Chapter 992 - 992 979 You Want Me to Be a Security Guard

Chapter 992: Chapter 979: You Want Me to Be a Security Guard?! Chapter 992: Chapter 979: You Want Me to Be a Security Guard?! “Am I going to die?” asked the store manager, who had been sliced to the brink of death by Muria, as he lay on the ground looking up at Muria, a trace of sorrow flashing through his eyes. It was as if he had seen the emergence of another Ghoul butcher.

“Do you have any last words?” Muria withdrew his gaze, looking down at the middle-aged man who seemed to be caught up in some deep emotion.

“My dream is for Ghouls to coexist peacefully with humans…”

Splat! Crimson blood splattered as a head with an expression of disbelief flew high into the air before landing on the ground. He had not expected Muria to lose patience so quickly; he had only gotten out one sentence before he was slaughtered.

“Delusional!” Muria, who had lost interest after hearing just one sentence, didn’t care to listen to anything more. He lightly shook his sword to fling off all the filthy blood.

Muria had no interest in wasting any more time listening to him. Expecting a race that desired human flesh and blood to their very core to coexist with humans? That must be a joke.

Can wolves and sheep live together? Unless wolves start eating grass, which is impossible. Even if they could, they probably would not want to since wolves are born to eat meat.

Therefore, as far as humans are concerned, Ghouls must die. No human wants to coexist with a Monster that desires to bite into them, even if that Monster looks exactly like a human.

Ghouls are a Mutated species doomed to extinction. There is no special reason, just their craving for human flesh and blood is reason enough to seal their fate for extermination.

The reason Ghouls can still hide within the city is simply because the human elite want to use them to train their next generation.

If the human elite ever find a substitute, then Ghouls will have no further reason to exist.

“Hmm? Seems like there are still some here.” Muria sensed everything in the Bar, and at this moment, he detected two very faint life forces. He began walking towards the location he sensed.

“Come out!” Muria kicked open the door to a private room, then fixed his gaze on the sofa. Under the pressure of his presence, a young man and woman emerged from the couch, shivering.

“Ah! No wonder the life forces felt different, you two aren’t Ghouls!” Muria looked at the two terrified children clinging to each other, his eyes lighting up with interest.

It was obvious that these two children were not human, as they had something extra on their bodies compared to humans—a pair of small wings on their backs.

“Butler Paris!” After a brief sensing, Muria decided not to harm the two children and instead called the Douglas family Butler, “I have cleansed the Owl Bar of all Ghouls!”

“Young Master Jelos, you’ve done very well. We’ve seen everything that you just did,” responded the Butler.

“So you must also know what I’ve discovered. What should we do?” Muria asked Butler Paris.

Ghouls are just one branch of the three main categories of Mutated species. The term ‘Mutated species’ is a general term for Different Species that can disguise themselves as humans and hide among the human city.

The name ‘Mutated species’ itself reveals the origin of this part of Different Species: the vast majority are humans who have undergone mutations. Simply put, their genes have mutated, and they can no longer be considered human.

The earliest Ghouls were mutations from humans, and for those who enjoyed consuming human flesh, the government naturally showed no mercy and exterminated them completely.

However, not all Mutated species which feed on humans are the same. The vast majority are quite harmless, with no particular desire for human flesh.

These two children in front of him are a clear example. Their genes have changed, resulting in the growth of a pair of wings on their backs, which pretty much excludes them from being called human anymore.

No, although they are a Different Species, they are harmless to humans. Therefore, the government won’t exterminate them, but they are also not protected by human laws. Under such circumstances, the fate of these types of Different Species largely depends on luck.

“Dispose of them as you see fit. They are your spoils of war. You decide,” was the Butler’s reply.

“Can the Clan arrange for them?” asked Muria, knowing the lives of these two children were at his mercy—he could kill or spare them without any consequences. Different Species had no rights.

“Sorry, Young Master, but the Clan doesn’t have any suitable positions to offer them at this time,” responded the Butler.

“I understand,” said Muria with a nod, interpreting the Butler’s words to mean that the Douglas Clan had no interest in such useless trash.

