will be invested in charity and relief efforts. He entrusted you and Miss Vianne to be the initial managers of this foundation."

Only then did Naomi notice the silver-haired young girl beside the lawyer.

The girl was wrapped in an oversized coat, with uneven silver short hair that seemed freshly cut. Her eyes were slightly red and swollen around the edges. She looked at Naomi as she turned to face her, pulled a smile, and said softly,

"Hello, I’m Vianne."

Naomi stood dumbfounded for a moment, looking bewildered at the two people before her, "So, Roy’s dead?"

The answer was a silent stillness.
