Chapter 1208: Chapter 1208: Slaying the Pseudo-Wolf (Looking for Monthly Votes)

At this moment, what appeared in He Ao’s field of view was a giant wolf nearly ten meters long.

Its eyes were orange-yellow, with faint red glimmers flashing past.

Thick red light and the stench of blood entwined its crystalline fur, reflecting its form into a twisted and horrifying hellish creature.

On its neck and waist, faintly visible were the deep crimson marks embedded into its flesh, resembling scars left by chains.

Its gleaming eyes stared at He Ao, baring its teeth, exposing thin and sinister sharp fangs.

Among those fangs, one was missing its tip and bore a hump-like crack in its place.

Beside it, near the freshly shattered remains of the wolf-headed men, more wolf-headed men staggered forward, grotesque and menacing.

He Ao calmly observed everything before him, securing the slightly stabilized Chaos Magic Wand back onto his waist, while letting the blood-stained blade of his sword press into the crack on the crimson ground.

Twisted and malevolent light illuminated the region, with streaks of fresh blood seeping from the blood-soaked garment wrapped around He Ao.

The combat power of the ’Pseudo-Wolf’ before him clearly exceeded that of ordinary B-level exotic beasts.

Theoretically, it should have belonged to the Order Path as a transcendent being.

Now, however, He Ao could perceive a kind of volatile chaos emanating from it—a direct pollution from the God of Chaos.

It seemed its time at the Church of Chaos wasn’t pleasant; the bloodthirsty chaotic believers forced it to serve them using chains and secret techniques.

As ’compensation,’ after all the B-level forces left this stronghold, it annihilated the remaining chaotic believers, drained them of blood, and converted them into puppet monsters.

During its time with the Church of Chaos, it seemed to have learned a few ’new tricks.’

He Ao gazed down at the glowing crimson ground.

This was hardly the power of ’Order.’

Yet, evidently the Pseudo-Wolf had not mastered anything resembling ’Chaos Art’; otherwise, it wouldn’t have been helpless against the barrier here.

Certainly, the Pseudo-Wolf wasn’t about to give He Ao any time to rest.

This was He Ao’s weakest moment, and the endless undead wolf-headed men could assist it in swiftly killing He Ao.

Their ’standoff’ lasted but a fleeting instant, as the blood-soaked giant wolf lowered its head and let out a resounding roar.

Immediately, the surrounding wolf-headed men jerked their bodies and lunged forward collectively, surrounding He Ao’s position.

As the wolf-headed men encased He Ao once again, the giant wolf raised its razor-sharp claws, let out a deep growl, and in a flash, shot towards He Ao like a streak of light.

He Ao eyed the incoming light, his body visibly weary.

This time, he ignored the wolf-headed men surrounding him and instead calmly gripped his blade, fixing his gaze ahead.

Countless wolf-headed men swung their claws at his body, while the rushing giant wolf closed the gap in mere moments.

And yet, even then, He Ao refrained from raising his blade, simply staring ahead with composure.

Seeing this, the giant wolf’s movement didn’t falter—it swung its claw forward with a deafening sonic boom, slashing at He Ao.

"Awooooo—"

It was in this instant that one of the wolf-headed men near He Ao abruptly let out a furious howl, swinging its claw at the blood-soaked giant wolf.

The claw left no visible injury on the giant wolf.

But it caused a brief hesitation in the wolf’s motion.

Following that, more wolf-headed men began turning towards the blood-soaked giant wolf, launching attacks against it.

These wolf-headed men were no pushovers; even with the giant wolf’s considerable defenses, deep gashes were swiftly carved onto its body.

"Awooooo—"

The giant wolf seemed unable to comprehend what was happening—it let out an enraged growl and shifted its claw attack downward, sweeping aside the surrounding wolf-headed men attacking it.

Meanwhile, holding his blood-stained blade, He Ao finally made his first move since the initial confrontation.

He abruptly stepped forward, cutting through the wolf-headed men rushing at him from all sides, swinging his blade without pause, striking directly at the giant wolf’s forehead as its claw redirected to swat away the wolf-headed men.

Long-weapon martial technique!

The blood-red blade split the blood-plastered forehead in an instant, slicing through its skull and driving the tip deep into the giant wolf’s brain.

This was the central hub for the majority of the energy circuits within this body.

