Chapter 1184: Chapter 1184: Guided by Fate (Two more Chapters for monthly votes)
"Since General Corvey could name Qiming Medical College, he must have seen my photo,"
He Ao looked at Corvey with a smile, "Then why ask again?"
Upon hearing He Ao’s response, Corvey paused for a moment, then continued to ask, "Are you, a person of ’K’?"
This time, He Ao did not answer, merely straightening his clothes and revealing an enigmatic smile, "I must leave now, General Corvey."
He walked towards the exit of the room, gently opened the door, and headed outside.
In the room, the aged general bowed his head, gazing at the information on the tablet on the table, falling into silence.
——
Minte City·Northern District
Weiken, clad in a black trench coat, quickly turned into a side alley.
The alley was silent, with only a few rays of sunlight struggling through the gaps between buildings, barely dispelling the shadows and bringing a hint of light to the dark alley.
Weiken glanced upwards but did not see the familiar figure with red hair. Instead, there were two figures in security uniforms standing at the entrance of the alley.
Weiken walked up to the two security personnel.
"Commander!"
The initially listless security staff immediately perked up, saluting Weiken.
"Where’s Borek?"
Weiken quickly asked.
"Reporting to the Commander, he went to the restroom,"
the security personnel on the left immediately replied, gesturing towards the shadow-filled depths of the alley, "He should be inside. Although he’s been gone for a while, he should be back soon."
Upon hearing this, Weiken’s expression subtly shifted. He gave the two a quick glance and firmly instructed, "You two stay here, and do not allow anyone to enter or leave."
"Yes!"
Both immediately responded, saluting again.
But Weiken had no time to acknowledge their salute, stepping straight ahead towards the deeper part of the alley.
The man in the black trench coat followed suit.
The security personnel on the left initially wanted to reach out to stop the black trench coat figure but was held back by the one on the right, letting the man pass by.
"What are you doing holding me back? Didn’t Mr. Weiken say to not let anyone in?"
"Are you brainless? That guy is obviously with Mr. Weiken, and he looks quite tough. Do you think we could take him on?"
Their low conversation echoed in the quiet alley, while Weiken continued inward, covering roughly a couple of hundred meters, until finally reaching the end of the alley.
There stood a low wall blocking the alley, in front of which sat a large garbage bin with a lid, about one meter tall. Stepping on the bin, one could easily climb over the wall.
Weiken stopped in front of the garbage bin, his expression somber.
At that moment, the man in the black trench coat caught up. He looked at Weiken, his voice hoarse, "Did he run off?"
"Yeah."
Weiken didn’t elaborate, his gaze sweeping the surroundings. Quickly, his eyes landed on a small note sticking to the side of the garbage bin.
He went over to look at the note.
The note, written in irregular handwriting, read:
’Pretense of sincerity, failure of trust. A beast in clothing, a ludicrous spectacle.’
Weiken’s face darkened as he reached out and ripped off the note.
Snap—
As he did so, it was as if a thin line attached to the note suddenly snapped.
Beep beep beep—
A sharp and urgent sound immediately began to ring out from inside the garbage bin.
Weiken’s and the black trench coat figure’s faces changed, with Weiken leaping backward without hesitation, while the black trench coat figure yanked on him, rolling away to a distance.
Soon, the piercing sound ceased abruptly, but the anticipated explosion didn’t occur.
Weiken stumbled to his feet, patting off the dust on his body.
The man in the black trench coat went over, opened the lid of the garbage bin, and lifted his head to look at Weiken, "It’s an electronic alarm clock."
At that, Weiken’s expression completely sank.
Not only had their quarry escaped, he’d even mocked them with this stunt. With a Transcendent of the Church of Chaos protecting him, even if it was a real bomb, he may not have been in trouble, but planting an electronic alarm clock here was mocking them too brazenly.
"Is this guy an undercover agent? Will something happen because he ran?"
The man in the black trench coat said in a low voice.
"It’s fine, I avoided him for all our key operations, he doesn’t know our plans,"
Weiken said with a pale face, coughing lightly, his voice still quivering slightly.
The blast from Suote previously had left a sort of permanent ’trauma’ in his mind, so much so that now when he deals with anything related to bombs, he gets a stress reaction.
"As long as it doesn’t affect the plan, it’s good,"
The man in the black trench coat lifted his head to Weiken’s direction.
Then he suddenly realized that the glow from the rooftop of the building opposite was flickering.
Without hesitation, he charged, pushing Weiken aside.
Bang—
Accompanied by a soft sound, a sharp bullet hit the chest of the man in the black trench coat, tearing a big hole through his chest.
Weiken, watching all of this unfold, took no time to look back at the fallen man, turned around, and rushed without hesitation to the low wall at the end of the alley, stepping on the garbage bin to leap over the wall and roll into the shadows of the corridor behind it.
The man in the black windbreaker stood still, lowering his head to look at the opening in his chest, as blood spilled from the corner of his mouth.
He thought it was just an ordinary sniper rifle; with the body of a Transcendent who had received Grace, he could still resist for a moment.
He hadn’t expected the other party to directly use a high-powered heavy electromagnetic sniper rifle.
His body leaned forward, falling into the pool of fresh blood.
