Kissing Hellfire: Marry Me, Evil Lord
Chapter 211: A Dance of Chase

Chapter 211: A Dance of Chase

"I do not care whether Vincent’s spell says you are telling the truth or not. I just know you cannot be telling the truth."

Lauren held the pistol tightly in her hand. Although she knew that even if she used magic with her bullet to make it powerful, it wouldn’t do significant damage to the woman, Lauren was so enraged that she wanted to do something.

She couldn’t stay calm while this impostor was dragging her mother’s name into her filth. It was a big disrespect to the dead.

"Are you planning to shoot your mother, darling?" The same endearment Lady Mildred used to call her before was so familiar in Lauren’s ears. It was the same voice that haunted her in her dreams, and she wished she had forgotten the sound of Lady Mildred’s voice so she would not have been affected by this impostor’s cheap antics.

"I said you are not my-"

"Do you still play the song I made for you?"

Lauren’s hand shook lightly while she held the pistol. No one else knew about that. She had never told anyone but Alec.

"You must be thinking, ’why would this woman know such a detail in my past?’ Am I right, Lauren?" The woman’s low voice resonated in the hall. The occasional thunder continued to roar, and it reflected the growing tension inside the castle.

"You should stop wondering and just believe me. I know every little thing about you because you are my daughter." She smiled, and Lauren pulled the trigger because of her burning emotions, but no bullet went out of the pistol. "You like playing the violin when you can’t sleep, and you don’t want your bath cold. You always prefer it warm because your body is sensitive to cold."

Lauren dropped the pistol in anger because of how useless it was. The woman was way more powerful than she imagined.

"She could have spied on you, Lauren. Don’t listen to her," Alec said and his eyes turned red as he pushed his hand forward, sending a band of blue fire to the woman’s body.

A chain of blue fire was now wrapped around the woman’s body, but she only smiled as it was nothing worth fretting about. And in a split second, she was able to free herself.

"My apologies, but it seems like your powers don’t work on me, Your Majesty," she said mockingly.

"Catch her!" Alec commanded the royal guards. Matthias and the others were quick to move, but the woman leaped in the air and moved so fast that she was up on the balcony before a second passed.

The vampire guards were fast but the woman then jumped to the huge chandelier and held onto it as she looked down to where Lauren and Alec were. The vicious smile she had convinced Lauren that she wasn’t her mother. Her mother was always gentle and genuine; she never mocked anyone or tried to trick people. She was the epitome of goodness, and with someone trying to disgrace Lady Mildred’s name, it irked Lauren to the bone.

With his vampire speed, Alec carried Lauren to the other side of the hall when the huge chandelier fell on the floor. A lot of royal guards were trying to catch the woman but with her quick moves that seemed to be as fast as light, it was almost impossible to catch her.

"She moves very fast, huh," Vincent snickered and decided to join the dance of chase and went straight to where the woman was.

The woman had not made a huge move yet, only dodging every attempt done by the royal guards. When she noticed Vincent coming forward, she smiled. Vincent, as a royal pureblooded vampire, moved as fast as she was.

"You seemed to be enjoying yourself, young man," she muttered when she saw the playful glint in Vincent’s eyes when he held her elbow for a second before she pushed him away with a kick on her chest.

The royal guards were ready to capture her from behind but she was quick to leap upward, and black smoke enveloped her body. She was beginning to use magic, so the royal guards readied their weapons—swords that were made of magic. After all, only magic could defeat magic.

Vincent smirked and pulled a small dagger from the pockets of his suit. He tossed it in the air and when it landed back in his hand, it became a sword with a red-eyed tiger on its hilt.

"What about a sword fight, madame? I’d like to see how great your swordsmanship is," Vincent challenged, his tone light as if he were only playing a child’s game.

On the sidelines, the growing frustration in Lauren’s heart was like poison to her nerves.

"What if she really is my mother?" she asked under her breath. "After knowing the root of my illness and her being a black mage, I am seeing all the possibilities. What if she came back, but a different version of her?"

"I can’t answer that," Alec replied. He held her hand and blocked her line of sight to meet her eyes. "I can’t be sure if she really is your mother or just an impostor. But there’s one thing I am sure about. She cannot be up for any good. Trust your instinct, Lauren. You know your mother better. Do you really think she could be the mother you knew?"

Lauren looked at the woman who was now fighting with Vincent. The way she spoke, the way she moved, it was all far from the mother she knew. Alec was right. She should trust her instincts. She shouldn’t allow their enemy to get into her mind just because she had her mother’s face and voice.

"She says she’s your mother and knows the cure for your illness. I can see that she is trying to manipulate us. Perhaps she wants to win the throne without tiring her resources. A clever way to win a battle, I must say."