Bowing slightly, He Ao pulled out the Chaos Magic Wand from his waist, casting a fleeting glance at the wolf-headed men charging at the fallen giant wolf.

These wolf-headed men were already dead; what the Pseudo-Wolf controlled were their lifeless bodies.

However, He Ao also possessed an item capable of influencing corpses.

That item was the Chaos Magic Wand’s passive ability — ’Chaotic Soul.’ This ability was not derived from Denock, but was an anomalous power born from the God of Chaos’s pollution after Denock’s death.

It allowed the corpses around He Ao to ’move’ again, indiscriminately attacking everyone nearby.

The ability was passively activated and uncontrollable.

Until now, He Ao had refrained from triggering this ability, prepared for its inevitably erratic nature.

But in practice, He Ao discovered that this ability wasn’t entirely beyond control.

For instance, when a corpse became sufficiently influenced by Chaotic Soul, He Ao could faintly sense its progression.

Additionally, he could discern when a corpse was about to become fully ’ensouled,’ reanimated, and reborn as a monstrous entity attacking indiscriminately.

Throughout his earlier skirmishes against the wolf-headed men, He Ao had deliberately prolonged the battle—partly to lure out hidden dangers and partly to observe whether the wolf-headed men could be affected by ’Chaotic Soul.’

The result was affirmative: as an ability mutated by the God of Chaos’s pollution, Chaotic Soul seemed to hold a high level of influence.

After absorbing the surrounding chaotic pollution via the Chaos Magic Wand, Chaotic Soul’s range of influence seemed to expand—from fifty meters to one hundred meters.

By adjusting his positioning, nearly the entire hall and part of the corridors now fell within his range.

The surrounding wolf-headed men continued relentlessly attacking the giant wolf, whose body trembled uncontrollably as He Ao’s blade pierced its brain, draining its strength and collapsing its massive frame to the ground.

Even so, He Ao’s movements did not halt—he raised the Chaos Magic Wand he had just unsheathed and drove it forcefully into the gaping wound left by the blood blade in the giant wolf’s head.

"Ugh—"

Initially appearing near-death while sprawled on the ground, the giant wolf roared and abruptly stood, violently shaking its head in a futile attempt to dislodge He Ao perched atop.

But the blood blade was buried deep within its brain, and He Ao, gripping the hilt, crouched slightly to stabilize his stance amidst the wild thrashing, remaining unfazed as he drove the Chaos Magic Wand further into its skull.

At this moment, he briefly relinquished control over the wand’s suppression.

Fierce chaotic pollution surged into the giant wolf’s body, spreading through its energy circuits, permeating every inch of its being.

Chaos Art!

This chaotic energy further detonated the dormant unstable pollution hidden within the shadows.

A dense network of energy circuits crumbled instantly under the power of Chaos Art.

The struggling giant wolf let out an enraged wail, while the crimson filling the hall now rippled violently, resembling boiling water.

Crouched in a corner against a wall, Xiya watched as the crimson pool spread towards her feet, threatening to consume the final patch of ground beneath her.

Just as the crimson was about to reach her, it abruptly halted, rippling fiercely once again.

Xiya lifted her gaze towards He Ao in the distance, only to see the crimson brilliance converging at the top of the hall.

And beneath the eerie bloodlight atop the hall, He Ao—a figure cloaked in blood—stood atop the giant, horrific wolf head, unmoving as the wolf head thrashed about violently.

A knight out of ancient legends, subduing a fearsome monster.

The crimson light grew denser in the sky, layer upon layer amassing into what looked like blood-red clouds covering the firmament, forming a new heaven.

At the center of this heaven, the twisted blood clouds writhed, as if something within was struggling, gestating.

Standing atop the wolf head, He Ao gazed upward at the writhing, blood-red clouds, tightening his grip on his blood-stained blade.

The appearance of the giant wolf aligned with the Broken Tooth Pseudo-Wolf state once witnessed by Queke; perhaps the original Pseudo-Wolf looked like this, though the current Pseudo-Wolf was anything but ordinary.

After enduring the God of Chaos’s pollution and annihilating this entire Church of Chaos stronghold, the Pseudo-Wolf had become so grotesquely distorted that retaining its original appearance was itself an anomaly.

He Ao had been carrying the Broken Tooth of the Pseudo-Wolf all along; according to Queke’s notes, this broken tooth could draw the Pseudo-Wolf’s attention.

