Volume 5 Chapter 55: Two Organizations
(Walson)
To be honest, after seeing Lori Aivett with my own eyes, I've had suspicions for a while.
Are there only a few of us reincarnators like Grace?
If so, why haven't I heard any related news in the several years since I was born? If not, then what about Lori Aivett, the reincarnator of the [Wither]?
Perhaps it's because information dissemination in this world isn't well developed, or maybe these reincarnators haven't gained fame due to their innate abilities.
I initially speculated this and applied the idea to all reincarnators until I met Krista in front of me. Then I finally realized that this speculation was only half correct, or rather, it only applies to the Eastern nations.
17 years ago, for unknown reasons, various blocky creatures began appearing in this world, and both Grace and I were born at that time. From the information I've gathered—it seems that all reincarnators were born in that year.
The "reincarnators" from the Western nations, no, that's wrong. Since their previous lives were just some computer programs, they didn't have the concept of reincarnation at all. They believe they originated from these inexplicable blocky creatures' "mutations," so they call themselves mutants.
And the one in front of me— is actually a Skeleton Archer!? Wait, wait, wait, you don't look anything like one!?
"You think I don't look the part, huh? Well, that's true. Not every variant of the Skeleton Archer prototype ends up as lucky as me, with living skin and muscle tissue still on my face." Krista seemed to read my mind as she took a puff of her pipe.
...Come to think of it, from her appearance alone, not many people would think that Lori is a [Wither] who holds the title [Demon King of Ruin], looks like you can’t judge a book by its cover regarding these mutants.
Krista in front of me took off her right glove— and I saw a sight you'd only expect in a horror movie. The skeletal fingers proved her identity.
"In the [Mutual Aid Society], there are plenty of poor souls who'd rather hide behind masks than face the world." Belle, who was sitting nearby, suddenly spoke up.
"Hearing you say that, you seem quite familiar with the [Mutual Aid Society]?" I turned to ask.
"I used to be one of them, but I have reasons why I can't go back now." Belle looked at me meaningfully. "At least, not right now."
"Well, I respect your choice." Krista shook her head helplessly, exhaling a puff of smoke— Wait a minute, since we're all about the same age, you shouldn't be older than eighteen! Don't smoke!
—These guys are so mysterious and secretive in their speech, it's getting tiresome talking to them.
"Oh, by the way, Walson, what were the Prototype Entity for you and your companions?" Krista suddenly redirected the conversation back to me.
Prototype Entity, ah, referring to the original creatures for reincarnation, right? I'm the player [Steve], and Grace is an [Enderman]."
But...
"We're not sure actually; we haven't encountered any monsters similar to me so far." From her words, it can be inferred that both Grace and I are quite unique, so it's better to answer cautiously.
"…It's okay, we'll discover it someday. I never expected there would be new types of Prototype Entity." Krista said, seeming untroubled.
…
But on second thought, judging from Krista's level information, her combat ability is extremely strong— Are all the Western reincarnators this powerful!?
Thinking carefully, the Western nations are within the jurisdiction of the Vantinom-Bishop Branch, and the oppression and exploitation of demi-humans by the Vantinom-Bishop Branch are well known. So, these mutants wouldn't have it easy either.
The establishment of the [Mutual Aid Society] also makes sense, and it can even be inferred that Western reincarnators are very powerful. After all, they can survive and even establish an organization in such an environment.
"Now we're back to the initial question, Walson." Krista said, "Would you like to join us?"
The room fell silent for a moment, with only the snoring of the drunk Derisha.
"No, please excuse my refusal." I said, "I don't have any intention to do so."
Of course, who would casually agree to join such a suspicious group!?
Besides, an organization must have a purpose, right? Usually, when inviting someone to join, they would explain it, right? And she hasn't mentioned it from the beginning, which means the purpose must be super shady, right? Damn it, I don't want to know!
"Oh, that's a shame." Krista smiled, "If you change your mind in the future, feel free to look for us."
"If that day comes, I'll consider it." I said politely.
"It seems we'll be going our separate ways." Krista put away her pipe, glanced at Belle, then at me, "Have you decided on your next move after leaving?"
Ah, she's asking about our next destination. There's nothing to hide about that, we discussed it with Grace and the others yesterday.
We decided to accept Chuck's invitation to go to Ironburg—the capital of the Dwarven Empire. Apart from investigating the Earth Elemental Guardian and trying to find a substitute for redstone, it's also a shortcut to the Empire of Braatio, the homeland of Barella, since the Empire of Braatio is located north of Mahamatra.
"Is that so? Then I suggest you depart tomorrow morning." Krista nodded.
"Wait, morning? Why do you say that?" Belle suddenly had a strong reaction.
"With the commotion you caused in the dungeon this time, news of you and me being here has probably already spread. I guess the Dawn Hunters are already on their way." Krista shrugged, "And since news of me being here has also spread, who do you think the approaching hunters will be?"
I didn't quite understand this exchange, but Belle's face turned pale all of a sudden.
"Um— Can someone explain to me?"
"Goblin, go prepare your luggage now. We'll leave early tomorrow morning." Belle turned to leave the compartment, but I quickly grabbed her, wanting to know what was going on.
"Wait, what are the Dawn Hunters—" I was cut off before I could finish.
"They are the main reason I had to flee all the way from the West to Teigitan!"
