Chapter 1183: Chapter 1183: Reunion with an Old Friend in Yilan (Seeking Monthly Pass)
Not until the green light completely vanished did an elegant figure with white hair appear across from He Ao.
He looked up at He Ao, raised his hand, took out a cup of coffee from the void, brought it to his lips, gently blew off the steam, and asked in a low voice, "Favored of Life, what brings you to my humble spot?"
"I should not have leaked any power,"
He Ao lifted his head, looking at the white-haired man, "Is that device at the city gate monitoring pollution your doing?"
He asked with a smile, "Is it actually a mysticism instrument? Once the device detects a certain level of pollution, you can sense it?"
"The sensor is an item inscribed with mystic runes,"
The white-haired figure took a sip of coffee, speaking softly, "The rest is just normal electronic gadgetry. Mysticism and electronics are both parts of this world; they do not conflict with each other."
Hearing his words, He Ao nodded slightly.
"So,"
The white-haired figure placed the coffee on the table, calmly lifted his head, and gazed at He Ao, "Why exactly have you come here?"
"For matters not so closely related to Life,"
He Ao smiled, with intended implication, "I carry the power of Life, but might not be wholly devoted to the Favored of Life."
And hearing his words, the white-haired man seemed to recall something, paused for a moment, and looked up at He Ao.
Click—
Yet before he could ask further questions, the door behind him was slowly pushed open.
He turned around, just in time to see the elderly figure standing at the doorway.
"Speaker Levi?"
Corvey looked at the white-haired figure sitting opposite He Ao, slightly startled, and said with some surprise, "You’re here because?"
"Just checking on the situation,"
Levi nodded at him lightly, "You don’t need to mind me."
With that, his figure became dimmer and more elusive, instinctively causing one to overlook him.
"Very well."
Corvey nodded somewhat puzzledly, glancing at He Ao who had picked up the coffee to drink again.
He seated himself next to Levi, placing the tablet on the table, and looked up at He Ao, "Mr. Pete, do you need something from me?"
"May I use this for a moment?"
He Ao pointed to the tablet on the table, asking in a slowed tone.
"Certainly."
Corvey pushed the tablet towards He Ao.
He Ao took the tablet, quickly logged into an anonymous network drive, downloaded a document, opened it, then passed the tablet back to Corvey.
Corvey bowed his head to look at the content on the tablet, surprised as he saw each photo blurry under the cover of night, lifting his head, "What is this place?"
"The wilderness between Yilan City and Limen City,"
He Ao said calmly, "Soon, these Mercenary Corps will pass north of Yilan City, heading east."
"Heading east? What is their target in the east?"
Corvey was slightly taken aback, "What’s on the east side?"
Then he suddenly realized something, looking at He Ao, "You’re here for more than just to inform me of this news, aren’t you?"
"On the north side of Yilan City, there is a valley road from the cataclysmic times, with high mountains on both sides and a long, narrow path,"
He Ao regarded Corvey, "If one doesn’t take the trade routes when moving from west to east, this valley road is the nearest and easiest, suitable for those in a hurry."
"You’re suggesting, they will definitely take this valley road?"
Corvey quickly grasped He Ao’s intention, looking at him, he said in a low voice, "You want to find someone to deal with these Mercenary Corps?"
He rested his hand on the table, falling into thought,
"I haven’t heard any news of these Mercenary Corps, which proves that their movements have not been made public. In theory, as long as the corporations do not engage in illegal excesses, they have no obligation to reveal the movements of the Mercenary Corps.
"They choose to disclose it merely to remind other trade caravans and corporations along the route, to avoid unexpected conflicts. If they’re not afraid of these conflicts, naturally there’s no need to announce them."
He lifted his gaze, gazing at He Ao, and continued in a low voice,
"As the behavior of the corporations is legal, the Federal Central Army has no reason to get involved, and the nearest Central Army would need more than a day to arrive here. Even if they wanted to intervene, by the time they arrive, the others would likely have already reached their destination.
"The Nolanka Group’s Mercenary Corps might offer help, but Kaye City is too far from here, and distant water can’t quench immediate thirst."
He looked at He Ao, speaking slowly, "Showing me these documents is pointless. No one nearby can stop these Mercenary Corps."
He Ao looked at Corvey, smiling, "Actually, there is."
"You want the City Defense Army of Yilan City to move out."
Corvey looked down, his gaze fixated on He Ao, hoarsely said, "There’s no precedent for the City Defense Army to sortie and intercept Mercenary Corps in the Federation’s history."
"In desperate times, one must adopt desperate measures,"
He Ao said calmly, "General Corvey is a smart man. You should know what impact it would have on Yilan City if these Mercenary Corps succeed. After the biggest obstacle is removed, do you think the consortium will spare the rest?"