The theory proved correct, as He Ao sensed an invisible gaze fixed on him since entering this stronghold.

That gaze had been tracking him from the moment he stepped inside.

Yet, the entity remained cautious, refraining from attacking until He Ao reached the inner depths of the hall.

Even then, He Ao could not locate the entity’s true essence.

Initially, He Ao suspected the Pseudo-Wolf possessed a form of stealth.

But then, after hearing Xiya’s account of her experience in the corridor.

He Ao began contemplating another possibility—that the Pseudo-Wolf had undergone some manner of even greater abnormal transformation.

From the ephemeral wolf head at the start to the current giant wolf:

Both forms harbored incomplete energy circuits, seemingly connected to something elsewhere.

Thus, He Ao employed the ’Chaotic Soul’ ability, influencing the wolf-headed men controlled by the Pseudo-Wolf and subsequently dismantling the giant wolf’s energy hub.

He knew the giant wolf was attempting to feign death to deceive him, but he remained unbothered.

His true aim lay in leveraging the Chaos Magic Wand’s chaotic pollution to follow the energy circuits and spread its influence to the hidden core.

Though the Pseudo-Wolf was riddled with chaotic pollution, its overall structure still leaned toward Order—its desire for the Divine Stone attested to this.

The impact of chaotic pollution could temporarily destabilize its state.

Then, He Ao seized the opportunity to activate ’Chaos Art.’

Chaos Art could affect energy circuits, influence spells, and manipulate such peculiar and sinister abilities.

Directly deploying Chaos Art required a steep price, so He Ao prepped several preliminary steps.

If the Pseudo-Wolf’s true core wasn’t dug out, the giant wolves and monsters would arguably remain ’undead’ to some extent—given He Ao’s injuries, he might actually perish through attrition here.

He Ao’s focus shifted to the blood clouds above, where an intangible yet chaotic force writhed, gathering and coalescing.

Slowly, it condensed into a fog-like blood-red eye.

The eye throbbed, twisted, exuding an ominous contamination and terrifying chaos.

But now, the eye appeared to experience interference—its form convulsing, occasionally detonating into scattered clouds, only to be drawn back again by an unseen pull into something resembling an eye.

The eye fluctuated wildly, oscillating between tangible and intangible states.

Gradually, however, the eye regained stability, its orderly form persisting visibly longer each time.

The eye twitched and warped, but it was rapidly escaping its chaotic state.

Standing atop the wolf head, He Ao observed everything coldly, watching the eye pulse between order and chaos, tracking the shifting frequency—a calculating machine tallying every minute detail.

After countless iterations of shifting between order and chaos, the eye once more settled into a stable form.

Over time, its state grew increasingly stable, its edges far less distorted.

At that moment, He Ao abruptly withdrew the blood blade embedded in the wolf’s head, gripping it with both hands, raising it high, and leaping upward.

The blood-red glow streaked through the sky, charging straight toward the massive eye in the firmament.

The eye lowered its gaze, recognizing He Ao’s upward approach.

The blood-stained clouds blanketing the sky churned, revealing twisted wolf heads emerging from their shadows, aimed at He Ao below.

From the shadows, they detached, adorned with blood-red and vibrant yellow light, descending like torrential rain.

The wolf heads filled the entire sky, aiming to block He Ao’s ascent.

Yet, He Ao seemed utterly unfazed by the wolf heads, continuing his charge toward the heavens, the blood-red glow waving unyieldingly forward.

The wolf heads opened their menacing mouths and lunged at the crimson light.

Just as one of the wolf heads was about to reach He Ao, the enormous blood-red eye in the sky flickered violently, then suddenly shattered.

The countless twisted wolf heads dissolved into blood-cloud mist simultaneously with the eye’s collapse.

Without hesitation, He Ao’s form sliced through the wolf-head-splintered mist, continuing his climb towards the heavens.

The blood dispersion of the clouds momentarily regrouped into the unnatural eye.

The eye cast its chilling gaze downward, and the blood-light from the blade had already reached its front.

The eye, now even more solidified in its shape, summoned wolf heads from within its crimson clouds almost instantly.

But it was far too late.

The blood-hued blade, imbued with the Divine Stone’s energy, pierced the blood-red eye from its center, infiltrating its energy circuits, splitting it entirely apart as though cleaving the sky in two.
