Chapter 451: Chapter 451: NSA Phishing, The True Purpose of the "Employer"?

5:00 PM, at the temporarily borrowed office area.

Bang——

The sound of Mona slamming on the keyboard startled everyone. Reesi put aside her questions for Luo An and turned to ask:

"Mona, what happened?"

"Damn the NSA (National Security Bureau)!"

Cursing angrily, she stood up and handed the computer to Luo An, Mona said with an irritated expression:

"Luo An, the crime website Petro logged into is very likely made by those NSA guys."

"???"

Reesi, Chenier, Winslow, and Michelle all looked puzzled, while Luo An was taken aback before quickly understanding:

"For phishing?"

"Highly likely."

Mona nodded firmly, indicating that she had just attempted to bypass the firewall to access the website backend and search for the employer’s computer IP and other information.

But Mona found that the crime website’s infrastructure pattern felt very familiar to her. Before she had time to think it over, someone began to trace her activities in reverse.

As soon as Mona accessed the website infrastructure without initiating any destructive actions, the other party didn’t use more direct methods right away, offering Mona an opportunity to breach their system.

Just as Mona was about to succeed, a powerful third party suddenly intervened, not only cutting off Mona’s breach attempts but also nearly succeeded in hacking into Mona’s computer, forcing her computer to reveal its location to them.

"That third party that just emerged is definitely the NSA!"

Mona clenched her molars, determined that she wouldn’t misrecognize them. When she had just joined the FBI in Investigation Team Five, she had been sent back several times by those NSA folks; she was very familiar with their online style.

Moreover, the structure of this crime website matched exactly with the underlying logic of some NSA-built websites Mona had previously infiltrated. She insisted she could not be mistaken—the crime website was absolutely established by the NSA.

"..."x4

After listening to Mona’s account, Chenier, Reesi, Winslow, and Michelle looked utterly confused. Luo An thoughtfully nodded his head.

The NSA, National Security Bureau, is the largest intelligence agency within the Federation Government institutions, dedicated to collecting and analyzing foreign and domestic communication information, subordinate to the Department of Defense, also known as the National Secrecy Bureau.

The department mainly monitors including radio broadcasts, communications, the Internet, especially military and diplomatic secret communications.

In the future, in the year 14, it was exposed that the National Security Bureau had implanted monitoring software into 100,000 computers worldwide, with well-known companies like Samsung, Dell and others unable to evade its grasp.

It was now the year 2006, while computers had not yet developed to the same level of prevalence as in later years, creating crime websites to attract criminals for residency and constantly monitoring them, apprehending them all at a critical moment, was a tactic the CIA had already begun using, so it was normal for the NSA to follow suit.

Some of the mythical "Deep Web" and "Dark Web" in the latter era, in fact, eighty percent of it was under surveillance, with some people hardly placing an order before they had FBI, NSA, or even CIA knocking at their door.

Reaching out and pulling the fuming Mona, Luo An seated her back into the chair and gave her a chuckle, handing her a piece of cake, indicating he would soon contact the NSA, and would definitely get "employer’s" information from them.

"But right now we need to investigate something else first."

Picking up the list of items that Petro and two others were asked to steal by the employer, Luo An distributed the paper among everyone, explaining:

"I have been thinking all along, why would that employer want Petro’s trio to steal so many things."

The list provided by Petro’s trio ran several pages long, with a rich variety and complete selection of items, it was only missing the clothes of the people in the villa.

Winslow was the first to catch on, speaking in a serious tone:

"You mean, the real target of that employer could just be one of these items on the list, or even a particular one?"

"He wrote so much just to cover up his real purpose?"

As the words fell, Reesi had a sudden realization, clapping her hands together, she continued:

"According to what Petro and the other two said, their original plan was just to knock out the people in the villa.

If everything went smoothly, once those people woke up the next day, upon realizing that one of their belongings was missing, they might panic and guess, but seeing that everyone’s belongings were gone, they would instead be reassured."

Michelle, who was next to her, also understood the logic of the matter and added:

"Moreover, with a large variety of items missing, it would cause a lot of trouble for the law enforcement authorities who come to investigate."

"Exactly."

Luo An nodded, then pointed at the sheets of paper in the hands of the agents and said:

"Ladies and gentlemen, I will contact the National Security Bureau shortly to check the identity information of that ’employer’.

Next, investigate all these items on the list, connect them with their owners, and see if any of them serve a special purpose."

At this point, Luo An paused, then looked at Mona and Michelle, and said:

"Additionally, you two should carefully inquire about the situation of the six guests outside of the Audel family, as well as the cooks, drivers, maids, and so on.

See if any two or more of them have common associations with a person or an organization."

"No problem!"

All the agents nodded in unison, quickly taking their places to start working. Luo An finished the cake on the table in a few bites and then took his cellphone and walked towards the balcony.

The National Security Bureau (NSA) is the agency in the world that hires the most mathematicians, computer scientists, and linguists independently, and it is also one of the Federation’s most secretive intelligence organizations.

Because of its mystery, it remains completely unbeknownst to other departments of the Federation Government, which is why its acronym NSA is often jokingly called "No Such Agency."

Luo An, having been with the Federation for so long, had hardly any contact with anyone in this department, with the only indirect encounter being the incident with Lydia (Chapter 48) a long time ago.

However, Luo An was not familiar with the NSA, but some people were very familiar with it, like Mr. Clement, like Elmer Team Leader from the IRS.

After all, the latter was from IRS-CI (Criminal Investigation Department of the Internal Revenue Service), having some influence wherever he went.

However, Elmer Team Leader was more concerned with monetary matters; since this case was not much related to them, Luo An went to the balcony and took out his mobile phone to first call Vireness.

During a recent vacation, Luo An had invited Vireness for a simple dinner on a weekend evening to foster relations.

Although Luo An often contacted Vireness by phone on normal days, seeing is believing, and having the opportunity to chat face-to-face was definitely better than talking over the phone.

"Good evening, boss."

The call went through quickly, Luo An stood on the balcony admiring the beautiful night view and chuckled, casually striking up a conversation with Vireness.

After chatting briefly, Luo An steered the conversation towards the case he was currently handling.

"NSA..."

After hearing Luo An’s account, Vireness Reesi, who was far away in New York, wearing a gray form-fitting thermal shirt lazily sitting on a chair, frowned in thought for a moment before quickly agreeing and hanging up.

About ten minutes later, Luo An’s phone rang again. Pressing the answer button, a serious male voice came from the phone:

"Hello, Group Leader Greenwood. I’m Kotrick, the group leader of the NSA’s External Liaison Department.

May I ask if Mona Evans is with you right now?"

Hearing the last sentence, Luo An’s eyes instantly narrowed.
