Chapter 1209: Chapter 1209: Main Material (Large Chapter for Monthly Pass)
At the moment the crimson eye was sliced open, the entire hall, along with the corridor, trembled violently.
The boiling crimson that blanketed the ground began to quake and evaporate at a visible speed, while the blood cloud covering the dome instantly shattered, transforming into a blood-colored mist that spread from top to bottom.
"Oooh—"
The giant wolf with the Chaos Magic Wand embedded in its brain roared fiercely, its trembling body struggling to reach the sky and bite at a falling object.
Scattered energy circuits flickered around the area of its brain, attempting to reassemble into a new energy focal point.
He Ao descended from above, landing firmly on the wolf’s head. He crouched down, gripping the Chaos Magic Wand lodged in the wolf’s head, and twisted it forcefully.
With a burst of crimson splatter, he abruptly stood up and yanked out the Chaos Magic Wand.
The giant wolf’s body quivered, its mouth opening as though to roar again, but its frame collapsed to the ground as if its bones had been removed.
He Ao sheathed his Blood Knife, held the Chaos Magic Wand, and stood atop the wolf’s head. He looked up at the blood mist above and stretched out his hand.
A bright yellow crystal eye slowly descended from the sky, landing precisely in his palm.
He Ao lowered his head, gazing at the crystal eye.
The eye wasn’t entirely spherical but appeared more elongated like an olive.
Its overall hue was a radiant yellow, though crimson glimmers could still be seen roaming within, adding a layer of bloody brilliance to the eye.
’Pseudo-Wolf’s Eye.’
He Ao glanced down at the pseudo-wolf’s head beneath his feet.
The top of the head bore a fine crack; it seemed there had once been an eye there as well.
He Ao tucked the crystal eye away, secured the Chaos Magic Wand to his waist, and leapt off the massive head.
The dense blood mist swirling around slowly descended like drifting fibers, obscuring his field of view.
In a corner of the hall, Xiya watched the blood mist sinking around her. She stepped back toward the wall, clutching the jade box in her hands and curling her body slightly.
Everything had happened too quickly just now. She hadn’t even had time to react before the dim, dense blood mist enveloped the area.
She dared not reach out to touch the blood mist, fearing some eerie force lurking within it.
The mist didn’t seem to spread out like the prior crimson glow did; beneath her feet lay an empty, untainted area.
It moved like actual scattered fog, accumulating and gradually drifting toward the corner where the young girl stood.
Xiya curled up her body and tightened her grip on the jade box, her gaze fixed on the eerie mist as she tried to press herself firmly against the wall.
Some of the mist descending from above reached her head, forcing her to crouch down and tuck herself into an even narrower corner.
Having witnessed the battle firsthand, she realized that compared to the strength of powerhouses at this level, her abilities were tantamount to those of a wolf-headed grunt.
The approaching mist closed in further, compressing the last bit of space around her. She inhaled slightly, holding her breath.
Bang—
At that moment, crisp footsteps echoed from deep within the mist.
Soon, the footsteps came to a stop before her.
Xiya lifted her head to gaze nervously at the dense fog in front of her.
The dense mist slowly parted to either side, revealing a blood-soaked figure stepping forward from within.
The crimson hilt of a blade jutted from his shoulder, his tall and broad silhouette appearing as solid as a wall, shielding her from the mist behind.
As he moved forward, the wind stirred by his motion dispersed some of the surrounding mist. He looked at the girl curled before him and extended his hand slowly.
Xiya glanced up at his figure. After a brief hesitation, she reached out her hand.
But as her hand extended halfway, she paused slightly, lowering her gaze to the jade box in her arms.
Did he want the jade box she was holding?
In the next moment, the blood-soaked figure grabbed her wrist with one hand, applying light pressure, and under her startled look, he pulled her to her feet.
Their figures swiftly vanished into the thick mist.
Xiya suddenly realized that some sort of invisible force had enveloped her body, isolating the surrounding mist.
By then, He Ao had already stretched out his hand to open the lid of the jade box she held.
The radiant dodecahedral diamond slowly emerged once more, hovering roughly twenty centimeters above the jade box.
A faint orange-gold sheen emanated from the diamond, brushing against the surrounding mist.
The bloodied mist, upon contact with this glow, melted away instantly like ice in sunlight.
Xiya stared blankly at the scene, unable to process what she was seeing.
So the object capable of dispersing the mist had been in her hands all along?
