Chapter 60: Who Can Be Trusted?

A father was playing with his favorite son in their backyard. A simple house but filled with happiness and laughter.

"Come on dad, higher!" exclaimed the boy as they played on the swings.

His father chuckled, seeing how his son was so excited and kept laughing with delight. He kept pushing the swing to keep his son happy.

"Hold on tight, don’t fall off!" his father said.

In the midst of their fun, the father felt the presence of an Alpha nearby, even though they were in their own backyard.

When he turned around, he saw his best friend and business partner walking towards him.

"Oh Barney, here you are. What brings you here? Isn’t the Marabella meeting the day after tomorrow?"

"Hendrick... I came here to talk to you. Can we talk alone?" asked Barney as he put his hands in his pants pockets.

He then turned to a boy who immediately approached his father, Hendrick rubbed his son’s head.

"So is he your son?" the man asked again.

"Yes, he’s a Beta like his mother. For me it doesn’t matter if he is Beta or Alpha, as long as he is born healthy and can get a good education to be able to replace me in Marabella one day," he said softly.

However, there was a disgruntled look on Barney’s face when he heard this. He asked to speak to Hendrick again just the two of them. Hendrick nodded and led his friend towards the study, leaving his son playing alone.

"So what did you want to talk to me about, buddy?"

"It’s about Marabella, I don’t think Marabella needs you anymore to thrive," Barney replied with a cold stare.

This surprised Hendrick, who asked what his friend meant. He replied that Marabella only needed one leader and that was him, Barney.

"But you can’t do that! I founded Marabella for almost five years before you came and helped me. I can’t just hand Marabella over to you, Barney!"

However, Barney took out a folder of documents that contained that the official owner of Marabella was him. He erased Hendrick’s name and none of the important documents had the man’s name on them.

"How did this happen?! Why are you doing this to me, Barney! I already think of you as my brother... But--"

Barney smiled smugly as if he didn’t feel guilty at all.

"That’s not my problem, from now on you are no longer part of Marabella."

Barney stared out the window of his company building, right behind his desk in the office of the CEO of Marabella company. He proudly watched the view outside from the top of the 45-floor building.

He felt he was in his heyday with the success of Marabella products in the Zondalian country and abroad. It made him forget who should own the company in the first place.

’He was just too stupid to believe that someone else wouldn’t try to take over a company that had great potential. Thinking a good friend is someone he can trust... How naive,’ he thought with a smirk on his face.

"Too bad, I’m not as stupid as you are. Everyone is under my feet and they’ll do whatever I want."

Not long after, there was a knock on the door followed by the voice of a young man Barney knew well and was proud of. He allowed the man to enter and saw a brunette in a full suit smiling at him.

"Good morning, Mr. Barney. I came just as you wanted," he said.

"Ivan, my proud Beta, come here, son. I have something I want to discuss with you. I’m really glad you’re in this company, thanks to you everything is much better," said the CEO to his manager.

Ivan smiled when he heard the compliment. He said that he was just trying his best not to disappoint Barney who had been very kind to him.

"You’ve been like my own father, always kind to me and very considerate whenever I come to see Daren. That’s why I don’t want to disappoint you, to break the responsibility and trust you’ve placed in me, Mr. Barney," he said with a sincere smile, feeling so grateful for the life he had.

Barney laughed as he tapped Ivan on the shoulder.

"It’s not wrong that I chose you as my manager. You’re even better than everyone I know, I’m very proud to consider you as my son," he said and put his arm around the Beta man’s shoulder.

He looked so happy to be considered a son by the man he respected so much.

They then continued their discussion until it was over. Ivan nodded understanding everything Barney said to him, it made him proud because Ivan was really a smart man.

However, suddenly Ivan brought up Daren’s name which made him a little annoyed.

"But Daren is no less smart, Mr. Barney. He easily understands things around him and what someone is saying to him. It’s just that he’s too innocent for that," Ivan explained.

"Heh, what does Omega seem to be able to do besides make trouble? He’s just a troublemaker who almost ruined the Wyne Family’s good name. If it wasn’t for Viona, I would have already disposed of that kid and crossed him off this family’s list," he snapped irritably while tightly gripping a pen.

He who witnessed that could only sigh as he saw his best friend’s father disrespect his own son.

"Very well then, Mr. Barney. I actually wanted to suggest an Alpha for Daren. He’s one of my acquaintances, he also owns a small company. Perhaps if you allow, I’ll bring them together," he said.

The middle-aged man paused for a moment then allowed Ivan to do so, thinking that if it all worked out, Daren could get out of the Wyne Family and he wouldn’t have to worry about Daren ruining their family’s good name.

"Bring them together, if necessary let that Alpha do as he pleases. I don’t care about him anymore, as long as he gets out of the Wyne Family quickly!"

Hearing that, Ivan nodded. Barney went so far as to allow the Alpha to be introduced to Daren to do anything, including bonding and mating.

It didn’t matter if Daren wanted to or not, but he was sure that if Ivan introduced him, Daren would.

"Yes, Mr. Barney."
