Volume 5 Chapter 56: White Snow and Red Lotus

(Walson)

In the early morning, the sky remained dim, and the streets were desolate.

Outside the North Road gate, Melon was helping me load various luggage onto the [Dog House].

Derisha, Barella, Grace, Alice, and Tanaya were all in position. Through the window, I could see them happily chatting.

"That should be about it. Hmm, it's unusually cold today," I said, clapping my hands. The last storage box was already in the carriage.

I breathed in the dry, cold air— Although it was already mid-autumn, the weather had turned cold rather quickly.

Walking to the front of the vehicle, I cheerfully tied the reins and the lively Rifle barked. I patted its fluffy head, rubbed its ears, and then took out a small piece of meat from my inventory to feed it.

As for Derisha's black horse, it was currently being ridden by Chuck. His riding skills were unexpectedly good. According to Alice, this horse's temperament was not ordinary— or has it been completely trained by Derisha?

Chuck rode Little Black around the carriage a few times. As the one who invited us on this journey, he naturally joined us and would also act as our guide.

It seemed he hoped that I would return with him to help build something. However, according to what he said, because it involved sensitive matters, he would explain everything to me after we entered Ironburg.

On the other side, the female hero Belle was riding her sturdy Griffin, ready to depart at any moment.

Her expression was solemn, and she seemed very tense, constantly watching the distant sky— She had been like this since the conversation ended yesterday. Whenever I tried to ask her something, she would hurriedly go pack her luggage. When I tried to ask Krista, she just said I would know sooner or later.

But from her partial words, it could be inferred that some enemy was coming, I believe they are called [Dawn Hunters]?

—Speaking of Krista, I turned my head to look at her. She was standing on a tower tens of meters away, facing away from us, staring at the rising dawn.

"Master, here's some water for you. You've worked hard," Melon, who had also finished packing, walked over with a water bottle.

"Ah, thanks, Melon. You should get on the carriage first," I said, taking the water bottle.

"Yes, Master."

The sun had risen, and it was about time to set off. Although I didn't know why we were required to wait until the sun rose before leaving, well, it didn't matter. I would just follow along without any complaints…

Huh? Wait, sunrise!? Can [Skeleton Archers] be exposed to the sun!? I remember those undead mobs from Minecraft would combust if exposed to the sun!

I quickly turned my head to look at Krista standing on the clock tower.

To my surprise, she stood there without flinching, facing the morning sunlight. With her left hand raised, the leather coat she wore was blown away by the wind!

"Walson, I'll block this one for you as a greeting gift. You won't have this chance next time!" Krista's hearty voice echoed.

In her raised left hand, numerous bone spikes protruded, eventually forming into a huge axe.

As she exhaled a puff of smoke, flames erupted from her body, engulfing her in raging fire.

—Hold on a second! She's a Vassal of The Flame! The creature most afraid of fire actually became a Vassal of The Flame!?

As the flames rose, what followed wasn't intense heat but bone-chilling cold. A thin layer of frost unexpectedly formed on the water bottle in my hand!

A strange sensation appeared on my skin, and as I looked up at the sky, it was covered in white, snow falling without any warning?

In the southern sky, clouds unexpectedly gathered, bringing gusts of cold wind. Faint sounds of a thousand horses galloping could be heard within the clouds, rapidly approaching in this direction.

"She's here! Let's go!" Belle saw the scene and didn't say much. She just quickly turned around and urged her mount forward.

The Griffin started galloping ahead, soon spreading its wings and taking flight.

I hurriedly jumped onto the front seat of the wolf carriage, pulled the lever to activate the auxiliary power of the [Dog House], and commanded Rifle to go full speed ahead. Although Chuck didn't fully understand the current situation, he still drove Little Black forward and gave me a look that said, "Explain it to me later."

Following the planned route, we swiftly moved forward. As we crossed over hills and small mountains, I took out a telescope and glanced back.

Through the thick clouds, I seemed to faintly see a figure wearing a large military robe, a skull mask, and wielding a longbow.

The labyrinthine city disappeared before my eyes. Behind us, the sky was swallowed by pure white snow and consumed by raging red flames.