Such an answer didn’t surprise Muria much. That’s just how the Great families are. All action is driven by profit, and without the prospect of a return, they will not invest.

While the Douglas Clan does support some Rice Worms, those individuals carry the blood of the Douglas family. As for others, the Clan is not interested and doesn’t do charity work.

“Alright, stop trembling, I won’t kill you. You can go,” Muria said to the two scared children, waving his hand in annoyance.

“Where can we go? Brother,” the little girl asked her brother timidly when she heard Muria was willing to let them go.

“I don’t know,” the little boy sniffed, looking somewhat lost.

“Where are your parents?” Muria asked in surprise.

“Our dad and mom abandoned us, they called us monsters, they didn’t want the two of us,” the little girl answered timidly.

“So how did you find this place?”

“I heard that someone here takes in monsters like us, so I brought my sister here,” the boy answered bravely.

“Hmm,” Muria nodded, then turned to leave. His task was completed, and it was time to go home to sleep.

However, as he reached the door, he paused, his lips twitched, then he turned his head, “Washing dishes, mopping floors, cleaning, trimming the lawn, can you do these?”

“No,” the little girl answered meekly.

“But we can learn,” the little boy quickly covered his sister’s mouth, frantically making amends: “We’re both very smart, whatever you teach us, just once, and we’ll learn it.”

“Although federal law prohibits the employment of child labor, you’re different species, not human, the law won’t protect you, so from today, you’re servants in my house. When it’s time to work, no slacking or complaining of tiredness.”

“Thank you!”

In the days that followed, life became very peaceful. After completing his assessment, from the next day onward, the Douglas family increased their resource investment in Muria, allowing him to demand more resources from them.

With a wealth of resources, the qi within Muria grew stronger, and he rapidly closed the gap in martial arts prowess with his father, particularly since Ansol’s unfortunate family situation had caused significant trouble in his martial arts training.

If it hadn’t been for the resources from Golden Dragon Mother at the beginning, Ansol probably would still be worried about how to make money, given that he was a combat-type individual ill-suited for figuring out how to earn money.

And in these peaceful days, in Muria’s house, there were two little kids, now dressed as servants, earnestly cleaning – which was not a particularly eye-catching affair.

Susanna, deeply welcoming of these two little ones, as a high-ranking Star Armor Master, did not share the common prejudice against different species with dissimilar forms.

Besides, the mutations of these two little kids honestly made them look more beautiful and didn’t instill fear, so Susanna couldn’t understand what their parents were thinking back then.

Time passed in silence, and before anyone knew, a year had gone by, and Muria, who had just started the second year of junior high, received a letter of appointment.

“Dear Mr. Jelos Douglas

In view of your excellent academics and rich combat experience, you have been accepted by the Dovalir Security Department. Please report to *** by September 30.

Dovalir Security Department”

Looking at the exceptionally concise notification letter in his hands, Muria fell into silence, then he lifted his head, looking at the beaming principal in front of him, “I reject this appointment, I’m not interested in being a security guard.”

“Eh, Student Jelos, the Dovalir Security Department is a secret agency established to protect the city from Different Species invasions; it’s not about being a security guard.”

“Oh!” Muria, indifferent upon hearing the specific details of the government department trying to recruit him, continued, “Well in that case, I refuse. Killing Different Species, protecting citizens – I can do that without joining your Security Department.”

“Alright, Student Jelos, let me be frank with you! This appointment should have been given to you next year. Joining the Security Department and fighting against Different Species is part of the extracurricular internship that all excellent students in their third year of junior high participate in at our school. You received the notification earlier because of your outstanding performance.”

“Hmm.”

“If you agree to join the Security Department, you will be our school’s model student for this year.”

“I don’t care for it,” Muria coldly refused the principal, glancing at the cheerful old man before him, “Even without joining, can you nullify my academic achievements? I’ll still be a model student.”

Seeing the unyielding Muria, the principal scratched his thinning scalp in vexation, “Can you tell me why you’re refusing to join the Security Department?”

“The name sounds bad, it’s embarrassing!”