Then, without waiting for Corvey to reply, he continued, "Moreover, it’s not just this group of mercenaries. There are others coming from the north and south, and the Nolanka Group Mercenary Corps has already set out to intercept the ones from the south."
Hearing this, Corvey’s expression changed slightly as he looked up at He Ao, "How can I be sure you can be trusted?"
"The trail of the Mercenary Corps passing by Yilan City can be found not far outside the city. You just have to send someone to check,"
He Ao continued naturally, "As for other matters,"
He raised his head and looked towards Levi, "Mr. Levi can attest to my reliability."
Corvey subconsciously followed his gaze and when he saw the state of the silver-haired figure, he was suddenly stunned.
He remembered the ’conversation’ he just had with Levi, but after the ’Speaker’ said, ’Don’t worry about me,’ Corvey felt as if he had truly ’overlooked’ the fact that the Speaker was sitting right beside him.
He knew someone was sitting by his side, and he knew this person was the ’Angel’ who protected the entirety of Yilan City.
But in his heart, there were no thoughts related to this Angel; all his attention was focused on He Ao, who was talking to him.
It wasn’t until He Ao reminded him that he suddenly realized that there was an ’Angel’ sitting beside him.
"How do you want me to prove it?"
At this point, Levi’s somewhat ethereal figure returned to its normal state, and he looked at He Ao, asking with interest.
He Ao did not directly answer him but instead raised his hand, with a faint white glow gathering at his fingertips.
His fingers, like a brush, started to trace in the void, and soon, a complex character ’K’ resembling both a weapon and a tentacle appeared in the air.
Almost at the instant the character emerged, the white symbol immediately diffused a distorted red light, and a dense, murmuring whisper suddenly rose from the void.
Levi raised his head, looking at the character shrouded in red light, his gaze profound.
By this time, He Ao had already withdrawn his hand. The symbol, lacking the support of power, naturally crumbled, dissolving into a mix of red and white glows that faded under the lights.
Levi shifted his gaze, looking deeply at He Ao.
A slight greenish glow gathered in his pupils, tinging them with a faint green hue.
Those eyes seemed to pierce through the void, through the soul, penetrating into He Ao’s consciousness.
But ultimately, Levi did not attempt to probe further into He Ao’s ’Soul,’ and he withdrew his gaze.
In the battle half a year ago, ’Linen’ used power that resembled that of the War God, and at the same time, Levi sensed the involvement of Life Force in the end, which he remembered.
It was precisely because of the involvement of Life Force that he was able to sit here, conversing amicably with the ’Favored’ of life.
He turned his head, glancing at Corvey beside him, and said softly, "You can trust this man."
Corvey was slightly taken aback as he recollected the symbol He Ao had just drawn.
Was it ’K’?
But they didn’t ask how Corvey had recognized it and slowly said, "Speaker Levi..."
"I only care about the safety of Yilan City. I’m not concerned with the rest,"
Levi spoke slowly, lifting his hand, "You are the managers of this city, you decide."
As he spoke, a verdant glow spread from his body, and then his figure rapidly faded until he completely disappeared.
Looking at the now empty seat in front of him, Corvey turned back to He Ao.
It seemed Levi was not interested in getting involved, but he said he would be responsible for the ’safety’ of Yilan City - that was a clear stance.
With an Angel protecting, the possibility of ’moving’ the City Defense Army stations on the walls became viable.
"This is a matter of great significance. Although the Federation laws do not restrict this, historically, there has been no precedent for the City Defense Army to leave the city and fight in the wilderness,"
Corvey looked at He Ao, speaking in a hoarse voice, "I still need to discuss this with the Mayor and the Cabinet."
"I hope everything can be expedited,"
He Ao said softly, "We don’t have time."
"I know,"
Corvey nodded slightly, looking at He Ao, "If we are to send troops, will you join us?"
"I have already delivered the message, and I must leave now."
He Ao shook his head gently, speaking softly.
The governance team of Yilan City was selected by him. With Levi’s stance, there should be no worries, and it’s highly likely this will succeed.
Originally, He Ao planned to have Corvey take him to see Levi. He didn’t expect Levi to come by himself, which saved him some trouble.
A single Exchange Star can only redeem 12 hours of a Saint’s time. From yesterday till now, plus the time spent struggling with the Life Goddess, he didn’t have much time left.
If the process here became any more complicated, he would have to spend more Exchange Stars to extend his use time.
"Alright then,"
As He Ao stood up, Corvey watched him and hesitated for a moment before asking in a low voice, "Are you really that ’Pete’? Pete from Pet-Qiming Medical College?"