Under the illumination of the diamond’s glow, much of the surrounding mist dissipated rapidly.
He Ao glanced at the mist around them and refocused his gaze on the diamond hovering above the jade box.
The reddish mist surrounding them was actually the embodiment of the residual power of the pseudo-wolf, which had been polluted by the God of Chaos. As such, the mist carried traces of chaotic contamination.
Though the mist posed little threat to He Ao, low-level Transcendents like Xiya could be dangerously infected if they came into contact with it.
The diamond, however, was tainted with the pollution of the God of Order—a less aggressive contamination that Xiya’s willpower could still withstand. Testing it as a countermeasure had crossed He Ao’s mind, and to his surprise, it had worked effectively.
He lifted his head, sweeping his gaze over the quickly thinning mist.
Now, he began to understand why the pseudo-wolf had been so desperate to acquire the diamond.
Although the pseudo-wolf wasn’t entirely under the control of the chaotic pollution of the God of Chaos, the conflict between the chaotic forces and its innate life structure likely drove its mental state to extreme instability.
Under such conditions, it was highly likely to crave objects imbued with order-related power.
This diamond was a quintessential artifact of Order, bearing evident contamination from the God of Order. To the pseudo-wolf, whose psyche was already warped, the diamond’s allure would have been irresistible.
But the barrier array left behind by Denock was clearly designed to deal with the pseudo-wolf. Without mastery of Chaos Art, brute force attacks—whether from the wolf-headed men or even its own life force—would be futile against the barrier. The array would drain them dry.
Unable to breach the barrier yet unwilling to give up the treasure within, it had no choice but to wait until He Ao arrived.
However,
He Ao fixed his gaze on the diamond suspended in midair and reached out.
The diamond seemed to still be within the influence range of the jade box, subjected to a special interference that imbued it with certain physical properties.
This time, He Ao successfully touched the diamond, instead of his hand passing through it like flowing water as before.
As soon as he made contact, the twisted contamination of Order surged into his mind along with fragmented information.
Instantly, He Ao felt as though he had glimpsed the vast and majestic universe, where stars moved in a precise and orderly rhythm.
He had seen similar visions during the prior Order Divine Revelation.
He Ao withdrew his hand, gazing at the diamond.
Its contamination from Order was beyond what he had anticipated—highly concentrated and exceptionally pure.
However, most of this contamination appeared to be compressed within the diamond, rather than actively spreading outward.
Turning back to glance at the massive pseudo-wolf’s corpse faintly visible amidst the dissipating mist, He Ao pondered.
Even if the pseudo-wolf had obtained the diamond, it wouldn’t have been able to suppress or escape the pollution of the God of Chaos. Rather, the combination of Order and Chaos contamination would have driven it into complete madness—either leading to collapse or mutating entirely into an indescribable monstrosity.
In a matter of moments, the majority of the mist had dispersed, replaced by a glowing yellow light that illuminated the hall, now cracked and coated in dried crimson.
The dome’s original bright lights had been shattered during the battle’s aftermath, leaving only a few flickering fixtures to illuminate the dim hall.
"Let’s go,"
He Ao said as he looked at Xiya, who was clutching the jade box. He lifted the box slightly.
The diamond automatically descended, settling back into the jade box completely.
He closed the box’s lid, glanced at Xiya, and said softly, "Let’s check out this site’s control system."
"Alright."
Xiya nodded.
She glanced at He Ao, then at the pseudo-wolf’s corpse in front, before cautiously asking, "Mr. Suote, was that the pseudo-wolf?"
"Strictly speaking,"
He Ao replied casually, "It was a pseudo-wolf that had been completely mutated by chaotic pollution."
Xiya took another look at the wolf carcass, carefully stepping aside to walk around it.
He Ao chuckled softly at the girl’s wariness and said gently, "Don’t worry, it’s completely dead."
"Hehe."
Xiya scratched her head and matched her pace to He Ao’s.
Lowering her head, she glanced at the jade box in her arms and asked in a small voice, "Mr. Suote, is it okay for me to hold onto this?"
"It’s fine,"
He Ao shook his head and replied casually, "There shouldn’t be any other significant threats in this place."
The mutated pseudo-wolf was intrinsically connected to this structure through its slaughter, in a way merging with the site itself.
If not for He Ao using Chaos Art to extract its core and cutting open the illusionary blood-cloud eye and its energy focal point with the Blood Knife imbued with Divine Sense, defeating it within this structure would have been extremely difficult.
