Chapter 450: Chapter 450: The Story of the Second Half of the Night the Incident Occurred

"How would I know?!"

Hearing Luo An’s question, Petro swore out loud.

Full of anger, he explained that the three of them didn’t know who the woman replaced in the villa was, as she had always been in direct contact with the employer alone.

Petro and his two companions had doubts about this, but the employer claimed that they either had to trust that the woman was not a problem or quit the mission. Desperate for money, the three exchanged glances and decided that the post-mission commission was more important.

Then Petro continued:

"That night, we followed the plan, drove around the surveillance cameras, and arrived at the perimeter of the villa.

First, the woman managed to insert a pre-prepared USB drive into the surveillance room, which allowed me to hack into the villa’s surveillance system and switch the live feeds to repeat recordings.

After succeeding, we drove closer to the southwest corner of the villa. I stayed in the car, turned on the signal jammer to prevent anyone from calling for help, while Hubert and Daryll snuck in under the wire fences and started stealing items from the list..."

But what Hubert and Daryll never expected was that although they successfully infiltrated the villa, during the theft they discovered all the people in the villa had stopped breathing.

Seeing around twenty people all dead, Hubert and Daryll were scared witless, and by looking into each other’s eyes they understood that they should give up on this task.

They didn’t take anything, quickly erased any traces of their entry into the villa, crawled back out through the wire fence to the car, pushed Petro aside, turned off the signal jammer, and swiftly drove away from the area.

After the fact, they tried to contact the employer but lost contact and cursed heartily.

However, they were still in luck, as the employer had originally planned to give Henry one hundred thousand dollars, but Petro and his companions kept half and only gave Henry fifty thousand dollars.

"..."

After Petro finished his story, Chenier frowned at Luo An, who, after a few seconds of silence, asked:

"What do you mean the employer asked you to steal some stuff? Were there a lot of target items?"

"Lots!"

Petro nodded emphatically, indicating that the employer had listed nearly a dozen items.

Among the valuable items were Pranay O’Dell’s fingerprints, photos of Pranay O’Dell’s study safe taken from different angles, a particular ivory sculpture in the upper right corner of Pranay O’Dell’s study, and some documents from the bottom of Pranay O’Dell’s office desk.

In addition to items related to Pranay O’Dell himself, there were items belonging to Pranay O’Dell’s two daughters-in-law, as well as items from six guests staying over, such as fingerprints, bracelets, necklaces, keys, rings, etc.

Altogether, a whole lot, adding up to nearly twenty items.

So that night, both Daryll and Hubert snuck into the villa with bags strapped to their chests, giving the impression of stocking up on goods.

"..."x2

At this, Chenier’s mouth twitched, and Luo An also wore a speechless expression, continuing to ask Petro a few questions before they both stood up and left the interrogation room.

In the hallway, Chenier looked over the interrogation notes she had recorded in her notebook and raised her head to ask:

"What do we do next?"

Luo An stroked his chin and pondered for a few seconds, then turned to walk toward the other two interrogation rooms:

"We continue interrogating, to see if there are any differences between what Hubert and Daryll say and what Petro said."

"No problem."

————

Three hours passed, and by four-thirty in the afternoon, Luo An and Chenier had finished interrogating Daryll and Hubert.

Their accounts were more or less the same as Petro’s, with the overarching narrative consistent – they entered the villa and found everyone dead, and then quickly fled.

However, there were some minor details that were different, such as Hubert and Daryll not actually leaving empty-handed.

They looted the cash from the corpses in the villa, as well as some high-end cosmetics that had belonged to one of Pranay O’Dell’s daughters-in-law, brand new and unused.

It was Daryll’s acquaintance’s birthday, and he planned to use the cosmetics to give the woman a birthday surprise.

Throughout the entire process, Luo An kept his "emotional perception" active, confirming after several inquiries that the three were telling the truth, which is why he asked for these small details.

But these details are currently useless because the ones who drugged and killed were not Petro and his two companions—they were merely hired thieves.

"Good news is, we’ve caught three thieves, and we know what happened in the latter part of the night of the villa tragedy."

Holding the interrogation records, Reesi swayed in her chair with a weird expression and said:

"The bad news is, we still don’t know what exactly happened in the first half of the night of the villa tragedy, who the poisoner is, and why that person would do such a thing."

"We also don’t know who the employer that placed the order with Petro’s group is."

Michelle added from the side:

"Nor can we find Henry and his mother Belinda; we have no idea where they are now."

Reesi tossed the interrogation records aside and sighed:

"Well, it sounds like the bad news just got even more plentiful.

But at least we now have a direction for our next investigation, which is to find out who this mysterious employer is."

Chenier picked up a bottle of mineral water from the table and took a sip, then looked at Mona who was frantically typing on the keyboard next to her, and asked:

"Mona, how’s the website coming along?"

Before the interrogation of Petro ended, Mona had hacked into Petro’s laptop and discovered that criminal website.

Then Mona found out that there were only two chances to log into that criminal website using a username and password.

If entered incorrectly, the account and password would be canceled on the spot, and obtaining a new account would require not only a one-month review period but also ten thousand dollars.

Ten thousand dollars is not important; what’s crucial is that one month is too long, and the Special Investigation Team seems unable to wait.

Just as Mona was hesitating whether to attempt a cyber intrusion, Luo An finished the interrogation and, through probing Petro, obtained the username and password.

Mona successfully logged into the site using this information and discovered the chat records between Petro and that employer, then started tracking down the employer’s identity.

Hearing Chenier’s question, Mona did not lift her head, her eyes fixed on the flashing letters and numbers on the computer, curtly saying:

"Give me some more time!"

"Keep it up."

Chenier nodded and picked up a piece of cake Reesi had bought from the table, sat down next to Mona, and fed it to her.

Mona kept her gaze steady, bit into the cake, and began to eat while continuing to type on the keyboard.

Reesi, who witnessed this scene, raised her eyebrows slightly, wondering if it was just her imagination that Chenier, this standoffish and quiet individual, seemed to really enjoy feeding others?

Winslow and Michelle were whispering and exchanging views on the case. Turning their heads, they saw Luo An sitting in a chair, frowning in thought with a piece of paper in his hand; Winslow stood up and walked over to Luo An, asking:

"Captain, what are you thinking about?"

While speaking, Winslow looked down at the paper in Luo An’s hand and saw it was a list of items that the employer instructed Petro’s group to steal from the villa.

Luo An pondered for a few seconds, passed the paper to Winslow, picked up his coffee and finished it in one gulp, frowning and saying:

"I’m wondering if the real target of the mastermind behind the scenes might not actually be the Audel family at all?"

"What?"

"What do you mean?"

Upon hearing this, everyone except Mona raised their heads and turned their attention to Luo An.

Bang!

Something seemed to dawn on Winslow. His eyes flickered as he was about to speak, but at that moment, Mona suddenly slammed down on the keyboard, her face full of rage as she yelled out:

"Fu-k! NSA! (National Security Bureau)"