Meanwhile, atop a distant low-rise building, a figure with red hair raised the heavy sniper rifle in their hands.
The bullet just now was actually a bit off, at most it would have taken off Weiken’s hand.
But Borek hadn’t expected the thug from the Church of Chaos to charge forwards so confidently, running right into the bullet’s path.
And Weiken, making use of his teammate’s corpse as ’cover’, didn’t hesitate to vault over the wall and escape.
Behind that wall was the blind spot for this position; many spaces were out of sight, and Borek couldn’t be sure where Weiken was.
However, with this, the mission was considered complete.
Borek stowed the sniper rifle into a metal guitar case next to him, slung the case over his shoulder, and swiftly walked away.
Weiken’s men should be surrounding this building any moment now.
······
On the other side, Weiken wiped the blood from his face and leaned against the towering wall, swiftly speaking into his wristband, "There’s a sniper on the rooftop of the low-rise building across the alleyway, send two people to kill him. This position is already exposed, everyone still here should immediately move,"
He paused, took a breath, and said with a cold tone, "As for the rest, start the operation! Stir up chaos in this city."
Leaning against the wall, he looked back at the wall behind him, as if his gaze could penetrate the wall and see the low-rise building where the sniper lay in ambush.
’Suote’, ’Borek’, wait until I regain power, I will let you know what ’worse than death’ means.
——
Yilan City·South Gate
He Ao ambled out of the city gate, the bright sunlight shining on his cheeks, and the oncoming cold wind playing through his hair.
Buzz—
A light sound came from his hand.
He raised his hand, a brand new bracelet was now worn on his wrist.
This was given to him by General Corvey via a Guard when he left, in order to facilitate contact with him.
At this moment, there was one new message on the bracelet, and just this one new message.
The message was sent by General Corvey, and it was simple, ’The Mayor and the Cabinet have agreed to dispatch troops.’
He Ao lowered his wristband and looked up once again at the brilliant sunlight in the sky.
"The weather’s not bad today."
A gentle and magnetic voice sounded in He Ao’s ear.
He Ao turned his head, and a white-haired figure had appeared beside him at some point, also gazing up at the sun in the sky.
"Indeed,"
He Ao nodded slightly, looking at the white-haired figure beside him, he asked softly, "Do you have a way that relies on a certain main ingredient to find the other ingredients in a Secret Medicine recipe?"
"If there was such a method, there wouldn’t have been so many people who died for the sake of promotion during the Era of the Great Cataclysm,"
Levi shook his head and spoke softly,
"The formula for Secret Medicine is not set in stone; the main ingredient is the core, the carrier of the Talent Sequences.
"The auxiliary ingredients and the mixing techniques are all for better extracting the power of the Talent Sequences from the main ingredient, while neutralizing its toxicity,
"And the rites, they are to synchronize the body and Soul of the Promoter with the Talent Sequences in the Secret Medicine, to reduce the conflict between them, and to better absorb the power of the Talent Sequences.
"The Secret Medicine formulas that are currently passed down, some have been tried out over many years by many people with many lives; of course, there’s also a portion that is directly bestowed by Divine Beings."
He looked at He Ao, "There are only three ways to obtain a Secret Medicine formula: first, to try it out yourself; second, to inquire of those who have the formula; third, to offer sacrifices at the altar and pray to the corresponding Divine Beings or the God of Knowledge for enlightenment."
He paused, then continued, "However, if you have an incomplete formula and want to complete it or verify its authenticity, there is one method that can help you, and that is to follow the ’guidance of fate’."
"Guidance of fate?"
He Ao looked at him.
Under He Ao’s gaze, Levi raised his hand and drew a complex pattern of circles within circles in the air.
Then he lowered his hand and looked at He Ao, "This is the ’Fate Guiding Rune’ I obtained by chance and then made some improvements to, making it more sensitive to Mysticism Knowledge.
"If you want to verify the authenticity of some Mysticism Knowledge, or complete a partially incomplete piece, you can use the best Transcendent materials to draw this rune on your hand, and then you will vaguely feel the ’guidance of fate’."
"It may be a thought, or a Perception; of course, there might also be no effect at all. You’ll understand when you use it,
"The deeper your connection with this Mysticism Knowledge, the more precise the guidance of fate. However,"
The intricate rune in the air slowly faded away, and Levi turned his gaze towards the vast snowy plain before him,
"Using this rune will consume your Life and Soul, and even require a blood sacrifice when fate involves too much,
"The guidance of fate may not always lead you to favorable outcomes; do not place your blind faith in fate.
"If you accept too many gifts from fate, it might also draw you into greater troubles."
His tone was gentle and prolonged, "Use it cautiously."
"Alright."
He Ao glanced at the rune that had almost disappeared into the void, nodding lightly, "Thank you."
"It’s nothing, just a gesture,"
Levi shook his head slightly, not looking at He Ao, but muttered softly, "Do you think, can a person really be resurrected from death?"
"Who knows? How do we truly define when a person has died?"
He Ao shook his head, he lifted his feet, stepping on the road, taking steps towards the depths of the snowy plain.
The white-haired figure just stood at the gate, watching the fur-clad figure disappear into the vast expanse of snow.