From the pseudo-wolf’s warped state, it seemed likely that it wouldn’t have left any survivors within the building.
"Oh."
Xiya nodded as she followed He Ao into the corridor they had entered earlier.
The dried blood remained fixed under the flickering lights, bathing the crimson-stained corridor in eerie illumination.
Walking through the hallway now, Xiya felt far more at ease than before.
She looked at the figure ahead of her and quickened her pace.
Their footsteps echoed through the silent corridor. Xiya glanced at He Ao, then at the jade box in her arms. Gathering her thoughts, she timidly asked, "Mr. Suote, what exactly is the diamond inside the jade box?"
"The Tree Heart of the Eternal Tree,"
He Ao recounted the information gleaned from his contact with the diamond and replied softly, "It has the ability to create a stabilizing effect within a defined range around it, counteracting entities or items with tendencies toward losing control. At the same time, it can calm people’s emotions nearby."
"Sounds like a pretty useful Extraordinary Item."
Xiya murmured softly.
"It is,"
He Ao nodded lightly, "If it weren’t contaminated."
His thoughts naturally drifted to the secret medicine formula he had retrieved from Weiken’s mind.
[Talent Sequence 177: Collaborator]
[Main Ingredient: Pseudo-Wolf’s Eye, River of Eternal Flow’s water]
[Auxiliary Ingredients: Half-Person’s Blood, 30 milliliters; Silver Mallow Grass, 30 grams; Fire Wolf Flower, 3 blossoms; Solid Ice, 200 grams]
[Preparation Method: Place the Pseudo-Wolf’s Eye into the Half-Person’s Blood and let it sit for 10 minutes. Combine the resultant mixture with 200 grams of Solid Ice and heat in a water bath at 80 degrees for 20 minutes. Then, add crushed Fire Wolf Flowers and continue heating in the water bath for another 10 minutes at 80 degrees. Filter the final solution and mix it with River of Eternal Flow’s water. Soak the solution in an ice bath at zero degrees for 20 minutes. Burn the Silver Mallow Grass and quickly add the resulting powder to the solution. Heat in an oil bath at 160 degrees until the powder completely dissolves. Filter the mixture and store the top layer of liquid in an ice bath maintained at zero degrees.]
[Promotion Ceremony: As the leader or Commander of at least 80 individuals, orchestrate a collective event that directly impacts a minimum of 10,000 people.]
This was the Collaborator secret medicine formula obtained by Weiken from Note Intelligence’s higher-ups, which was intended as leverage for negotiations with "Suote."
Although Borek had previously implanted a listening device in Weiken’s body, the formula wasn’t transmitted verbally but through encrypted channels to Weiken.
So He Ao had only just discovered this formula.
Moreover, this formula had slight differences from the incomplete secret medicine recipe He Ao had gleaned from his vision during the God of Order’s ’Divine Inspiration’ dream.
Shaking off his thoughts, He Ao paused in front of a blood-smeared surveillance camera.
He reached up and unplugged the cable behind the camera, scrutinizing the interface of the data cable.
It was a universal connector.
He promptly hooked the connector to his wristband.
[Accessing surveillance system...]
[Searching for control system...]
[Lock failed]
[Control system and surveillance system are not on the same network]
Eve’s notification appeared on his wristband.
[Locating main control room...]
[Location secured]
Soon, directional arrow markers surfaced on his wristband screen, guiding He Ao toward a specific location.
He followed the markers briskly.
Before long, he arrived at a metal door splattered with blood.
He Ao raised his foot and kicked the door open with a forceful strike.
A wave of thick blood stench surged forward.
Bloodstains were sprawled out on the ground near the doorway, suggesting that people might have been stationed here at some point.
They had likely fallen victim to the pseudo-wolf and transformed into wolf-headed men.
He Ao entered the room and observed his surroundings. The power system remained functional, and the equipment inside was still operational, with lights blinking across various devices.
Weaving through the room’s machinery, he quickly arrived at a console screen and connected a nearby data cable to his wristband.
[Accessing main control system...]
Eve’s interface displayed the notification.
"Mr. Suote, what are we doing next?"
Xiya queried uncertainly from behind He Ao.
"Let’s find out,"
He Ao scanned the auto-activated console screen beside him. "Why this branch of the Church of Chaos chose a place deeply imbued with Order as their site."
