Kaidan Game Train: Abide Rule or Die!
Chapter 844: The Young Xu Huo

Chapter 844: Chapter 844: The Young Xu Huo

"Why?" Xu Huo overlapped with his younger self and asked this question.

"People’s thoughts are the most dangerous thing. A single thought can at least affect a person’s behavior for a long time, and in special cases, this can extend to a lifetime," the doctor said in a calm voice, neither as gentle as when faced with coquetry nor as indifferent as when declaring a failure. He was merely stating a fact.

"To show weakness to achieve one’s goal is feasible, but senseless concern is unnecessary."

"Especially pity right in front of you."

This wasn’t a warning from an adult or an elder to a child, but rather a conversation built on equal footing.

"Why is it unnecessary?" Xu Huo said, "I think you need my concern."

"The weak need the concern of others," the doctor said, his tone becoming gentle again, "between you and me, who do you think is the weaker one?"

Xu Huo remained silent for a while before reluctantly admitting, "Me."

"So your concern for me is false and can neither change my situation nor solve the root of the problem," the doctor continued, "but this wound also has its meaning."

"To show weakness?" Xu Huo asked.

The doctor smiled, "I give you a failing grade."

After a while, Xu Huo said, "I saw Xiao Liang yesterday; he didn’t show concern for you, and you scolded him."

"His situation is different from yours," the doctor said, "He’s too naughty and doesn’t listen, so he needs to be disciplined. He still hasn’t learned to control himself, which is where he is far behind you."

Xu Huo didn’t speak again, and the doctor took out a syringe from his bag, "Today you need an extra shot."

The young child accepted this reality calmly, and then a sharp pain hit him as he clutched his head and darkness fell before his eyes. The scene changed, and he found himself in a closed room with several other children.

The children sat silently on fixed chairs, dressed in hospital gowns, and nobody moved or spoke. Xu Huo couldn’t see their faces, but from their body shapes, he recognized one of them as Chang Bei.

As an adult, Xu Huo barely remembered this part of his past. He only knew that there were a few children being treated in the hospital with him, and he didn’t interact with them much. He recognized Chang Bei because he had looked into Chang Bei’s background; he had injured his hand before admission and had a hook-shaped scar on the back of his hand.

"What did the doctor tell you?" a child nearby walked over, holding a lollipop, "Tell me, and you can have the candy."

"The doctor said you’re disobedient," Xu Huo blurted out uncontrollably.

The child laughed in a strange tone and reached out to press the lollipop stick into Xu Huo’s eye. Xu Huo dodged, but he was tripped and fell to the ground. On instinct, he rolled on his knees and turned back only to see the child pull a spoon out of his pants, its handle sharpened to a lethal point.

Xu Huo got up, trying to run, but the other two children had already grabbed his arms and pinned him down.

Chang Bei sneaked toward the door, while another child who had not participated remained sitting in his original spot.

Xu Huo touched the small pebble in his pocket and threw it hard against the door.

"This room is furthest from the stairs; even if a nurse heard the noise and ran over, it would take five seconds. Before they arrive, they have to determine the cause, location, and extent of the incident, which would delay at least fifteen seconds or more," the questioning child said as he approached Xu Huo, "In that time, blinding you wouldn’t be a problem."

"When you see the doctor, tell him I did it."

Xu Huo’s struggle gradually ceased, and he said, "The doctor doesn’t like you. He says you’re not as smart as me and still haven’t learned to control yourself. You’re like a pig."

"Chang Bei and I saw you stealing medicine. You’re really stupid."

The child opposite trembled for a moment in rage but then calmed down, "It’s okay without you."

"You’re like a pig because you are one, not because I make you look like one," Xu Huo stated bluntly.

The child, enraged by his words, grabbed the spoon and lunged to stab Xu Huo’s eye, but Xu Huo stared wide-eyed as the spoon stopped an inch away from his eye, unable to pierce regardless of how hard the other pushed.

Then the doctor opened the door and came in; the children immediately dropped the spoon, let go of Xu Huo, and both Chang Bei and the indifferent child stood straight.

"What are you smiling about?" the doctor asked Xu Huo.

"You and Xiao Liang are both like pigs," Xu Huo replied with a cheeky smile.

The scene gradually blurred, but he could sense the doctor was pleased after hearing it.

The young Xu Huo might not have understood, but the Xu Huo of the present knew why the doctor was so happy.

He had provoked Xiao Liang; if the doctor’s training were successful, Xiao Liang might really stop. If he didn’t stop, it wouldn’t matter—the doctor would surely intercede.

He had been cunning, assuming that like Xiao Liang, the doctor’s behavior was predictable.

The doctor was pleased because he understood that Xu Huo clearly knew his own worth and that’s why he had been cunning.

At least in that environment, Xiao Liang was not worth the doctor sacrificing one of Xu Huo’s eyes.

After the vision sank into darkness, Xu Huo opened his eyes after a while; he was still sitting at his desk, reading, and had not fallen asleep.

He pushed aside the documents in front of him and went to the balcony, saying to the person next door, "Better than the Dream-Fulfilling Elixir, pretty effective. Next time there’s something like this, just come and tell me, no need to snoop around secretly."

He had fallen into the trap just by sitting there; apart from Bai Kou next door, Xu Huo couldn’t think of anyone else. Both had undergone Spirit Evolution, and he was familiar with the technique.

Yet Bai Kou didn’t show the slightest guilt and didn’t tease him either. Instead, she looked at him with a strange expression, "I didn’t realize your experiences were quite rich."

Spiritual induction could only reveal the induced person’s actions; what the induced person actually saw could not be peeked by outsiders unless it was in an environment like the Seventeenth Hospital. In reality, the products of imagination could not be projected for others to see.

"My memory has been altered," Xu Huo joked for once, "and I’ve been on quite a bit of Potion."

Bai Kou chuckled, "I can see that. But if what you saw were real people and events, then it’s likely not a delusion, but your memories unraveling."

"Your memories were sealed in childhood, right? Now that you’ve become a player and your brain has evolved again, the old seals no longer work."

"Perhaps your quick Super Evolution is also related to the potions."

Xu Huo had considered this issue and then turned to ask, "By what means can one alter a person’s memory and erase any record from reality at once?"
