Chapter 845: A Will
Chapter 845: Chapter 845: A Will
"There are quite a few methods," said Bai Kou. "Surgery can be used in certain technologically advanced districts as well, but most are direct removals. Sealing memories, though, is more like something a player would do."
"Erasing reality records isn’t hard either. Some props can do that."
"That’s easy to say..." She eyed Xu Huo seriously, "but it’s actually quite troublesome to do. Since they consider you to have considerable value, it must be for some purpose. There’s no reason to keep sealing your memories."
"It’s possible they don’t find it worthwhile," Xu Huo said. The other party had already come looking for him.
Bai Kou waved it off with indifference, "The chances are that whoever does this sort of thing isn’t exactly a good person. Whatever they want you to do is probably no good, so maintaining the status quo is pretty good."
"How could that be?" Xu Huo said with a smile. "At the very least, I want my own memories to be completely clear."
Bai Kou looked at him with a smile that wasn’t quite a smile, "A boon that many would beg for, and you don’t want it."
"There are many things beyond a person’s control, but at the very least, one must control oneself," Xu Huo said meaningfully.
"Nothing more to say when we’re not on the same page," Bai Kou huffed coldly and turned to enter the room.
Xu Huo returned to the bedroom, pleased.
The next morning, he took the initiative to serve breakfast and knocked on Bai Kou’s door to formally ask her about the methods of Super Evolution.
Bai Kou’s old saying was to write a will first.
Xu Huo invited Mr. Dong to witness as he wrote his will, stating that if he should meet an unfortunate accident one day, Rose Castle and everything he inherited from He Pu would belong to her, even his own inheritance could be passed on to her.
Mr. Dong’s gaze was cold, and Bai Kou frowned, "Who wants your junk? I just want He Pu’s stuff."
"It’s compensation," Xu Huo said amiably. "There’s been wear and tear during my stay in the castle too."
Bai Kou still wasn’t pleased, "Are you planning for me to raise your child?"
"There’s no need for that," Xu Huo said. "I can still live for several more decades. By then, Xiao Yuan will have grown up, and I’ll leave her a sum of money to establish herself. As for Li Chun, it’s up to her willing. I’d be glad if she wanted to stay here."
Bai Kou laughed at his overestimation, "The last player who bragged about living to an old age in front of me died in an instance on the second day."
"Wouldn’t it be better for you if I died?" Xu Huo asked as he passed the will for her to sign.
With no additional conditions, Bai Kou browsed through it quickly and signed it readily, then held it up to Mr. Dong, "I might become the owner here next month. If you don’t want to be kicked out, you’d better work honestly."
Mr. Dong’s eyes were fixed on the scenery outside, like a real mute.
Bai Kou didn’t care. She took one copy of the three-part will and said in a good mood, "Now we can start."
She waved her hand to dismiss Mr. Dong.
Before leaving, Mr. Dong offered his encouragement to Xu Huo, "Sir, you must study hard."
Once he had closed the door, Bai Kou scoffed, "Afraid you’ll die too soon, since as a prop, he is really dutiful."
Xu Huo didn’t intervene, and after a moment, Bai Kou turned back to the main topic, "Since you can externalize the Spiritual World, you should be able to sense nearby space across barriers, right?"
Xu Huo had already sensed this before he learned to externalize the Spiritual World. Normally, even players with keen senses could hardly detect anything in advance when someone else was covering their tracks, and it usually required props, but after Spirit Evolution, this was no longer necessary. Even without hearing any sound, he could sense that there were people outside and discern their general state.
However, this sensation was not detailed, and it was at best an object seen as a whole. For example, a person could not be discerned through walls, but their general movements, acceleration or deceleration, were quite clear, like a ball moving in all directions.
"Spirit Evolution is a foundation. It’s better to sense a broader space to understand outward Super Evolution. To control objects is actually a kind of mastery over space," Bai Kou said as she took out a mechanical glove. "Give me your hand."
Xu Huo placed his hand in as she instructed, but she didn’t let go. Instead, she placed her hand in the depression on the back of the glove, "First, feel the movements of space."
After a few seconds, she asked, "What do you feel?"
"My senses are amplified," Xu Huo said. "You just touched the vase behind me."
Bai Kou raised an eyebrow, "Not bad. This glove can enhance the power I release, ensuring that it expands to a level that you can perceive. It’s similar to the strong kinetic energy you felt before, only this time, I am touching space."
"You have a concept of space. Understanding this control isn’t hard. You can imagine space as something more refined, just as you can feel the airflow when your fingers sweep through the air. After Super Evolution, people are able to sense even smaller things, kind of like superpowers."
"But this isn’t a superpower. It’s rather that, after evolution, humans reach the same frequency as space-time at a certain level, to put it simply, you share something in common with certain ’immaterial’ things in space-time as we see it."
"Be attentive, be patient. Once you cross the threshold, the ability will come naturally, and the Super Evolution will be complete."
Her explanation was very abstract, essentially emphasizing that feeling and perception were everything, and those who understood it naturally did.
Xu Huo tried to touch the force she had stirred. He didn’t feel any contact with his body, nor did he affect the force.
"Try again," Bai Kou said.
He tried several times with the same result.
Seeing Bai Kou becoming a bit angry, he asked, "How did you start Super Evolution?"
"He Pu took me to watch a duel between Super Players," Bai Kou explained. "It started after that, but I wasn’t injured by the Space-Time Power. It’s like enlightenment; some people gradually reach understanding over years, while others have a sudden epiphany. It really depends on talent."
"You are a smart one. The glove is yours; practice more."
With that, she briskly pulled away and stood up to leave.
She might have left briskly, but for Xu Huo, the air just became air again.
The flying vehicle had left downstairs when Mr. Dong came to the study and demonstrated "Static Retrospection" a few times in front of him.
Xu Huo watched the teacup shatter to the floor and then reassemble along its original trajectory into a complete, albeit cracked, teacup a few times before saying, "Don’t worry, Rose Castle won’t end up in Bai Kou’s hands."
Even though he didn’t speak, Mr. Dong still showed great distrust, and he quickly returned to the study after leaving, placing an hourglass on the table and breaking a teacup to show him.
The sand in the hourglass began to flow down, but when the top emptied, the sand from below automatically flowed back without flipping the hourglass, like a video being played in reverse. Meanwhile, a glint of light refracted through the colored sand, covering the cup. As the hourglass reversed its flow, the cup too restored along its path, just that it still retained its cracks.
