Kissing Hellfire: Marry Me, Evil Lord -
Chapter 212: Dangerous Swordplay
Chapter 212: Dangerous Swordplay
Vincent was smirking as he engaged in a fierce battle with the mysterious woman. Her every move was calculated, and her attacks were a mix of magic and skillful swordplay. Vincent’s years of training had prepared him for moments like this, but he could feel the weight of the fight in every fiber of his being. The clash of metal against metal echoed through the chamber, punctuated by bursts of arcane energy.
The royal guards stood at the sidelines, watching with a mixture of awe and concern. Some of them were tending to their own injuries, inflicted by the woman’s potent magic. The guards had underestimated her abilities, a mistake they wouldn’t make again.
Vincent’s sword pressed against the woman’s blade, and they locked eyes for a fleeting moment. He couldn’t help but notice the fire that burned within her gaze, a fire fueled by determination and perhaps a hint of something deeper. Something like wrath.
"You seem to have good swordsmanship, madame," Vincent quipped, his voice laced with sweat and exertion. "I heard Lady Mildred was a timid woman who did not practice the art of war."
The woman’s lips curled into a smirk as she countered Vincent’s attack with a swift maneuver. "It was true. I knew nothing about the art of war in the past, but it has been thirteen years, Lord Vincent. Do you expect me to be the same person as I was more than a decade ago?"
Vincent’s blade and the woman’s sword danced in a choreography of strikes and parries. He couldn’t deny that her skill had surpassed his expectations. Her movements were fluid and precise, and her control over magic was evident with each spell she cast.
As the battle raged on, Vincent’s analytical mind began to piece together her fighting style. He recognized her patterns, the moments when she favored magic over steel, and vice versa. He saw an opening and exploited it, his sword grazing her shoulder and tearing a small gash in her dress. The woman winced, but her expression remained resolute.
"Your magic is strong," Vincent admitted, his breath coming in ragged bursts, "but your swordsmanship is still inferior to mine. I hope my straightforwardness doesn’t offend you, madame."
The woman chuckled, a sound that was surprisingly light amidst the intensity of the fight. "Oh, I assure you, Lord Vincent, offense is the last thing on my mind right now."
The woman’s attacks grew more aggressive. She channeled her magic through her blade, creating a dazzling display of arcane energy that forced Vincent to step back for a moment. He knew he couldn’t underestimate her again. Her mastery of both magic and sword was a deadly combination.
Vincent grew more intrigued and amused as he calculated his next moves. He had to find a way to disrupt her rhythm, to exploit a weakness and turn the tide of the battle in his favor. With a sly smile, he surged forward, using a burst of speed to close the distance between them. His sword clashed against hers once more, and this time, he felt a surge of magic resonating through the steel.
The woman’s eyes widened in surprise as Vincent’s magic-infused strike pushed her back. The force of the impact sent shockwaves through the air, rattling the very foundation of the chamber. She stumbled, her balance momentarily compromised.
Seizing the opportunity, Vincent pressed his advantage. His blade moved with precision and purpose, his strikes a blur of steel and magic. The woman fought valiantly, but with each clash, Vincent could see the strain on her face, the weariness setting in.
Finally, with a powerful swing, Vincent disarmed the woman, sending her sword clattering to the ground. She staggered back, breathing heavily, her magic flickering like a dying flame.
Vincent lowered his sword, his chest heaving with exertion. The room was filled with the echo of their heavy breathing and the aftermath of their battle. The woman looked at him, a mixture of defeat and respect in her gaze.
"Very well fought, madame," Vincent said, his voice tinged with admiration. "You are no ordinary opponent."
The woman’s lips curled into a tired smile. "And you, Lord Vincent, are no ordinary swordsman."
"It would be my pleasure to fight with you again, but I don’t think there would be a second time."
Vincent pulled a chain from his pockets. When he threw it into the air, it transformed into a big chain filled with magic. It was a magic-sealing spellbound object that would obstruct a person’s magic. However, it would only be useful for a couple of hours.
The woman’s eyes followed the chain as it transformed into a formidable magical restraint. Her body remained upright, but her hands were now bound, and the energy that had once crackled around her fingertips was now subdued.
Vincent approached her cautiously, his sword held at his side in a non-threatening manner. The royal guards maintained a watchful stance at the sidelines, ready to intervene if the situation took an unexpected turn.
"This is so ungentlemanly of me, but you should understand that I am currently a general protecting the Evardin state, madame. My apologies," Vincent said with a victorious smile.
Lauren and Alec cautiously approached Vincent and the woman, the air still heavy with uncertainty. Lauren observed the imposter closely, her instincts telling her that something wasn’t quite right. The calmness radiating from the woman, even as she stood restricted by the spellbound chain, made Lauren’s suspicion grow.
Then, that smile. It was a smile that seemed to carry meaning beyond the immediate situation. Lauren’s heart quickened; she couldn’t shake the feeling that this encounter wasn’t coming to an end as easily as it seemed. As the woman’s words reached her ears, an unsettling realization settled in – this wasn’t over.
"I hope we can see each other again, darling." The woman’s voice held an eerie sweetness, and before anyone could react, she dissolved into thin air, disappearing like a fragile bubble popping. The abruptness of her disappearance left the room in stunned silence, as if the very fabric of reality had been torn.
